The reel housing is solid and we have been very happy with the product. After less than a year, however, the hose is starting to fail. We always turn the water off when not in use, so it is never left pressurized. Nonetheless, the hose is now showing multiple places of ballooning and failure (leaks). I contacted the vendor and so far there has been no response. Update: After notifying Giraffe support of my issue, they contacted me and promptly sent a replacement reel. When I say I research products before I buy, that’s a huge understatement! I looked everywhere at everything single hose reel offered before settling on this one. I can say my diligence paid off and the best choice was made! Saves a great deal of time when watering the lawn and so convenient. No more dragging around the hose. Such an organized and clean look when not in use. The only complaint I have if there is one is the hose itself. Par for the course being a 5/8 hose. It’s easy to move around being a 5/8 hose, but does kink if your stretched across the yard and make a twist or turn. I can stretch the hose all the way out and it is strong enough to retract! DO NOT LET GONIF THE HOSE!!!! It will reel in quick. BUY THE 5/8 HOSE, NOT THE 1/2”. Wish they made it in a thicker hose even. I expect this reel to last for years! Quality is top notch and even though the mount is plastic it is of great quality and holds the reel secure. No wobbling or play. Simple to instal and easy to store away for the winter. Bought a year ago and didn’t have time to install. Stored it unopened im the box in the heated garage. Installed a few months ago and it has been working great. Retracts well and replaces having to haul hoses everywhere and keeps them off the ground. We always turn off the water supply and leave the sprayer open before reeling it back in to relieve pressure. A few days ago bubbles started forming in the hose, like the inner and outer layers were separating and water was flowing between the layers. Last night the hose burst and is now leaking water. I’d like to replace it with a better quality hose, but at not sure whether the spring mechanism will still function if I open the case. I’m honestly surprised that it lasted such a short time, especially since this product is one of the more expensive options that are available. ... show more
