I have been stubborn and refused to upgrade until it had gotten to the point where most Websites wouldn't load due to outdated browsers. Couldn't update the Browsers due to my version of Windows. Grrrr! Didn't want to update to Windows because, well..... Let's just say I don't trust them to protect my privacy and that company seems to think that THEY own my computer and not me. Thankfully, this GeekOM is fully compatible with Linux. What a game changer compared to the Windows environment. Should have done it years ago. Great processing Speed. plenty of ports (never enough though) and it just runs. This PC is Quite and produces no noise. I really like that it is so compact. Also, It pulls a whole lot less power than my old Desktop unit did. I think GeekOM could sell this for just a few dollars less if they didn't pre-install Windows. However, this is a good value for the upgrade I got. It was very easy to setup Linux, in fact, I tried a couple of versions of the operating system before I chose what I did. If I later change my mind, it is a simple install process again. I highly recommend this GeekOM over others due to the features that it has for the money. ... show more

Update 3/2026: While I'm completely happy still with my Geekom A8 Ryzen 7 8745HS, please note as you read my review below that the spec has changed since my purchase. Presumably because of the RAMpocolypse, this mini-PC is now populated with a single stick of 16GB non-LPDDR5 RAM rather than the two 16GB sticks of LPDDR5 when I made my purchase. While I understand the reasons for why Geekom has made this change, it will result in reduced performance. This performance reduction is not tied to the reduction in memory capacity as much as the fact that it is a single stick of memory. AMD processors benefit greatly from dual memory configurations, which this PC no longer comes with. It would have been less of an issue if they had used two 8GB sticks. Otherwise, everything else that follows is still accurate. I'm leaving this review as 5 stars because the PC I purchased deserves that rating. Original Review. I've been building desktop PC's for our family and friends since the '90s, but when replacing an aging family desktop, I decided to take a hard look at mini PC's. And Prime Days back in July seemed the perfect time. So, after two days of plowing through the offerings on Amazon from Minisforum, GEEKOM, GMKtec, Beelink, and ACEMAGIC, I decided on this GEEKOM A8 with the Ryzen 7 8745HS APU 32gb of storage, and 1TB drive. This PC will be used for web browsing, watching videos, word prcessing, doing taxes, photo editing, and maybe some casual gaming. I'm not looking to play heavy FPS games, CAD work, LLM generation, or intense video editing. In other words, it's a family computer. I have recommended Minisforum mini PC's to friends before and they've been very happy. In this space, as in buying a laptop or desktop, the brand isn't terribly important. You're (mostly) buying an Intel or AMD processor, laptop memory, and m.2 storage first and foremost. And this logic is borne out in the pricing pretty much. Faster processor, more memory, larger storage and the price goes up and vice versus; the pricing between brands with similar specs are very close (as long as you aren't talking "name brand" PCs). There are features outside of the basic components that can add to the price, too. For example the GEEKOM AX8 with the same processor, same 32gb of memory, and same 1TB of storage is roughly $100 more because it has more USB connections, an extra ethernet port, more memory upgrade headroom, and an aluminum case. Bottom line is that value scales with capability across the mini PC's that I shopped. This A8 was the right intersection of performance and price for me. Here was my logic: APU: The Ryzen 7 8745HS is virtually identical to the Ryzen 7 8845HS but without the NPU compute units. Will I miss the NPU capability? I am guessing no because it was only a token amount of AI capability, not even enough to reach Microsoft's threshold for a Co-Pilot PC. The 8745HS has a slightly slower maximum frequency, (4.9 vs 5.1 Ghz) than the 8845HS, but same TDP and same 780M iGPU. And the 8745HS was quite a bit cheaper. 32GB of Ram: This is probably overkill for this type of PC. Not saying I'll never be glad I have 32GB vs 16GB, but I doubt there will be many times over the life of this computer where that extra RAM is needed. If I could have found this same A8 with 16GB for less money, I probably would have bought it. The memory is Micron DDR5 running at 5600MT. 1TB SSD: That's plenty of storage for my case. I could even have lived with 500/512GB. There is no second m.2 slot, so I can't add a drive, but connecting a second external drive or replacing with a larger drive is an option; one I doubt I'll ever need. The SSD is one I've never heard of, a Wodposit WPBSN4M8-1TTP, but seems to work fine. Connectivity: 1xUSB4 Type C, 1xUSB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C, 3xUSB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A, 2xHDMI 2.0, and one 2.5GB LAN are plenty for a PC like this. Both USB-C ports double as display ports, so you can effectively connect four monitors/TV's to this tiny little box. The generic-looking AMI UEFI bios has limited options, but given that this is essentially a notebook computer internally, that's not a big surprise. About the only thing you can adjust performance-wise is the fan profile. Speaking of that, temperatures seem to be pretty notebook-normal. It's not totally chill, but it doesn't run hot, and the fan only comes on occasionally. You will hear the fan when it runs, but only in a quiet room or if it was on a desk right in front of you (just like if this were a notebook computer). If this is a media server PC for your TV/home theater, you won't hear it while watching entertainment. Mini PC's are still something of a novelty. When you talk to someone looking for a new desktop replacement about them, they might look at you sideways. But, for most, they represent a good value, offering much more performance per dollar than either conventional desktops or notebook computers. They also excel as media servers and are a step up from Raspberry Pi's and other SOC computers. As for gaming, ones with a competent IGP like this one can certainly offer some performance and you can play games on them. But, honestly, at the price point of the GEEKOM A8, you'd be better served, IMO, getting a PS5 or an Xbox for gaming. All that out of the way, I am very impressed by the GEEKOM A8. Not only does has it performed flawlessly so far (three months as of this review), it is also exceptionally well balanced and put together. Packaging, instructions, warranty, are all in line with a quality product. There has been one firmware update since I bought it, and that went off without a hitch. this GEEKOM A5 2025 Edition Mini-PC definitely presents Quality: First, the box it came looks like it might last over 50 years. You might say “So what?”, but it was designed to give the purchaser a sense of quality before they even open the box. Inside the box, the GEEKOM A5 2025 Edition Mini PC speaks stylish quality with its gleaming metallic appearance; chrome edge along the top, and crisp airflow cutouts. Ports for just about any application (even USB Charging) are available on nearly every side; including a card reader slot. Plus has a Kensington security slot (If you gotta ask, you probably don’t use it). Inside the GEEKOM A5 (no tools needed) is space for extra M.2 SSD storage; both SATA-3 and NVMe. I effortlessly added a 1T NVMe. Also included is a sturdy VESA mount (Convenient for mounting on the back of a monitor or someplace else with a VESA standard). The preinstalled Windows 11 Pro was a bit of a challenge however. More challenging than other mini-PC with Windows “preinstalled”, which took only 10s of minutes. This install was an hour or so, with many trips to the Windows Update Server and slow reboots. I may mention that to GEEKOM when I review on their site. But now it’s fast, smooth and quiet, and more importantly it’s cool – just a couple of degrees F over ambient. Time will tell if I need the 90-day return or 3-Year Warranty Coverage. This GEEKOM A5/2025 mini-PC is a great value for the money; I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a mini-PC. ... show more

