Description

The Godox UL-Box Octa-90 is Godox's first portable Bowens Mount softbox. The quick-release umbrella mechanism lives up to expectations-setup and breakdown are fast and intuitive, saving valuable time both in studio and on location. It comes with four accessories to effectively soften light output. Anywhere that a large, uniform light source is called for, the Godox Octa90 softbox is a great candidate. The 35” diameter is typically great enough to use it as a key light for even full-length portraits. The light produced is clean, soft, and wraps beautifully around subjects. Diffusers eliminate hotspots, and the octagonal shape gives pleasing catchlights and smooth falloff in portraits or product shots. Bowens mount fits securely, and the softbox remains stable when paired with a range of lights. Customizing the product’s performance is easy, given the ability to choose to use one diffuser or both, use or not use the reflector dish and, of course, add the supplied grid or not. Reach through a zippered opening on the side of the assembled Octa-150 softbox and reach in to press one button, instantly collapsing the softbox. When you need it again, one smooth movement restores it all to working order again. That light weight contributes to the excellent portability this octabox offers, how quickly and easily this good-sized softbox opens and collapses again for storage or transporting. The materials themselves are a good blend of durability and light weight, without compromising performance. Great for small spaces.

I work in a micro-studio. This tiny lil softbox is great for self-portraits, product photos, still life. It’s also dandy outdoors, since it’s a smaller sail for the wind to catch. You still need sandbags on your light stand, though. And, since it’s so tiny, it will need to be within 2 ft/60cm of your subject for full effectiveness as a “large & soft” light source. Shadows start intensifying at about 4ft from subject. Easy to use. There’s no real assembly. If you’ve used a softbox with double diffusion, you know what to expect. ... show more

Excellent Soft Light for Family Shoots (Adapter Required for ML100Bi)

Great soft, even light — just note the adapter requirement if using ML100Bi. I used this softbox for a 9-person family shoot and it did a great job producing even, flattering light across the whole group. Setup is straightforward, build quality feels solid, and the diffusion is excellent for portraits. One thing to be aware of: I was told by Rufus that it would work with the Godox ML100Bi, but once it arrived I found that it does require the Godox ML-GB Bowens Adapter to actually mount to that light. Not a big issue, just something to plan for. Fortunately, I had ordered early enough that I was able to get the adapter in time before the shoot. Once paired with the adapter, everything worked perfectly. Overall, very happy with the light quality and coverage — a great option for family and group photography as long as you account for the adapter. Test shot with Nikon z6ii and Nikkor 28mm and sable German Shepherd that needs light to capture her coat properly ... show more

Great softbox, I use it with a black posterboard for rimlit portraits. It's really big so you need the space and a strong tripod to support it. It's taller than some people I've photographed.

I ordered the 35" Octa-90 version shown in the listing and paid for that model, but I received a 90x60 rectangular softbox instead :( The softbox itself appears to be a genuine Godox product and works well, but it is not the item I selected or paid for.
