The sun pours thru my large bedroom window and heats my room up too much so I decided to give this a try. First install was a disaster and it fell off a few hours later. So next time, I sprayed the window really well with windex and the product installed beautifully and is still on. I love that it lets some light in. The temperature difference is noticeable. I have black out drapes and a lighter curtain over top of them and only installed it on the top sash of the window since I also have a paper shade on the bottom sash. Works perfectly for me. I can open the curtains and leave the blind closed so no one can see me in my room but I still get a little light. Very happy with this purchase.

I used the Gila Glare Control Film on two skylights in the sloped roof of my studio apartment. My brother helped me with the installation and I don't think it could have been done by one person alone, because it required being up on a ladder and because the slope meant the film couldn't adhere to the window by gravity -- we have to push it against the window using the squeegee. Other than that, the film was fairly easy to deal with and the finished effect is quite neat. I do recommend watching Gila's installation video online as well as reading the printed instructions included with the film. Although my first impression was that the "Smoke" product was darker than I had expected, once up on the windows it does not seem too dark. It reduces the strong glare of the sun beaming down into the apartment, which is especially helpful when I sit at the computer under one of the skylights. The temperature in the apartment is definitely moderated, comparing the 90-plus temperatures we've had over the past week with the same outdoor temps a few weeks ago. So the film is doing just as advertised. Yet I can still enjoy the tree tops, clouds, and moon through the skylights. Also, I made my own application solution using a little dish soap and water in a squirt bottle. It worked just fine.

I have a window that always gets lots of summer sun, which heats up my house, even with the blinds closed. I decided to try this tint to supplement my existing efforts and perhaps provide some extra daytime privacy, too. I thought this was fairly easy to apply. I cut the film (while it was still on the paper backing) to the width I needed for my window (the height was exactly right, by happy coincidence). This would have been easier if the manufacturer put grid makings on the paper backing, but they didn't. The factory-cut edge of mine was a zig-zag cut instead of a straight line, which may bother some people but doesn't really matter for where I'm putting this. For the actual application, I used a spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap and water to lightly spray the already-cleaned window, then I applied this film and smoothed it out with a plastic card. It has stuck nicely ever since I placed it, and I managed to smooth out most of the noticeable air bubbles (probably could have gotten them all if I tried, but I don't care that much). I did this by myself, but it would have definitely been easier with two people. Based on another review, I was worried that this product would make the view outside the window blurry. It appears slightly blurry right off the roll if you hold the film up to your eye, but in actual usage, while it's not quite crystal clear, I don't think there's an extreme blur by any means. The tint is also very dark, so I hope that helps when it gets hot later this summer. If you're concerned about privacy, I checked my house from the outside, and it was nearly impossible to see in during the day. When it's dark outside, however, it's still quite easy--but I think you'll get that with all tints. I also like that this one is static cling and NOT adhesive, so I can easily remove it in the winter when I want the heat or if I move. I've also used the Artscape Energy Film Glare Control Window Film. The tint on that one is more of a brownish gray, whereas I'd say the Gila is more of a blue-ish gray. The Artscape one doesn't distort clarity at all, whereas I did mention above that the Gila may have a bit of a blur (but not that noticeable). The Artscape is, to my eyes, also not quite as strong of a tint as the Gila. Both, however, are static cling (no adhesive), block 98% of UV, and provide some tint. This (Gila) is both cheaper and longer. The Artscape comes with a plastic backing that may make it easier to apply without damaging the film, but I was fine with both. Unfortunately, I can't quite directly compare the two, as I put the Artscape on my skylight (*very* difficult to install, but I imagine this one would be too) and the Gila on a regular window. If you're deciding between the two, I'd decide whether you want a light or dark tint, how much you're willing to spend, and whether or not you value crystal clarity (though either is acceptable, I think).

Works just as described. This window film really cuts down on the typical glare you get with these type of window films. I have the mirrored window film on all my windows, but I decided to give this a try because I hate no being able to see out my windows at night. Plus with that window film it's easy for others to see in at night. I wish I would have purchased this window film instead and will likely be replacing all my old film soon because of the visibility issue mentioned previously. I installed window film on all my windows at home to help lower my cooling costs. I only have single pane windows in my house and I live in south Florida, so its almost always hot. This film really does make a difference. I no longer feel hot sitting next to the windows on a hot summer day. Before the window film was installed you felt much hotter when sitting by the windows. Pros: -Product was relatively easy to install -Cuts down on cooling costs -Adds to daytime privacy -Minimal glare at night time Cons: -Takes practice to get a clean install