I have owned this mini PC for two months now. It has been a workhorse for me. I used it in a build with a GAEMS portable LCD screen/case that was made for a video game console. It has been a fabulous build. The computer is very fast and handles emulation with no sweat. I have been able to run current games and AAA games consistently at 60 FPS. Fortnite is a perfect example. The 780M video output is great. I assigned it 8GB of the 32GB DDR5 shared ram and I have had no problems running anything that I want. My biggest complaint that you also need to be aware of is that it only has one slot for an NVME drive. I connected a USB-C external drive and it is easily fast enough to run games off of. I would have preferred to have the 2nd internal drive available which is pretty much an industry standard for almost all computers - even mini PCs. Even at full speed, the computer fan runs very quiet. If I had to purchase another computer, I would pay more attention to the expandability of the hard drive space. I would definitely want that second slot. Otherwise, this computer has been excellent for my needs. ... show more

This is my first mini pc. I researched obsessively for months before pulling the trigger. Previously I had an HP all-in-one and I also have a laptop but both are elderly and of course have old technology, very few ports, sketchy spotty Bluetooth, etc. and it was starting to cause issues with connectivity for work. I really wanted to upgrade my monitors as well. The A5 is a good compromise between power, performance, and price. It's perfectly suited to my needs. I work from home mostly and use Zoom, Teams, Jabber, and need to remotely access my office desktop from home. I need to have multiple monitors for presentations and providing trainings. I also use it for streaming, online shopping, and light gaming (think Animal Crossing and Sims) but nothing too strenuous. I can have multiple browsers open with multiple tabs running on each and it doesn't skip a beat. I was able to add two 4k monitors and it's a huge improvement visually as well. I was able to ditch the hub I had to use previously to connect all my devices because this mini is absolutely loaded with different types of ports. The Bluetooth works perfectly. It has an audio jack so I can listen to HD lossless tunes. It doesn't hurt that it's pink either - I got matching pink monitors and keyboard/mouse which makes me absurdly happy. Also, I like the fact that Geekom has a 3 year manufacturer warranty because it shows that they stand behind their products. It's fast enough - far faster than my old setup - and at a great price point that fits most budgets. I used the included vesa mount and installed it on the back of one of my new monitors. If you have limited space and are on a budget but need a perfectly competent workstation or home computer (or both) then definitely consider this compact mini A5. This is the second mini PC I’ve purchased to run lasers in my shop. I didn’t know for sure what I was buying when I purchased the first one but I knew with this one. I can’t tell the difference between it and a new laptop that I have other than it boots up much faster. It’s been compatible with all the software I use for laser work, it has more than enough connection ports, it works perfectly with my WiFi and Bluetooth devices and attaches to the back of the monitor. It’s also quiet. The first one was a little loud as it worked but this one is much quieter. In addition to the machines it controls, I also use it for internet and mail without any problems. Don’t let the small size of these minicomputers fool you. They are very capable machines and all that will be on your desk is a monitor, mouse and keyboard.
