I have extremely thick hair with too much volume. It's curly underneath, and straight on the top. I like the width of the plate, and don't find the dryer heavy to operate. There is a learning curve, but it's not steep. I find this to be the most efficient tool I have ever used on my hair. Contrary to what the directions indicate, it's not timely to dry one section, switch to the smoothing section, and then switch back to drying the hair. It takes a good 3 minutes. I sent the tool back to GHD and after they "repaired" my expensive new tool of 2 weeks, then sent it back with the delay. EDIT: I have a lemon. At my own expense I returned it to GHD. They sent it back, supposedly repaired. I have since used it twice. Today, my third time, I got a flashing red light. It is hard to believe, but for $350, this product has a 30 day return period. Pros: Great tool for straightening thick long curly or wavy hair (2C, 3B, 3C, or 4A). Helped cut hair straightening time by about 50% so it was worth it for me. Read instructions/reviews for optimal use. Cons: Not as travel-friendly as I hoped. Also, tried to use it at a 5-star hotel chain in Auckland without success; so this doesn't work in New Zealand (maybe not Australia either?). Got an error code on the display instead. Very heavy, so won't attempt to lug to Europe with me next time. I'll be using it in the US only. ... show more

I have 3c/4a curly/coily hair. I used this for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I was able to blow dry & get my hair silky straight and it was shiny. It took around 1 hour for the whole process since I needed to get use to the product and wasn't hard for me to use if you actually follow instructions. I'm so happy I went with my gut and bought it instead of reading reviews. It worked so well....I currently have a revair but it isn't good for travel, I needed something that would be and this fit the bill perfectly. The price is high but it's worth it. I love the idea of this product. It takes a really long time to dry your hair and the flat iron doesn’t make it all the way to your roots. If you’re in a pinch and can only carry ‘one thing’ it’s a good choice but honestly, I use my other (cheaper) products instead, they dry my hair faster and straighten more effectively. It also sounds like a jet engine starting up which is actually kind of cool lol. ... show more
