  • This thing blows COLD
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
I have a sliding window, and while there are AC units that are catered to sliding windows, they are priced a bit high for my liking and are really bulky looking and somewhat of an eyesore from the outside, While this of course is a window unit that'll have a bit sticking outside its somewhat of a low profile compared to others. And you dont have to screw anything in!, and adapting it to my sliding window, It was just a little run to home depot for some wood to cut to my window and its acts like a very good thermal barrier, and the box contains the foam sealing that was more than enough for what I needed that I slapped onto the wood I cut. While this thing isn't exactly light. You could feasibly install it by yourself if you have decent enough strength. Its far easier with two people though. In terms of how good it is, Its really -really- good. Very quiet for the inside, the noise is comparable to if you have a fan running in your room type of quiet for that white noise for those who need it when they sleep like myself, so that was a bonus. This thing cools my bedroom super quick even on the quiet mode which is the low fan, to the 68 degrees I set it to even when its 95 F+ outside. I will say that the high speed is quite loud to be expected but unless your cooling a garage or big room you'll never need to switch it to that if your just in a bedroom I reckon. If I ever needed another window unit in the future I will be buying this thing again. Highly Recommend! ... show more

  • Updated: blows mildew smell; never connects to the WiFi
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
Update again: he filter light and Wi-Fi light continue to flash. Two days ago, my husband cleaned the filter and drained every last drop of water out of the air conditioner. It is still flashing and blows air that smells of mildew. It is disgusting. We are going to Lowe’s tomorrow to buy a replacement of a completely different brand. I plan on smashing this with a sledgehammer when we return home. This update should have been written last summer, but it is worse now, so I will give the history. As others have stated, the lowest temp you can select is 64. That does not mean the you will get your bedroom within 5 degrees of this requested temperature. High/Cool is actually nothing more than a fan. The compressor does not kick on. To get the compressor I turn on, you have to change the setting from Cool to Dry. Now you are removing the humidity, but it was spring and not even humid. I just wanted cold air! When you switch the Cool mode to Dry, and leave the fan speed on high - not touching it…it automatically goes into a low fan speed but the instrument panel still says it is high speed. At first it would turn off by itself in the middle of the night and you would wake up in a puddle of sweat and the air being very muggy. You get up, turn it back on, but the room never cools off. Setting up a service call was so hard to figure out. You are directed to go into the GE website and request service. There was only 1 place on the website in our area. We live right between DC and Richmond, but there was only 1 service company???!!!! I scheduled the appointment and received confirmation but it was still 2 weeks out. The guy never showed! When I went back to the website to see if I had put the wrong date on my calendar, there was a final statement input by THE SERVICE COMPANY that never showed up saying “appointment cancelled by customer “. WTH?!!!!!! At that point, my warranty literally had expired 2 days prior. I can’t stand this thing. I want to beat it into a million pieces with a sledge hammer, pack it up and send it to GE HQ. I still am receiving emails that my warranty has expired and to take out a service plan. Good luck getting someone out to even look at it. Decided to conserve energy at night. There is no reason to have the heat pump run all night to cool the house to 68 degrees for sleeping. This unit is quiet, has an eco setting so the compressor will kick on and off. My Great Pyrenees wants to sleep in our room now that it is a lot colder! I am so happy that the temperature is more regulated too - no hot spots! ... show more

  • non stop for two months great unit
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
So far this window unit is the big time boss of window units. It is silent and works great. Cools the 12 x 12 room very fast. Best of all it fits easy in to the window seal and you can still use your window to look out. GE did a good job with this design. Worth every penny. Has been working almost non stop for two months now. Not one issue. Will by another one for the other upstairs bed room soon. Was a great purchase and great deal. ... show more

  • Fantastic Machine
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
I ordered this. It came, it worked well and then the water pump broke. So draining water from the inside to the outside stopped. Theres basically no videos on this issue online so I figured I got a lemon, and returned it. Ordered it again and it has been FANTASTIC. it is very very easy to install, you do need 2 people. But as soon as it is sitting in place, plug it in and it immediately works like a charm. Here in Texas we were sitting around 110 outside with 25% humidity. The air blowing on the max cool setting on the inside comes out at 48. It blows colder, when the outside temp isn't as horrible. I got the app and love using the app. You can control all functions of the unit from the app and it tells you electricity usage. I also like the app because I can turn it on max cool as I'm leaving for work and get home to a chilled house. You can also make your own preset setting on the app which is nice to simply have one click options depending on your need. The function of the unit is very quiet both inside and outside the house. In addition to the app it comes with a remote that works well too. The saddle design allows for you to use 98% of the visible part of the window still. The foam it comes with to sit on and block the sides of the walls was very easy to install. Overall I strongly reccomend this unit. It blows ice cold when needed and it's features are ideal for any specific setting you want it at. Note however this is my first and only experience with a window unit. ... show more

