Just remodeled a basement room that has a stone wall in it...needed a fireplace to complete the look but did not have much width to work with. This electric fireplace is the perfect size, both in width and height and it works great (although I have yet to test it on a really cold day). I am confident it will heat this 350 sq ft room just fine. Going to build a hearth for it to sit on and also a decorative surround and a mantel...low profile so it doesn't protrude into the room very far. It has manual controls on a panel at the base that is accessible through a fold down panel and it is also controlled with a remote. *** Note: 1 Reviewer posted that they don’t know if it works as the remote arrived “dead.” Heads-up, there’s a thin piece of clear plastic on the remote that needs to be gently pulled out to activate the battery. I thought my remote was dead as well, until my teen pulled the clear plastic tag out of it (... and rolled her eyes at me..! Lol). I own a 1700 sq ft colonial home in Buffalo, NY (brrrrrr....) that was built in 1899 (blown-in insulation probably circa 1960-1970 as it’s now settled into the lower 2.5’ portion of my walls...). I have 10’ ceilings and have taken down several walls to give the main floor a more open-concept (probably close to 800/900 sq ft). I purchased the electrical insert: 1. Because it is cost-effective; 2. To fill a void in a now-defunct wood-burning fireplace hearth/box; 3. For “clean-burning” fireplace effect, 4. To supplement my heat in the open, high ceiling living room; 5. For ambiance. I am beyond pleased. First, price. Actually, I would have paid double for this unit. Second, easy set up. There was no “set up.” Slide it out of box, place it where you want it. Plug it in. Easy-peas. Third, ambiance. I was extremely, pleasantly surprised. Old electric inserts were so cheesy. This unit has 5 levels of “fire glow” and they look relatively realistic. 3 people have thought it was gas. Fourth, no odor. Outside of the initial plug in and burn off of the residual manufacturing smell (... which only lasted 10 mins), there’s no odor. That’s important as we have asthmatics in the house. Fifth, heat output. This unit has 3 heat levels: no heat, (just flame effect), low and high. Flame effect and heat are controlled separately on the remote. Even the low heat effect has helped on our sub-zero winter wind-chill days here in Buffalo. The unit does supplement my furnace heat and keeps my living room toasty. I’m excited to use it on those “transition” spring and fall days where you just want to take the chill out of the air but don’t want to turn the whole-house furnace on. Sixth, quiet. This unit does have a hum when the heat is blowing (if you only have the fire effect turned on, there’s no noise). The hum is the same on both high and low heat settings; it is not distracting or outrageous. Of course if my power goes out this electric insert won’t help, but I am over-the-moon pleased with the unit as a whole and the glowing fire effect. I am now considering a second unit for another defunct fireplace in my dining room. 5-Star unit for sure. ... show more

I installed this fireplace where the television had been mounted in the bedroom of my 37 foot motor home in order to get a safe electric heat source in that room. I also wanted it to be controlled by the wall mounted thermostat I installed, and only to run on 750 watts normally. This required dis-assembly and some minor re-wiring, but now I have the unit powered only when the thermostat calls for heat and on the 750 watt heating element. When I want the faux fireplace effect, I simply push the button on the control panel to turn that feature on and control the LED light intensity. I also have the option of touching the control panel button to add the second heating element for 1500 watts when I have sufficient power available and want more heat. Once the thermostat turns the heater off, everything defaults to the 750 watt heating element for the next on cycle which is perfect for when the motor home is in storage. Unfortunately the manufacturer installed a beeper on the circuit board, so every time the heater would turn on, it would beep. How annoying... Fortunately it was relatively easy to un-solder the beeper and re-install the circuit card. This Fireplace looks great, is well built, doesn't rattle when driving down the road, (after easily removing the control door pull ring) and is a good value for the price. ... show more

We order our first one, and were extremely pleased. Let it run a few days and it was fine ! Ordered a second exact unit for another room, but it was not a good unit. It made more noise from the fan than the first sibling did, so we knew that was wrong. Also, the second remote required you to be within say a foot or so of the unit. The first and other exact same unit, we could work with remote from our bed which is about 3 meters from fireplace (10 feet). Not too many instructions about recessed mounting. I would like to see them suggest recessed mountings ( as the air input would be from within the wall ) openings for fan since they are on the top back.. so we need to know or figure out how heater air for the blower will get in back there .. this might be a problem .. if you sealed it up, no air could flow from the heater. ... show more
