I was a bit doubtful of this off brand inexpensive unit. However for a rental unit this was my perfect solution at a reasonable price. The basic unit arrived with a dark plastic attachment to match the shape of my current unit. I was very gentle with this and it seated correctly the first time. The unit recommended flushing 4 gallons before use. Glad I did as the initial gallon yielded small “floaters” in my water.

So I installed this filter and all was good until my first cup of ice water. It tasted so foul. Almost like sewer water. I thought maybe it was our water because we have city water. Thought maybe something was going wrong with the city filtering system as it had happened before but the water from the sink did not have a foul smell or taste. I even tried adding ice to a soda and although the soda helped the taste, you could smell the foul odor as the ice started to melt in the glass. When I went to take out the filter as I could not stand the smell or taste anymore, the filter was so stuck that my husband had to take it out with vice grips and we were concerned it had damaged our fridge. From a quick inspection, our fridge doesn’t look damaged. THANKFULLY. DO NOT BUY THIS FILTER.

Purchased these replacement filters for my Whirlpool fridge 9081 (Type 1 purple) filter. I have had to buy the Whirlpool filters at full retail ($60 ea) since almost all the "off brands" leak or have that "growling sound" with no water delivery. Very frustrating to say the least. Based on a few reviews claiming the Glacier Fresh filters fit, didn't leak, and didn't stop the water pump from working, I decided to give them a try. To my relief, those reviews were correct. As of a few days of use covering 10+ gallons of use these filters are great!!! No problems and very crisp clean water dispursed. Very pleased with the filters... and three were 2/3 the cost of one at the local Lowes. Give 'em a try!!
