In case anyone has an older fridge from GE like myself, it works perfectly. I live alone, and use the filter for my morning coffee. Generally replace it once a year, rather than every six months. Worth paying for the peace of mind to filter out any possible impurities. Very easy to install. I press the "reset water filter" button after installing and I run about 3 liters through the system. This is the 3rd time I have replaced the filter in the 4* years that I have owned the fridge. Cost is cheaper here and service was excellent. The GE filter actually lasts about a year depending on usage. As long as the flow is good the filter is working. Just remove filter when light first appears, give it a quick shake and rinse in the sink, re-install and reset the light. If flow is still good use it until the light illuminates again. I have not tried the generic ones but have gotten good use from the branded ones at a much better price with free shipping from Amazon. Update: Light went on in December almost to the day from when I switched it out last. Tried the trick of removing filter, shaking it and running the opening under tap water. Re-installed the filter, re-set the light and went about my business. It is now March and the light has yet to come on, flow and taste are still good. Could it be that the change filter light has a built in timer that comes on regardless of the condition of the filter? I'm just saying. I will buy a new one here once I am convinced the old one actually needs replacing. ... show more

It took longer to unattach the old filter than it did to install this new one. I took the advice of another reviewer and filled the new filter with water before I installed it. No drips, no problems whatsoever. I ran water through the unit for 3 minutes as they recommend. Water tastes great and the water flow is much better. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the high price. I usually purchase generic replacements (for everything) instead of using the brand name replacements, but based on the issues other reviewers here were having with leaks and bad tasting water, I went with the GE brand filter. But I think GE could drop the price by $20 and still realize a decent markup. ... show more

Wow this filter is amazing! It fits perfectly in my GE Profile refrigerator. It was so easy to instal. It was done in less then three minutes. The water tastes great and so do the ice cubes. I am using my filtered water for my coffee and sun tea and it makes a huge difference and tastes delicious! These filters last for over a year. But I think I used my for almost two years and it still worked. I would highly recommend purchasing this product. It was very affordable which is great! ... show more
