Just received my unit and had it up and running in 20 minutes. Very good for what I need. I have a 12' by 18' office that gets a lot of sun. This unit keeps it at my desired temperature with ease. I like the remote control, and the auto shut off and on feature. I don't expect the side curtains to last more than a year or two, but they are easily replaced with more durable inserts. The unit is a little louder than I thought it would be given the reviews, but you can lower the speed and reduce the sound. All in all, good value for my money. We bought this for our utility room which is a separate room from the house. Here in Florida that room turned into a sauna everyday! So we finally bought this air conditioner, and so far it works great. If that changes, I will rewrite this review. So if you are reading it now, it is still valid. It worked right out of the box, and really pumps out the cold air! Within a few minutes the 12x12 ft room is very cool. I wouldn't call it quiet, but I wouldn't call it noisy either. Like most air conditioners it does have some noise to it. It has a thermostat that works, and it has various speeds, and you can choose to use just the fan or the cool air. I ordered the GE Window Air Conditioner Unit, 6,000 BTU for Small Rooms up to 250 sq ft, and unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. When I received the AC and opened the package, I noticed some leakage. The left side and the back of the unit had liquid on the surface — it wasn’t water, and it made me concerned. The packaging itself was intact, so I suspect the AC was kept upside down during transportation, which may have caused the issue. Despite the initial concern, I went ahead with the installation using the included kit. However, after turning the AC on and letting it run for 2-3 hours, the room did not cool at all. The air coming out of the unit was not cool, which defeats the purpose of having an air conditioner. Overall, I expected better quality control from GE, and this experience has been frustrating. Very effective air conditioner cool off 300 ft area quite nicely quiet efficient easy to care for I do recommend taking it out and storing it properly and making sure to clean the filters for winter and put it on top of something absorbent because I found that there was water head accumulating inside the case ... show more

This window AC is a fantastic find for the price! It's incredibly quiet, and perfect for a bedroom. For me, it's been a game-changer in my home office. I'm on calls all day, and not a single person has mentioned hearing it, which was a constant issue with my old unit. Performance wise, it cools my office down in no time and holds the set temperature perfectly. It can quickly be set with the included remote, however I do wish the remote had a screen of it's own. It was super easy to install though! The only small annoyance is the washable filter. While it slides out from the side, getting it back in is a challenge. It always seems to catch on something near the end of the track, causing the filter to bend if you're not careful. The media could not be loaded. Bought over a month ago. Been in Use finally for 2wks now. (So past the 30 day return window so that's my fault) Not too happy. Doesn't cool very well. It struggles like a 5000btu even though it's a 6000btu (12x11 room) It's loud like a box fan on high+ but the fan blow function itself is pretty weak (have to keep bedroom door completely closed and takes a while to "cool" room, not cold) it makes a "ringing in the ear sound" when cool function on that's annoying, the Styrofoam sounds like it's crackling with water drip sounds (not too loud but there) . It takes a few minutes to get the cool function to start. 2x already it ran for about an hour and didn't kick on. Realized when still sweating so Had to turn off n turn back on to get to work. I dont know if I got a fluke or this is just a bad model. I've only owned GE a/c. These last 2 I bought off Amazon, the first didn't last. 2nd summer it just didn't turn on and now this one. Is it just the ones on Amazon or is GE really starting to go downhill? I may just go to the store for next one after this is paid off. It's a 2 star but Gave it 3 stars more for ear c of purchase, price, delivery and payment plan options. Update: don't do it ... show more
