  • Gevi counter top ice maker
Size: Nugget Ice Style: White
We have had this product for 4 months now and love the ice it makes. For the most part it’s very quiet, ice is produced fast and adding the inline water option makes this a great product. Every 2-3 weeks it starts to make a little noise which goes away when running the cleaning cycle. To make the cleaning cycle easier I bought a 1/4” OD quick connect with a shut off valve takes the 2 drain hoses and runs them through the valve into a single drain hose that I can unroll to a bucket. My only complaint is the pump that feeds the water stopped working and I found one on Amazon and replaced it. The ice maker directions say to clean every 2 weeks. I don’t think that’s necessary, when it starts to make a noise in the 2-3 week mark I simply put it in clean mode and run the cycle 2 times. I don’t add the Citrix acid or drain the water, I just runs the clean cycle and it runs good for another 2-3 weeks. You might notice after the 2-3 week mark that the ice slows down the production of ice. Simple run the clean cycle and it continues to function as designed. When I ran the inline water I also added a filter. You will need to spend the extra money and get one that filters out the minerals, it’s the mineral build up that requires to frequent cleaning. There will be a point where you actually have to perform a clean cycle with the cleaning product. Your cleaning cycle is dependent on your water quality, hard water will require more cleaning, thus buy a quality inline filter. Highly recommending this product. ... show more

  • ELECTRIC ICE BUCKET - Perfect ice every time! Great for entertaining and for everyday use!
Size: Nugget Ice Style: Black
When we renovated our summer home, we thought about putting in a built-in ice maker. Given the seasonal use of the home however, it really didn't make sense to do that. This ice maker is the perfect solution. CAPACITY: We purchased this ice maker to use for a recent weekend gathering of about 25 people over 3 days. Having to keep refilling an ice bucket or a cooler or, even worse, having people in and out of the kitchen freezer ice maker, were not appealing options! I admit that I was worried that this wouldn't keep up with the demand - I was very wrong. This machine makes more ice than you think! I just had to periodically check the water level and keep it filled which wasn't a big deal at all. And the machine keeps it chilled/frozen but doesn't clump it together. SIZE OF CUBES: The size of the ice is great! The pellets are about 1/2" cube (but round-ish) - perfect for cocktails and filling a glass of ice water on a hot day! NOISE: I don't find this appliance noisy at all. You can periodically hear the ice dropping in and it churning but I don't think it sounds any different than any other ice maker - built in or otherwise. EASE OF USE: EASY! EASY! EASY! We use it every weekend. Even if it is just a few of us, I plug it in when we get down on Friday and have been religious about draining the appliance at the end of every weekend so water doesn't sit in it (yuck). You just discard any remaining ice out of the collector, pop the drainage tubes from the back and hang them down to drain. It's really simple. Make sure that you leave a container for drainage under the unplugged tubes. I found out the hard way that even though the water has completely drained, some of the residual freezing water may still need to thaw and drain out. (OK - it's my new toy - I will admit it!) Filling the reservoir - I agree with other reviews --> if you fill it using a big water jug or pitcher, it can get a little "splashy". So I use a 24 oz plastic Nutribullet cup and that works like a charm - more pour control, less chance of it pouring out/over the sides of the pull-down door. Problem solved there! VALUE FOR MONEY: Worth it!!! I had been looking at the expensive GE ice makers that run into $600-$700 range and couldn't justify spending that kind of money. We purchased this appliance during a lightning deal sale for $340!!! We are very happy with the price we paid especially for the product it provides. SPEED: This makes ice pretty fast! And whatever sensor this thing has, it will start making ice as the collector bucket gets emptied by people (as long as there is water in the bottom). APPLIANCE SIZE: I consider this pretty compact compared to others I've seen and used in the past. It's too tall to slide under some standard wall cabinets. So double check your spacing between counter and wall cabinets. FLAVOR: I gave a 5-star rating for the "Flavor" rate feature but I don't know if that has to do with the machine, the water used and/or with maintenance. What I can say is that we use filtered water - not sure if that makes a difference in performance and taste but we absolutely don't have an issue with taste. I use the filtered water versus tap because we have "hard" water where we are and heaven only knows what is in that water!! And, as previously noted, I drain it at the end of every weekend which is super easy! I never just unplug and let water sit in the lines. ICE USAGE: You can definitely put this ice in a cooler for icing down beverages but you can't unload the ice into a standard kitchen ice tray for use later - it will turn into one big clump of ice cubes. The ice is meant to stay in the ice bucket in the machine where it chills to keep the ice at the perfect consistency. So don't think you can mass produce ice for use later in an ice bucket. This IS the perfect electric ice bucket!! Just periodically check the water levels and it will keep cranking!! Buy this even if it is just for your immediate family but especially if you like to entertain! You won't regret it. ... show more

