  • Great Teleprompter for the Price, with a few Caveats
Works great for what it is, and is probably the best value that you'll find for a teleprompter on the internet. The adjustable rack will hold any size tablet. The frame, tripod rack and adjustable sliding tablet holder are sturdy and well built. It even comes with a very nice carrying case, which is a nice touch. I'm happy with this purchase. There are a few issues that I would raise, however (which made me give 4 rather than 5 stars): 1. The locking mechanism (a threaded hand turned screw) is obstructed by the black canvas cover. There is a hole cut out in the cover to allow the screw to pass and screw into the frame of the glass, however the hole is cut in the wrong place and does not line up with the screw or the frame hole. Of the two screws (one on either side) I was only able to get one side to line up with the frame screw hole, and had to cut another hole into the canvas to do so. The other side will not line up at all. This is a quality control issue. 2. The black canvas light blocking cover has a pull string design that tightens over the lens of your camera. This is great in that it will adjust for any camera or lens size, and will fit onto whatever you put on it. The problem is that the fabric of the cover tends to sag and cover up the lens. Before each shoot, I have to pull the fabric back and fold the excess over the lens to try to keep it from sagging in front of the camera's view. No matter how hard I try, there is at least a small bit of the cover that hangs down in front of the lens, so I keep a clip to hold it back. 3. With wide angle lenses, you may see the frame of the teleprompter in the field of view. Zoom in slightly to compensate, and this problem disappears. Here's the thing, a pro level teleprompter with a fixed cover and/or fixed lens mount will cost you 3-5 times the price of the glide gear. Even with the the issues I stated above, I can't justify spending that much more money on a system that does basically the same thing that this one does. In the end, it's just a piece of two-way glass reflecting your tablet's screen. The most important thing to be concerned with when purchasing a beamsplitter type teleprompter such as this is the quality of the glass and the amount of light that is allowed to pass through to your camera lens. Some of the really cheap teleprompters use cheap glass that will block a significant amount of light and degrade your overall picture quality. (This is 70/30 glass) ... show more

  • Outstanding prompter! Easy set up/quick to bring down.Highly recommended. Bright to use outside!
I am using this Teleprompter with a Sony A7III, 70-200 lens and an Atomos Ninja V recorder. There is plenty of room for the camera and lens. Pull the camera and lens away from the mirror as it will help counter balance the rig. I bought Teleprompter Premium program to use with my I pad Pro 11". The I pad has an Otter box Defender case and fits very well. . I don't think a 12" I pad would fit. I control the speed and reset the text to begin again with my I pod touch 7. If you have an I phone you can use it as a controller as well. This is quick, handy and instantly connects. The mirror takes about 1/3 of a stop away. I was a bit nervous as to how many stops the mirror would take. Glad to say that it does not bring down expose that much. I was afraid of color shifting. I don't know how Glide Gear did it but my recordings on my Atomos Ninja V are as clean as if I was not shooting through a mirror. I get a lot of compliments on the rig. I can't tell you how many times I come into a job and the actor sees the prompter and is instantly relieved. No more actors wondering eyes, looking away from the lens or stopping delivery as someone is flashing cue cards. It has made my shoots more productive, easy and stress free. Glide Gear made a hit with this product. I highly recommend this Teleprompter. ... show more

  • Good, inexpensive teleprompter
This is an excellent teleprompter for someone on a budget. I've shot several videos with it now and they all came out great. There's no image degradation that I can notice, and being tablet-based, you can just download a free app to do the actual telemprompting. The words show up bright and clear on the telemprompter glass. Obviously, make sure you have a tablet - this prompter doesn't include one. A 10" tablet seems to work best - a smaller tablet would technically work but you'd just be wasting a lot of the glass. Like a few others have said, I got a unit with some ghosting on the letters on the glass. But they sent me a free glass replacement right away, so I can't complain. Mounting the telemprompter is a little tricky until you know how, and depending on your camera, it can end up being a little front-heavy. (It is for me.) So you may need to upgrade your tripod if you don't have a really heavy-duty head to begin with. The prompter assembly itself is all metal and glass, so it's pretty heavy and, with a camera and tablet attached to it, can easily overwhelm a cheap tripod. My only real issue, and it's more of an annoyance than anything, is that the canvas used as a hood for the lens is very hard to keep out of the frame. This probably depends a lot on the lens itself and its field of view, but I'm using a 20mm lens with a 2:1 crop factor, so equivalent to a 40mm lens on a full frame camera. This is only slightly wide. A "normal" lens (so 25mm to me, or 50mm on a full frame camera) would probably work better, but we can't all pick our lenses based on our teleprompter and anyway I don't have room to use a longer lens. I assume someone looking to save money on a teleprompter like this one is probably planning to use a lens they already had anyway. Anyway, the canvas has a way of bunching up and intruding into the frame and because it's so close to the camera, it's not always obvious until you check your footage afterwards. Then you might just see a strange blur at the top or bottom of the frame, which is the canvas just barely intruding. So I've gotten into the habit of pulling the canvas out and up at the top and out and down at the bottom before every shot, and checking and rechecking that I can't see it in the shot. It's annoying, but not a showstopper. Overall I'm really pleased with this prompter. ... show more