I Install this film on the inside of my skylight. One person can do this with ease while standing on a ladder. The trick is lots of water. Spray the window until it is very wet and then spray the side of the film touching the window until it is dripping wet. As I was climbing the ladder water was running off. When you do this simple step the film easily slides where you want it. Start at one side and keep putting it on a bit at a time. Like most I use a teaspoon of soap with water. Then slide in place, take a rubber shower squeegee and smooth it out removing the water. Absolutely no bubbles. The film is great. It does darken the light outside but it is grayish clear. I had to have because the glare was so bad I couldn't see my computer. The film is thick enough and difficult to tear so it should last a while.

It a little blur but not bad. Easy to install but had issues with roll being half used. So order replacement and same thing happened haha so I just sent them back but take photos of before opening and after I’m case that happens to you. Day time hard to see in is great and does keep the room cooler without darkening so much. Night you can see in when indoor has lights on but that’s with any film

Ok, so I've thought about buying window film ever since we purchased our home a little over a year ago. We have two large windows in the living room--almost floor to ceiling--that get full sun from about 7:00am until 12:30pm or so. Needless to say, they let in a LOT of summer heat and I knew I needed to do something. We've used decorative films in the past, more for privacy than for heat control, but I absolutely hate not being able to see out of my windows. I looked and I looked and I just couldn't find anything that 1. blocked the sun, 2. let me see out (day or night), and 3. didn't need a razor blade if I ever wanted to take them down. This film meets all of those requirements!! So I bought two rolls to film one window and see if I liked it (the windows are that big, I needed two rolls for one side.) I'm not going to detail how I installed them because I think it's pretty well explained in various previous reviews. I just want to talk about what I've noticed. First of all they do darken the view (duh!) with a sort of blueish grey tint but it much less cave like than when I had all the curtains and blinds closed 24/7. Second they do distort the view a bit. It seems that it does get a little better over time as the water between the window and the film dries, but it's still there, and more noticeable if you are up close to the window. It doesn't really bother me overall. Third, I can see out the windows at night. Yes, the lights need to be dim inside and it helps if there is a light outside but I can see if someone pulls into the driveway or walks past, and that is acceptable to me. If the living room is brightly lit, I do get a bit of the 'mirror effect' but not nearly as bad as with some of the other films. Fourth and final point. They keep it soooo much cooler. To see how much cooler I closed the sheers and the blinds and waited until the windows were in full sun for about 3 hours and it was 96f outside. I put the thermometer into the uncovered window and let it set for 15 minutes--it read 115f. Then I moved the thermometer to the window with film and let it set for 15 minutes--90f. I still can't believe they reduce the heat by that much! And even better yet, my central air actually turns off and on throughout the day instead of running for six hours or more straight. Overall I am completely happy and bought more film for the rest of the windows! For the price and how great they've worked for me I can't help but recommend them. If you're on the fence, buy a roll and try it out--that's what I did!

Our kitchen has large glass sliding doors and we wanted to cut down the direct afternoon sunlight. We have used blinds and drapes over the years and they work but we wanted to reduce the light between the blinds or drapes when partially open. Attenuating total light with neutral density film seem to be the ticket and it kind of is. The film cuts down the light quite noticeably. We have not had it up during the summer yet but I am positive it will reduce heat in the kitchen because I can already notice it on warm days. It also makes it hard to see inside during the day but does not stop visibility at night. We expected this and so no big deal. Before applying to the window I called for support. The contact was very nice and helpful. I felt very prepared to apply. Since each window is approximately 6 foot by 3 foot I had help and it was needed. We followed directions and found it fairly easy to get the film to the windows. They were installed on the outside because we were told mounting it on the inside of double pained windows could cause damage from built up heat. The first problem came when we started trimming the film. It seem that the break off knives either are not sharp or heavy enough to make perfect cuts. We went to the heavier replaceable utility knife we bought at Lowe's and that worked much better. We still had some problem cutting perfectly matching lines because of the tapered rubber seal. I think there would have been no problem on a window without a rubber trim but I ended up with some very visible light leaks. More my problem then the product but I think there might have been some leakage no matter who did it. Not real bad but noticeable. The film is pretty thick so no worries about ripping during application but the film is not perfectly uniform so there is vertical stripe rippling which distorts the view a little. It is not real bad but defiantly noticeable. In conclusion we are about 80% happy with the product. We accomplished what we wanted, It was not too bad to install but we wanted window clarity.
