  • High Quality
Had to fiddle a bit on first assembly. Was much more proficient on the second attempt. Best practice is to insert the tensioning rods into the softbox first, then into the hub. Using a clock face as an analogy, your first rod will insert at the 12 o'clock position. Insert the second rod directly across at the 6 o'clock position. Next insert rods at the intermediate positions, 3 and 9 o'clock. This establishes the basic shape of the softbox and makes it much easier to fill in the remaining rods. I went crazy on first assembly trying to align the rods to the seams in the fabric. However I found this unnecessary and misalignment had no effect on functionality. Disassembly is the reverse order of assembly. To disconnect the tensioning rods I found it best to release pressure by flattening the rod with one hand, grasping it right where it enters the hub (and hold the hub firmly with the other hand). Then just a gentle tug and the rods slid right out of the hub. As with assembly, the first time was awkward. It gets much easier and faster with practice. The shallow design allows the softbox to easily fit through doorways so you could leave it assembled to save time on setup when on location. Everything looks pretty durable. Hard to imagine the rods breaking. Reasonable care should result in long term usage. This thing would last indefinitely in a studio environment where it would not require constant assembly-disassembly. Time will tell for my more portable needs. Either way, you can't go wrong for the price. Functionally superb with wonderful light output, even with an inexpensive speedlite. An absolute game-changer if you are upgrading from a bare flash. ... show more

  • Cool Product for the Money; Should Ship with Instructions
For something so cheap you'd think that it came with instructions for the non-initiated. It's user error, obviously, but since there are no sleeves, I couldn't for the life of me understand how the poles were supposed to be connected to the softbox. The little sleeves at the ends are so tight that I inspected them several times and concluded that they were just random pieces of velcro that I couldn't use. Lo and behold, looking at the picture on the product page, I saw that they were, in fact, connected there. From there, it was a battle to get them inserted, because of the tight fit and just because of the nature of the design. I'm using it now with two of the poles not inserted (at opposite ends) and it's functioning fine as is. Not sure if it'll just snap at any minute, but I'll definitely be redoing it soon. As a softbox, it's great for the money. My flash is diffused nicely and the coverage is perfect for my uses. Just wish it came with instructions so I could assemble it in a precise, recommended way. If you know how this works (because you're not a nub without common sense like me) you'll be perfectly happy with your purchase. I'm knocking off one star because of said grievance. It has nothing to do with the end result, but it is definitely part of the user experience of the target audience. The flaw falls under the product as it is manufactured/packaged/sent, not the seller, so that is my reasoning. I'm not going to knock off more even though my feelings at the time felt pretty one-star-ish. UPDATE: I seemed to have calmed down a bit since the first review so I just wanted to update this since I've started using it again. The installation still needs instructions, but as a product, this is just fine for the price. They seemed to have added support on the description so I'll be changing my review from 4 to 5 so as to keep the rating relevant and fair for new customers. I would, however, love to see them selling spare parts. $50 isn't much in the world of photo and video, but wasting an entire softbox because I lost a layer of diffusion is just not something that should be necessary (and it certainly isn't economically or ecologically friendly). I tried contacting the manufacturer but I received no answer thus far. I will be trying to cut some fabric and pasting velcro strips to it to salvage this without replacing it. After browsing Amazon's current selection, I'd still say this is a great offer for the money. It isn't beat out outright until you get to double the price where there are offerings worth quadruple the price. That said, if I don't receive an answer and my DIY solution doesn't work, I'll be replacing it with said $100-$120 steals, but this one still stands as just right for the price point, and it's a great, competitive price point to buy at. ... show more

  • Great Quality Build and Low Profile for tight spaces.
This is another great product from Godox. It comes with nice packaging for transportation. The quality of the build is high end. The material and diffuser is very good quality. The Diffusers appear neutral and thick which is great for creating an even diffused natural looking light. The speed ring is solid metal and well built. I see this diffuser lasting for many years. The biggest benefit of this specific model though was the shallow profile which is great for getting into tight spaces. For example a close up video conference in a small office room. with a compact light you can get a profile of just 22" total horizontal diameter. The only critiques I would give is the instructions don't explain how to install the outer box cover. As far as (downsides) the setup and breakdown are not going to be as quick as the more expensive hinged quick setup model.. but there is a fair price and convenience trade off, and this is the traditionally stake system many of us are familiar with. ... show more

  • Great softbox that's easy to setup and break down!
Great softbox! Much bigger than I anticipated but it works great for my flash setup. When I initially set this up, I had to use a flat head screw driver to open the velcro-type ends that the steel bones go into. Other than that, I had this setup in under 5 minutes without an assistant which makes this a great choice for my travel portrait photography. ... show more

  • Difficult to put together but a great soft box
Holy cow it’s a doozy to put together. Once you do finally get it together there is no chance I am breaking it down! So i just travel with it fully assembled. For the price though, it’s a great soft box.

  • Windy, no problem.
I do hate that its a pain to tear down, so I just don't, BUT if you are one who breaks a lot of softboxes from a 5mph gust of wind...then this is YOUR answer. I've blown it over a few times and the wires are solid.

  • Works Flawlessly
First time using and purchasing a soft box. produced some great shots with it and recommend it. Size is great for products or portraits. Paired with a S-type Bowens Mount for my speed light.
