  • First impressions on this unit on a hot summer day
Size: 12200 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
Received and installed: Installation took about an hour and a half but I did it alone. Being very careful when carrying it etc. Manufacturer recommends 2 hours of letting it sit after installation in order for the compressor oil settle, although most people online say 8-24 hours. You’ll definitely need a level, screwdriver, knife to cut foam or large scissors, measuring tape. The pros so far: I have a window still! I can look outside without it blocking the view. Installation wasn’t bad just take your time with the measurements of the window sizing and cutting foam pieces. It cools very quickly and it has a beast of a fan. Cons so far: There is a small issue with vibration, that being said I think if you apply some rubber stick on pads to the exterior mounting screws it’ll remove a lot of that extra vibration. The vibration only occurs when the compressor kicks on, then as it slows down it vibrates less. The fan inside is very quiet on lower speeds. There is a water pump that pumps the condensation outside. The few times it kicks in is pretty loud, so if you’re extremely sensitive to noises this unit might not be for you. But compared to regular box window AC units this is definitely quieter overall. — Overall: It seems well built and the components feel of good quality, will have to report back as time goes on as far as longevity and quality. When I have to take it out for storage during winter it says to empty the water so that it doesn’t freeze. The foam pieces do come off easily for storage and re-use but you have to cut them accordingly. Clean the filter screens regularly, this unit has two filters front and back. I would also empty the water from the front when cleaning filters to avoid stagnating water and potentially mold. FYI: If you end up having to move the unit to another window you’ll have to order a $50 kit from GE with the foam so that you can cut to size again. I’m happy with the purchase because the biggest thing for me is how well it cools and that the window remains visible. ... show more

  • Updated: blows mildew smell; never connects to the WiFi
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
The media could not be loaded. Update again: he filter light and Wi-Fi light continue to flash. Two days ago, my husband cleaned the filter and drained every last drop of water out of the air conditioner. It is still flashing and blows air that smells of mildew. It is disgusting. We are going to Lowe’s tomorrow to buy a replacement of a completely different brand. I plan on smashing this with a sledgehammer when we return home. This update should have been written last summer, but it is worse now, so I will give the history. As others have stated, the lowest temp you can select is 64. That does not mean the you will get your bedroom within 5 degrees of this requested temperature. High/Cool is actually nothing more than a fan. The compressor does not kick on. To get the compressor I turn on, you have to change the setting from Cool to Dry. Now you are removing the humidity, but it was spring and not even humid. I just wanted cold air! When you switch the Cool mode to Dry, and leave the fan speed on high - not touching it…it automatically goes into a low fan speed but the instrument panel still says it is high speed. At first it would turn off by itself in the middle of the night and you would wake up in a puddle of sweat and the air being very muggy. You get up, turn it back on, but the room never cools off. Setting up a service call was so hard to figure out. You are directed to go into the GE website and request service. There was only 1 place on the website in our area. We live right between DC and Richmond, but there was only 1 service company???!!!! I scheduled the appointment and received confirmation but it was still 2 weeks out. The guy never showed! When I went back to the website to see if I had put the wrong date on my calendar, there was a final statement input by THE SERVICE COMPANY that never showed up saying “appointment cancelled by customer “. WTH?!!!!!! At that point, my warranty literally had expired 2 days prior. I can’t stand this thing. I want to beat it into a million pieces with a sledge hammer, pack it up and send it to GE HQ. I still am receiving emails that my warranty has expired and to take out a service plan. Good luck getting someone out to even look at it. Decided to conserve energy at night. There is no reason to have the heat pump run all night to cool the house to 68 degrees for sleeping. This unit is quiet, has an eco setting so the compressor will kick on and off. My Great Pyrenees wants to sleep in our room now that it is a lot colder! I am so happy that the temperature is more regulated too - no hot spots! ... show more

  • Best version of a window AC!
Size: 10300 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
This is definitely the best version of a window air conditioner! It’s nice and quiet, runs consistently so it’s a pretty even amount of noise all the time, and it can cool our primary bedroom effectively. The installation was a little cumbersome but the instructions were clear and the hard foam side panels seal against the outside way better than the plastic accordion solutions other units have. And most importantly, it blows the cold air up instead of out, which makes it much more comfortable to be around. It’s definitely loud from the outside but I can’t complain much. ... show more

  • Great little window ac!
Size: 6100 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
So far I like it. Install was fairly easy, and it blows really cold air. A lot of people said it was loud but it is actually very quiet. I like the low profile as no one can see it from the streer as a low hedge covers it. It cools of the 200 sq. ft room in about 5 minutes. The thermostat is accurate as I have measured it; shuts off after reaching temperature. There's really nothing yet I don't like about it. ... show more