  • Great ice maker but CLEANING once a month or two months is REQUIRED
Size: Nugget Ice Style: Stainless Steel
(for ice maker with window) When we first got this ice maker it was great except for one thing. When the water level was low it would do this loud squealing as if something needed oil. During a conference call this squealing was so loud I had to unplug it to get it to stop. Powering it off from the front didn't work. Fast forward to 3 months of near blissful ice production and it STOPPED WORKIING. Turned out the pump was clogged due to the high mineral content in our water which comes from underground aquifers. I started to clean the system by first draining the existing water out and pulling the filter screen in the tank. What I noticed was lots of thin white membrane like material in the water. I also scrubbed down the lower tank with a little brush and it was extremely slimey. Nothing was growing but there was a slime coating in the lower tank. Note this model does have a UV light that kills everything that might try to grow in the upper tank. However this won't prevent build up of all those dead micro-organisms in the lower tank and possibly in the water line within it. So cleaning this once a month is a must do. So how did I clean this machine? I started with a shot of white vinegar and running the cleaning cycle over and over again for a day. I also ordered the cleaning powder that comes in 4 packets from Gevi. As I cleaned it with vinegar I noticed that more and more those white floating membranes came down into the lower tank. After about 5 or 6 cleaning cycles I drained the water out and cleaned the screen again and made sure that the white membranes were all sucked out. I then refilled the tank, added a shot of white vinegar again and ran it again for 5 to 6 times before draining out the tank again and cleaning the screen. I did this for a total of 3 to 4 times. The next day when I got the Gevi cleaner and descaler I filled up the tank and added only about half the packet. I read a lot of reviews where they said the cleaner made the ice taste funny so I decided to only use half a packet as the packets are NOT designed for one packet one tank usage. There's a whole mg to ml of wather conversion on these and I decided let's just start small. After running the descaler for 5 to 6 cleaning cycles I saw a lot more white membranes floating in the lower tanks. I drained the tank one more time and then ran the ice maker with just water and nothing else for another 5 to 6 cycles. Very little white membranes came down to the lower tank. I drained the water one last time and now the machine runs like a champ. No more squealing and it runs a lot quieter. I believe when you first get this machine you should run through this cleaning exercise with either white vinegar or a descaler as there may be something left in the pipes or the pump of this machine that came from manufacturing that causes the pump to jam and stop working which is signaled first by that loud squealing noise and then the pump stopping altogether. I considered getting a commercial ice maker rather than this machine but those are much larger and for this type of ice and production speed would be closer to $1000 or more. For what I paid with the $150 coupon I still believe this machine is worth it. You MUST run only filtered water through it and you MUST clean it at least once a month with descaler or vinegar. To those that say a commercial grade ice maker is better and less trouble, I would challenge you to check the tanks and the filters on those machines and you will likely see a horror show of nastiness in those machines as well. I do think there are improvements that can be made to future models such as making the intake screen larger so that it wouldn't jam too easily. Also to run at least one cleaning cycle through the machine before shipping. A regular light combined with a UV light at the lower tank would be great too. As it's hard to see the water level of the tank before you accidentally over fill it. So in essence great ice maker so far and it sounds like the company stands behind their product. Now that we know we need to descale it every month or two the machine actually runs quieter and very efficiently. I looked at their competitor the GE ice maker 2.0 which now has a UV light too but for a much higher price people are complaining about the same thing with the pump jamming or disgusting buildup destroying their machines. The difference is that cleaning those machines won't get them to work again. Still a good buy. It made my Fiancee very happy as she believes these ice nuggets are better than the ones from Chik-fila and she has 24 hour access to as much as she can eat. Hope this helps. ... show more
