I’ve had 3 Gerber dimes, been happy with them, but thought to change it up. After handling The Vise, it is not as refined, has sharper edges, feels cheaper, and is a step down. I would recommend the old Dime instead.

This is better for more rural use as opposed to the Gerber dime, which more suited for urban, personal grooming. The Vice lacks the scissors & tweezers. But the Vice has an extra serrated blade along with the regular slip joint spey/pen type blade. It's thicker than the Gerber dime but gets rid of the annoying protruding bottle opener the Dime has. They both have the same tiny file with the 2 dimensional Phillips, which is better used at a 45° angle than fully deployed. I wish Gerber would have placed the keyring/lanyard hole on the other end, away from the blade use end. Use a Nitize lil S beaner to attach it to your keys or whatever, so you can take whatever off before deploying the blades for use. Light duty pliers, not designed for big nuts. ... show more

Got this as an add-on item for under $10 to replace a small Victorinox Classic I lost a while back. I keep it on my keychain and it doesn't take too much room. I found that both blades were very sharp right out of the box and easy to get to without needing to open you the pliers. The other tools were very stiff and hard to deploy at first, especially the almost too small to be useful nail file/screwdriver. With some usage they have loosened up a little and are much easier to deploy. The pliers are really too small to be of great use, but nice to have in a pinch and although this doesn't have a pair of tweezers, I find that I can use the pliers as a substitute (actually was able to get a splinter out with them). I use it most often to open packages and have used the screwdrivers for replacing batteries in electronics and small toys. ... show more

2 design issues .... The blade is small enough already but 1/4 of it is blocked if you use a lanyard or on a key ring... ( the spot for the lanyard ring should have been on the other side of the tool instead of right next to the open blade) and... Opening the knife blade is from the left hand side with an awkward counter clockwise movement... If you try to open it with your right hand you have to sweep your hand over the top as you're opening it instead of pulling it away like you normally would. Bizarre design. ... show more
