    • Genuine OEM Part...genuine Chevy installation nightmare!!
4 Stars due to packaging. First unit arrived with multiple holes in the side of the box. Hardly any protection for the alternator. Upon closer inspection, I found that the protective plastic ring around one of the electrical connections was broken off (found it at the bottom of the box). Had to return that unit and order a new one. Second alternator came unbroken. Installation is a royal pain in the rear, but that's not the parts problem. I'm as shade-tree mechanic as they come and I did it successfully. I came at it from the top (they say that you can remove it via the right tire well, but I think that must be for non-AWD models). It takes some playing around with the geometry, but it will eventually work. I would HIGHLY suggest wrapping bungee or rope around the unit and having a second person keep tension while you remove the posts and bring it out of the engine. New unit has worked fine for a month now. Should be an easy fix, but Chevy can't allow that!!!! ... show more

The unit I received is a US-Made Denso alternator. The original alternator's decoupler pulley failed and was making a grinding noise when the engine would decelerate (even though the alternator was still providing charging voltage). This job took me about two (2) hours on a 2009 GMC Acadia. It is easiest to remove the right side tire and front wheel splash guard to gain access to the alternator (see attached picture). ... show more

I would imagine it would be a great item if it weren't for the poor packaging. Just a thin piece of paper so the alternator was thrown all around. Don't buy unless you want to risk it showing up damaged. It was a genuine Alternator though.

Installed in a 2012 Chevy Traverse. Takes about 2 hours, first time doing this job. Old alternator can be removed by passenger side fender, remove tire and internal fender guard. You will need to play a little Tetris but it comes out, no need to remove coolant reservoir or power steering cables like in some YouTube videos that removed from the top of engine. ... show more

    • Be careful of the rusty nut -- it could strip on you
Works great on my Acadia! I am not giving 5 stars, because the item arrived with no hardware -- you need to use your old rusty bits to reassemble. The old nut which holds the power wire in place, is not a perfect match for the threads on the new alternator. When I reinstalled it, the nut "felt" tight to me, but did not properly seat, causing intermittent charging. After troubleshooting, I finally got it fully tight. This caused a lot of frustration, and I almost returned the unit before discovering the issue. Fifteen cents of fresh hardware would have saved me a lot of trouble.... ... show more
