So far, this was a solid purchase. It retracts very smoothly and completely removes all the bs of reeling in the hose, fighting with a random rock or shrub that's playing tug o war with you. Just hold the nozzle, walk back to the storage reel, and call it a day.

Do yourself a favor a buy this. Seriously. Dealing with manual hose reels that get tangled or jammed was the bane of my spring/summertime existence. These are so incredibly awesome that I bought two. Water pressure is great. They mounted easily and are super sturdy. Hose length is long enough that I can reach everywhere in my yard and I don't have to hear about how I am leaving the hose out in the yard anymore.

After buying one of these hose reels and liking it, I bought another a year later. When I bought my first one, the reviews were higher. When buying the second one, I noticed they had trended downwards a bit. Well, it has been just over 3 years of light use on my newer purchase and when I went to use it, water was pouring out of the bottom. Knowing it was out of warranty, I took it apart to see what was broken. Boy, is this thing designed to be disposable. The hose attaches to the reel with a plastic elbow (which had cracked). That elbow is secured to another plastic sleeve for the water inlet with a plastic c-clip. No standard, off-the-shelf parts here. And of course, not available from Giraffe Tools, either. Additionally, the hose is attached to the elbow using a compression fitting so you'd have to buy the entire hose for a failed plastic elbow. Using all plastic parts for the critical components does not make for a durable product. That, in and of itself, isn't a big deal if the product were designs it to be serviceable and replacement parts are available. That's not the case here. I contemplated ways to fix it until I noticed Costco sells an automatic reel which ADVERTISES it has a user-replaceable hose. It was longer and cheaper and is backed by a Costco lifetime warranty...I decided to cut my losses as it seems most hose reels on Amazon are a crap-shoot at least that's the picture I get from reading the reviews. TL;DR, It worked great...until it didn't. Important parts are all plastic. These parts are not standard items that can be purchased at a hardware store and are also not available from the company. For the price they're charging, I would look elsewhere.

First impressions are good, it works as expected. I also have the 60' Giraffe "Heavy Duty" hose reel, and this one is heavier duty, if that means anything considering they're both made of plastic. This one is smoother w/an easier to install, more stable mounting solution...at least for mounting in wood. Hose quality is the same and both work fine. If I had it to do over again, I'd get this one times two instead of getting the 60' one. Hope this helps!

This hose reel worked well for the first year. Fairly easy to install. If you are mounting to brick, you'll need some Tapcons and a hammer drill. However, after draining it and storing it in a climate controlled shop over winter, the next summer it started leaking from within the reel. It was a small leak so I could live with it. The next summer it got even worse and I decided to change the hose on the inside. This is where my issue lies with this product. They make it impossible to change the house on the inside. The reel itself worked great, it was the hose and the connections within that failed. I didn't need to buy a whole new reel. If they would have made it possible to change the hose on the inside, this would be a 5 star product. However, poor design and what I can only assume to be corporate greed and poor quality assurance have led to me giving this a subpar rating. This could be a great product, however they missed the landing on this one.
