  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Glion vs the Bird/Lime rentals
I was riding the Bird/Lime scooters pretty regularly, but had a such a hard time finding one that I wanted to just get my own and stop worrying about it. Like a lot of people probably are, I was stuck between the ones rentals use - primarily Xiomi Mi and the Ninebot - and Glion, which I hadn't heard of but saw a lot of really great reviews. The glowing reviews and customer service sold me on Glion, so I'll cover my experience with this scooter vs the rentals you've probably tried. PROS: 1 - Portability. It's surprising how big of a difference it makes to be able to fold down the handle bars and stand it up vertically. It takes up very little space, an easily fits between your legs on the bus, or under the table at a restaurant. If you live in a city where scooters are a highly controversial topic, I recommend getting the cover for your own peace of mind. Half the people in Denver vehemently hate escooters so I was scared to take it inside places lol, but with the cover most people assume it's luggage or an instrument. 2 - Customer service. Glion bends over backwards for their customers. My first scooter had an issue with randomly turning off when going to brake, which resulted in an accident. They were quick to send me a complete replacement, and didn't even wait to get the original back first. I was only expecting a repair and was fully prepared to be scooterless for awhile, so this blew me away. If you have any problems, you can count on them to take care of it for you. 3 - Picks up speed quickly! It does cap out at 15 mph, but man does it shoot you to speed fast! Getting on a Bird after this feels like it takes forever to get moving lol. 4 - It gets details right that other scooters cut corners on. Xiomi's and Ninebots can barely stand up on the little twigs they've got for a kickstand. Glion's kickstand is thick and sturdy - I've never had to worry about it toppling over. The bells on the rentals are almost always busted and just rattle along as you ride. This bell is sturdy and rings loud and clear, even after I crashed it. (Denver keeps trying to force escooters on sidewalks, so this bell gets a lot of use!) 5 - Sturdy. My first scooter ended up hitting a car going by when I couldn't stop. I was sure that it would be totalled. Uh. I think I was damaged more than the dang scooter lol. The light shattered and there were some scrapes to the bell and power indicator, but otherwise it was fine. Very impressed! 6 - Twist throttle. I really didn't think I wanted this at first, but it turned out to be one of my favorite things about it. My thumbs never get tired, because I'm never holding down a trigger. I just twist and hold the grip normally. MEH: 1 - Not as many gizmos as Ninebot/Xiomi. No app, no audible alarm, no fancy board lights, no useless statistics. The battery meter is only accurate when the scooter is stopped. This stuff would be nice, but I don't really care one way or another. This is a simple commuter scooter and that's what I use it for. 2 - I wanted it to go faster until I crashed the thing and couldn't lift my arm for a week. I'm fine with the speed now lol. Wear your helmets! CONS: 1 - There isn't much suspension and it uses airless tires, so your ride will be rough and kind of rattly. You get used to it, and I've found it takes bumps a little better if you bend your knees and tilted the scooter to the side a bit. Still, hopping on a Xiomi Mi after using this for awhile feels like riding in a luxury sedan for the first time lol. They're much smoother. 2 - Difficult to balance compared to other scooters. I can easily perform hand signals on Xiomi's, but I wobble out of control trying to do the same on this. I don't know if it's because the handles are longer, or...? Maybe I'll get used to it. This is something I'd really like to see improved in future models - either better balance, or signal lights. (The dolly is also really wobbly, which I guess you can fix by widening them at the risk of scraping them when turning - I just push it in front of me and that eliminates most of the problem) 3 - Electric brake. I hate it, and this is the only reason I can't give this scooter 5-stars as much as I want to. It will stop you quickly, but it's difficult to graduate smoothly. And if your scooter malfunctions, as my first did, you could end up unable to stop when you really need to. They've done a lot to make sure that never happens, but I'd really just prefer a regular brake for my own peace of mind. OVERALL, this is the best scooter if you're looking to get around the city and portability is a big factor for you. The Xiomi Mi is a better experience - it offers a smoother ride, is easier to balance one handed, but does so with the caveat that you'll need to keep your tires aired up and isn't as portable. The Ninebot has cool flashy gadgets I guess, but they fall apart and good luck getting even a fraction of the customer service Glion provides when things go wrong. Thanks to Glion for making it right with the replacement scooter, and making a great commuter focused product. I look forward to seeing what future models have in store! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING Design! Quality Build
As someone who uses this for commuting everyday it is perfect! Especially with the option to fold it up and dolly it around as well as buying the additional cover really makes this product more convenient than the basic design of other scooters. The honeycomb tires on both front and back tires, in my opinion, offer a very smooth ride in comparison to my old electric scooter with a front pneumatic tire and back solid tire. The roads and sidewalks in my area are FAR from perfectly smooth and this scooter takes the worry out of getting a flat which actually is why I was in the market for a new scooter since finding parts to fix my scooter seemed impossible — A quick look at the Glion website and you’ll find they have both an option to send in for repairs AND order parts. Another plus is I don’t even notice it slow down on steep hills. A huge plus for me was being able to put a beefy U-lock and/or chain lock connected through the front tire. Most scooters don’t have a reliable spot for a sturdy lock like bikes do. It’s quick to fold up and down and the dolly makes navigating indoors so much easier for stopping in stores quickly. If you want it less apparent that you have a scooter then the cover also works great to make it look like luggage or an instrument — which honestly it takes up less space than either. I do wish it was a bit lighter. My previous scooter was 24 lbs and this is about 28lb. However, the dolly feature FAR outweighs the need for it to be lighter as a commuter, I’m really only briefly lifting it onto buses, trains, or into a car trunk. If you lift it by the dolly handle though make sure you have it locked into the shorter segment of the handle. This is an insanely well thought out dolly design and really stands out among the sea of other scooters that simply are faster or lighter. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Break will not work while scooter is powered off.
While the ability to transport it like a suitcase when not in use is certainly a plus, I was slightly disappointed to discover that the brakes require battery power to function. During a test walk with the scooter by my side down a hill, I found myself unable to regulate its speed as it rolled down the incline without the scooter being turned on. This was a minor inconvenience for me personally. Additionally, I noticed that the scooter has a tendency to jerk forward when attempting to speed up, rather than gradually accelerating like some other models. This same issue also applies to the brakes. For my personal preference, I would much rather have a scooter that operates independently of electrical power when it comes to braking. ... show more
