Description

An ACDelco GM Original Equipment Audio Amplifier is part of the audio system, and is a GM-recommended replacement for your vehicle’s original component. The purpose of the amplifier is to increase the power of a voltage or current signal. The output signal of an audio amplifier may consist of the same frequencies as the input signal or it may consist of only a portion of the frequencies, as in the case of a subwoofer or midrange speaker. The audio amplifier amplifies the signal and sends it to the appropriate speakers. Each of the audio output channel circuits (+ and ?) at the audio amplifier have a DC bias voltage that is approximately one half of the battery voltage. The audio being played on the system is produced by a varying AC voltage that is centered around the DC bias voltage on the same circuit. The AC voltage is what causes the speaker cone to move and produce sound. Both the DC bias voltage and the AC voltage signals are needed for the audio system to properly produce sound. These original equipment audio amplifiers have been manufactured to fit your GM vehicle, providing the same performance, durability, and service life you expect from General Motors.

  • Amp for Bose sound system, works great, a pain to install.
2008 Acadia. My sounds cut out a few times before I finally bough this amp to fix it. When the sounds went out it was ALL the sounds. No radio, no turn signals, no door beepers, nothing. Sometimes it would just stop, sometimes there was a loud pop then it would stop, sometimes (and this was my favorite!) it would emit this super loud annoying thumping noise like a helicopter for about 3 minutes (even after the car was shut off) and then die. Fun times. This was such a pain to install. it took about 3 hours. My husband put the Acadia on the lift and was able to stand to do it. He removed the emergency brake and that helped to get at the amp. It is located on the drivers side under the dash about as close to the firewall as you can get. If you are not a handy person I would recommend having someone else do it for you. He was able to get all the bolts back in, other have reported only getting two back in. ... show more

  • Works
Turn car off It’s a tight fit you will need size 7mm socket preferably 1/4 drive remover lower dash below steering wheel remove obd2 port and hood latch to the side . You can reach the front 7mm head screw easily and the upper back one have to bend your arm in there . Once loose you may have to unscrew by hand . The unscrew the bottle one while pulling the amp Towards the door to put pressure on the screws to get it out enough to unscrew by hand once loose. Take a picture of the color connectors on the module next to the amp and un plug the 4 from front to back and move the wires out of the way . Pull down on amp and use left arm to push the tabs in one connector at a time . Then put the connectors back into new amp and plug the connectors back in the module . Turn car on make sure it works then turn car off and proceede. Put front screw in first then top back tighten down and then the bottom one. Put obd 2 port back 2 bolts , hood latch and then both lower panels and your good to go. ... show more

  • “Freakin NIGHTMARE to remove and especially RE-INSTALL”
I’m a turbine jet mechanic and spent the better part of 8 hours to find out that this amp is near impossible to re-install. I have all the right tools, knowledge and determination, HOWEVER , be advised....unless you don’t mind ending up with multiple cuts and bruises doing this, it just isn’t worth it. I don’t blame the supplier of the amp, but rather GM in placing it in a nearly impossible location to access. On my second day after finally getting the old amp out, I found out that GM in all there infinite wisdom, only have about one inch slack “at the inside firewall” tucked way up above the steering column, of 3 large wiring harness plugs. IMPOSSIBLE to get the unit back up in there along with both hands and fingers and manipulate the male portion of the plugs to mate with the female sockets. There is just no room! I have every panel off, the electronic control unit removed along with all 8 of their wiring harnesses, and unless you have hands the size of a munchkin, “it ain’t gonna make it”! Tomorrow I am taking it to a car stereo installation company and just “payin” somebody to reinstall this. I blame the GE design engineers big time for thinking this application up. Could have been better under a passenger seat floor with a cover. Do yourself a huge favor......find a small stereo dealer somewhere to get the job done,. Total waste of time, energy and skin! I am amazed to read a few of the other comments from posters saying it went in “real easy”. I don’t believe them. I can’t comment on the usability of the product, because so far I haven’t powered it up yet. As far as the ordering and delivery, it was Amazon Prime and I received it the very next day. Great! ... show more

  • Buy this amp, then hire someone to replace it!
This item was purchased because there was no sound coming from any of my speakers including the signal light 'blinker' noise and door 'ding' noise in my 2008 GMC Acadia SLT2. I was able to determine that the problem was the amp by plugging in headphones to the rear headphones jack and turning up the radio. I was able to hear the radio and adjust the volume from the rear controls. Therefore it HAD to be the amp. I have larger hands with chubby sausage fingers and 70 year old flexibility, so getting the old amp out and installing the new one was a total nightmare!!! The amp is located way up under the dash on the drivers side above or in front of the emergency brake bracket. After removing the plastic piece covering all your under-dash vital components, you will see what I mean. It's mounted to a vertical brace perpendicular to the firewall with literally zero room to fit a normal adult sized hand, wrist or arm up in there to operate a wrench or ratchet (I tried and no less than 4 knuckles were bleeding after the first screw). I found than an odd combination of 1/4" drive socket, ratchet extensions and u-joints were needed to reach all the screws. Removing the front screw was easy, but the rear screws were horrible. When you get back there, you'll understand. It's hard to describe. Once removing those screws, removing the wiring harness was also a pain, but easier than screw removal. Then getting the amp out of it's home is equally frustrating. Once the old one was out, installing the new one was the same nightmare, but only done in reverse. The only way to make this install easier would be to pay someone else to do it... or become a 3rd grade contortionist mechanic with the smallest (but very strong) human hands of all time. The good news is that once the amp was replaced, all speakers worked once again. Good Luck!! ... show more
