    • WiFi Issue That All Buyers Should Be Aware Of

No beef with the generator and its ability to provide backup power, works as advertised. The issue is the WiFi network adapter which allows the homeowner to administrate the usage from an app. It's an issue that the company is fully aware of and will not support. I manage my entire home network after spending 20 years in the IT business. I have over 20 wireless devices connected to my network with no issues, everything's rock solid. The generator network adapter will not stay connected. I can configure it and allow it to connect but in a couple of hours, it's disconnected. Spent soooo much time on the phone with their customer support and swapping out equipment as suggested with negative results. Issue #1 is it doesn't work with a mesh network. Ok, I'll rebuild my entire network to accomodate that and now I have a native Ethernet wireless network, no change. Still won't stay connected. Issue #2 is that it will only work with either of two network extenders. I have three network bars on my iPhone standing right next to the unit but will place an extender inside the house probably four feet away but it's a Linksys extender which I used years ago before mesh technology was even invented. No change, it still disconnects meaning that when it is connected, the Mobile Link app on my phone can communicate with it where all the scheduled tests are controlled, logs can be viewed, etc. So at this point, I open a ticket with Generac and contact two local certified dealers to have them come out and either repair this unit that is only two months old or replace the network module with a cellular device. Both said they would be charging me $500 to do a service call. What???? It's brand new! Back on the phone to Generac and the same response, either try buying one of the two network extenders that will cause it to work or buy and new cellular module to replace the WiFi one. I'm giving up now, they certainly don't advertise this limitation when they're trying to sell it to you and their lack of support and backing up their product is absolutely the worst. ... show more
