Top Amazon Reviews

  • Very happy.
UPDATE-6-17-17: We had a bit of an issue with acceleration with my hubby's scooter and contacted Glion. Their customer service is off the charts AMAZING! They have been SO helpful and SO responsive, I've upgraded my previous 4.5 stars to 5. I have gotten over my tail light issue, but I DO think it would be great if the battery indicator could somehow show the % of remaining battery. Original review: I purchased my Glion in November 2016. Within a week my husband was ready to buy one as well - he did! Overall, I am very pleased. I would give it 4.5 stars. Here are (just) a couple reasons for not giving it a 5 star review: GREAT headlight (which can be angled down to see the road better) but no tail light! Argh. Given that LED lights use so little juice, why not have a real tail light wired like the headlight? I ended up purchasing LED Bicycle lights, front & rear here at Amazon. I added the front light to the top of the stem, just below the handles w/the included silicone mounting straps. I attached the rear to the reflector by turning the reflector sideways and wrap the silicone strap around the back and to the light. This gives me more peace of mind and a LOT more visibility, but it does bug me that I had to do this instead of a powered taillight. The retractable handle and small wheels to roll like luggage is a HUGE selling point. I read that Glion patented this. Genius! It makes perfect sense and makes the scooter SO much more mobile. Add that the scooter folds in half AND the handles drop down too is awesome. I live in NJ and travel by bus into NYC. Getting through Port Authority onto the street is so easy because I can wheel it. 5 stars for folding, portability & mobility! We have both taken it to the market, wheeled it in one hand, while filling a backpack with the other. Fabulous! The battery life seems to be good. I use it mostly in NYC, which is pretty flat, so I get decent life per charge (a solid 2 days). My husband has hills to and from work in NJ; he's 6'2" & 207 lbs and those hills are pretty long & steep and the scooter gets him up them! It does slow down (he sometimes adds a manual kick to help) and diminishes the longevity of the charge, but it's impressive that it can do that! He gets closer to 8-ish miles. Again - this is with a couple serious hills per commute and more weight (vs. my flat ride at 5'9", 135 lbs). I think 15 mph is an adequate speed. The battery charges pretty quickly (0-100% in 3.5 hrs & 75% within 2 hrs) though I wish the battery indicator could show you the percentage of battery remaining (like phones, tablets & laptops) rather than 1, 2, 3 or 4 bars. That's kind of subjective - one bar could be 5-25%, which could also be the difference in making it home w/power or not. The Glion accelerates and brakes nicely. I see some people complain about the brakes, but I like that they're "grippy." I soften my knees and lean back a bit, which helps from feeling like you're going to go over the handles when flying down the road and hit the brake. I love that I never have to worry about flat tires BUT that also makes the ride less smooth/soft, compared to pneumatic tires. That's the tradeoff and one I am willing to take. All in all, I am very happy with the Glion. I would buy it again (hey, we're a 2 Glion family!) but I think the above suggestions (rear light & better battery indicator) could make it pretty darn perfect. A little more speed and distance per charge would be great too but I realize that could add money & weight. I figure this pays for itself within 6 months, assuming one uses mass transit daily, and saves a bunch more over the next year or two after. Buy it and enjoy the ride 'cause it's fun! ... show more

  • Finely-engineered and manufactured
Wow, super-impressed! Here are my initial experiences, I'll update after I've had it a while. My scooter was shipped the same day I ordered it and arrived on-schedule. But the really impressive part was how well-packaged it was. Totally professionally, securely, carefully packaged. Styrofoam, bubble wrap, zip ties. Thick, heavy cardboard. Two boxes, a box in a box. All seams taped. Nylon strapping around the outside. You can tell some very bright people spend a lot of time thinking about, designing, and producing the packaging. Not some thrown-together piece parts but a very skillful mix of custom-made packaging components to assure safe shipping. Now to the scooter. Wow again. This is not a toy. It's a serious piece of transportation equipment. The build quality is outstanding end-to-end. Strong, well-made components throughout. No weak links, no shortcuts. Again, some very smart people must have spent a lot of time designing this scooter. A solid, well-made piece of equipment, not a flimsy toy. I just took my first test ride this morning for about fifteen minutes. I have ridden the 'Bird' scooters in San Diego and LA and this Glion is in a whole separate league. Much more powerful, much smoother acceleration and braking, much sturdier and sure-feeling. A motorcycle analogy: This is like a refined, sophisticated BMW touring bike compared to yappy little Yamaha dirt bike. Finely engineered and manufactured. Set-up and take-down are a breeze and the moving parts to do so have a very solid feel to them. It stands upright very nicely, not tippy. Charging is easy and fast. I've only had this a couple of days but wanted to share first impressions right away. I'll update this review after I've had it a little longer. UPDATE 6/14/18: I have taken this scooter on a couple of rides now and am very impressed. Acceleration is smooth and powerful and braking is sure and strong. I tested it mostly on level terrain as that is what will be typical for me. But I did seek out a couple of hills to test climbing ability. I weigh 175 pounds and it had no trouble taking me up a pretty good grade. It slowed down, of course, but kept going. Braking coming down was more than adequate and it gave me peace of mind to know that because the brakes are electromagnetic there would be no fading in effectiveness as can happen with friction brakes. The brakes held nice and steady all the way down and I only needed about half brake power to maintain a safe speed. The ride is very firm which doesn't matter most of the time. But I did feel pretty abruptly any cracks or ruts in the road. I learned to watch for these and simply flexed my knees a bit more when approaching them. Because the tires are a large diameter, the scooter can take some pretty big cracks and potholes without coming to a sudden stop. I'm happy to trade a firm ride for peace of mind knowing I am not going to get a flat tire miles from home. My rides were each about an hour. I left with a full charge and the battery meter still had all the green battery bars illuminated when I got back, so the range is going to be very good. I charge the scooter with an inverter in my van. I have a watt meter and can see it start at about 80 watts and taper throughout the charging process all the way to zero when it is finished. So there is no risk of over-charging. ... show more
