  • Seems decent
Pattern Name: LC60A 5.5W
I haven't used this laser cnc as yet. I'll tell you the reason for this. I'm old! I care about my eyesight. After researching this product and cnc lasers, even after the purchase, I ran into a video talking about safety glasses and why you shouldn't trust the glasses that come with some of these possible foreign made systems. First off, they don't give all the specifications for their systems, like VLT, O.D., I looked at the manual for the laser itself and the only safety certification, if that's what you call it, is FDA approval. Approval for what? That they would protect my eyes from flying objects or from a 455nm cnc laser. I finally purchased a pair of safety glasses that fall in the range I need, but I'm still not confident in their safety either. At least the new pair I purchased, have the specifications printed on the plastic lenses. I know that Amazon is a big company, but I feel that if you're going to sell a product in U.S. or anywhere for that matter, you have a responsibility to insure that the product is completely safe for your consumer. Over the past several years, with deregulation, our country's product safety has went down the tubes. It seems for now, that no one really cares about it at all. Fox News owner R. Murdoch said in some conversations that leaked out to the press that, it's not red, or blue, it's GREEN that matters. For me it's a little different, it's RED, WHITE, and BLUE! I don't care if this gets posted or not. But someone should start paying attention to what's right for a change. ... show more

  • Overall good, but NO adjustable Eccentric Spacers please read.
Pattern Name: LC60A 5.5W
I have had this model for about a year now, and it has served me well for my needs but there were a few things that I did not like. Please read on. This was my first laser engraver purchase, and the main draw for me was the large work area, which I needed for my planned usage. I did upgrade the laser head to a dual-diode 10watt model early on as most of my use is for cutting, and not engraving. In the course of my upgrading, I did discover that the rollers are NOT mounted with Eccentric Spacers, just normal spacers. If you are new to laser engravers, this IS an important fact. Eccentric spacers allow for you to adjust the grip of the rollers onto the rails. Without them, there will be wobble and your cuts will certainly show it. In my case, the X gantry (horizontal movements) always had wobble; the Y axis was good. So, another upgrade was needed to modify the gantry laser mounting plates to add the eccentric spacers. This GREATLY helped with the accuracy. The engraver market has grown even more in the past year, with many companies offering larger footprint machines, so you have more options to consider. My other mods included adding drag chain covering to all of the wiring harnesses for better cable management and creating my own enclosure and smoke removal system. If you are new to lasering, these will be features you will want to research and plan for as well. Overall I am still happy with my purchase, and I learned a lot in my time using it. I am still using it for large scale cutting projects. ... show more

  • Large cutting area
Pattern Name: LC60A 5.5W
I used this for cutting cardboard and tempered hardboard. It does a decent job. I couldn't find a honeycomb laser bed big enough for this cutting area, but I found a mesh patio table that worked perfectly. I took off one star because I found youtube videos of other similarly-priced lasers cutting through wood faster than even the upgraded laser on this unit can do. ... show more

  • Great for getting into laser engraving
Pattern Name: LC60A 5.5W
Being the recipient of other cheap Chinese DIY devices (3D printers) I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent assembly instructions! The large format is great, and I love how I can just grab the entire thing and place it directly on top of what I want to engrave. The Lightburn can do a ton of stuff, and worth the extra $60 for the license. If I recall correctly, it's also good for 2 computers. The not so good, open lasers invite curious eyes. Animals, kids... It's like looking at the arc when someone is welding, hard to NOT look... Plus, it can smoke up your workshop quickly, depending on what you're working on. I mean, it's totally expected, being it's totally open frame! That being said, I'm making an enclosure with 2020 extrusions and ACM boards with an inline fan to exhaust smoke/fumes outside and keep from burning out retinas. I did have an issue with connecting my MacBook Pro, but Ryan in theor tech support replied within a day with screenshots and clear instructions on how to get it working on my 12 year old Mac! If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. ... show more

  • Great laser
Pattern Name: LC60A 5.5W
This is my first laser. It came super well padded and packaged. It took maybe 20 minutes to assemble. 45 minutes to find a flat board to set it up on. A 36 x 36 inch workspace is needed, then maybe another 6 inches on one dimension to keep the air assist pump out of the way of the moving parts and moving wiring loom. It went together no problem. Lot's of little bolts and 4 different sized hex wrenches, but thoughtfully they are all in this little tackle box divided and labeled clear case. Every size had one extra included. Also 2 extra homing sensors are in the tackle box. Very nice and stout setup. My x axis drive belt had enough slop in it to allow the stepper gear to skip teeth and slip on the belt. Contacted sainsmart and they sent me tightening instructions and a picture/diagram the next day. Got that fixed and I'm really happy with the whole setup. After using in the house once we quickly realized that it needs 1x2 and plastic cover or enclosure to hook up a blower to and probably will live in a shed... You're burning wood. The slate coasters could be done in the house, nothing burning there. The laser with the lightburn software really is a nice setup. Like any tool or new software, it's got a learning curve and it'll take a while to master. I would highly recommend this laser and this company. ... show more

  • Not good with Mac
Pattern Name: LC50-PLUS 10W
Have had nothing but driver issues with Mac OS. Will prob get a cheap PC laptop to run it off of. Cuts and engraves in reverse no matter how the origin is set in lightburn. Only option to get it to cut and engrave correctly is to flip the image burn you cut. If the manufacturer has any suggestions, I’m open ears. ... show more