  • Product should be discontinued
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
(Note, the video shows the unit inside the house. I understand the compressor is going to be loud, but the rattling noise was amplified through the window when fully installed.) I purchased this unit twice. I had high hopes. So the first unit I got, and I was excited to set up, so I went through the process of installing it in the window and by the time it was done, I plugged it into the outlet only to find out that it had a short circuit and it would flip my circuit breaker. I proved this using a multimeter on continuity mode. But I decided to give the product another chance so I returned it and ordered a new one. I made sure to check for any short circuits before I even took it out of the box which thankfully no short circuits I installed it. It went OK and it was running for 5 to 10 minutes pretty well after that time had passed it started getting extremely loud out of nowhere. I then had to remove it out of the window to diagnose why there was a bunch of rattling. At the same time as I was removing it, a bunch of water spilled everywhere from the bottom of the front section of the unit. Long story short, this unit was extremely loud. There was only one way to silence it and I had to put my hand on it with some pressure in order to dampen the vibrating sounds the design of this AC window. Unit is nice aesthetically, but it’s terrible practically they don’t give you any ways to dampen the sound. After two failed purchases, I’m returning the second one and I highly recommend anyone who’s reading this to avoid this product. It’s a waste of time. Some reviews might sound good. That could be because the quality was initially good but now the consistency of at least the 8300 BTU unit is terrible. I will not be purchasing from this company again. ... show more

  • Great AC Overall — Quiet, Efficient, and Easy to Control
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
This AC unit has been a great addition to my space. The cooling performance is excellent, and I’m especially impressed by how amazingly quiet it runs. Once it’s on, it just fades into the background, which is a huge plus for sleeping or working. The phone app works great, too — super convenient for adjusting settings without having to get up. It connects easily and responds quickly. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the pump noise when it drains water. It’s definitely loud at first and can catch you off guard. But after a little time, you get used to it and it doesn’t make you jump anymore. Overall, it’s a solid, efficient AC with great features and very quiet operation. I’m happy with it and would recommend it. ... show more

  • FOR THE WIN!!!
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
I am absolutely thrilled with this air conditioner! I had purchased a 10,000 BTU portable unit for my 12' x 16' wood workshop which turned out to be a complete waste of $300 as it did nothing to cool the shop, even after a full dropped ceiling and insulating procedure. I tend to be a GE fan (ironic because I used to work for Electrolux/Frigidaire as a performance test technician where I hated to competitive test GE products because they rated so highly!) so I leaned toward the brand when shopping anyway. I have a very tiny single window in my shop (23" x 26") so I was afraid I would not be able to fit a large enough window unit for the space, hence the portable unit mistake. I also didn't have power available for a split system and didn't want the expense or hassle of a through wall unit. This was the largest window unit I could find that would fit the window, and was interested in how the saddle design would work, so I took a chance. Installed the unit this morning with the wife, took all of 30 minutes. It was 30 sweaty minutes, however, as it was 89°F in the shop during the installation. Installation was extremely easy...the manual and GE's install video were clear and spot on. I also thought it great that I had to buy nothing else, everything needed was included, and no external brace or housing necessary. Mounting was extremely solid and leveling was quick and easy. Now for the important part: Performance. Unit was verrry quiet, even running wide open in high fan/cool mode. I added the large piece of buffer stripping supplied behind the fan portion prior to installing even though I technically didn't need to per the instructions, but I figured the reduction in vibration couldn't hurt considering some negative reviews on this aspect. There was zero vibration noted during operation. I suspect people who experienced this likely did not apply enough tension to the hold down struts outside. Louver adjustment allowed aiming the air flow at the top part of the opposite wall, which I wanted. Outlet air was strong and 45°F. Frosty! I set the unit at its minimum 64°F high fan/cool setting and went back up to the house to cool off. One hour later it was 66°F in the shop (brr!) even with +90°F outside. So happy after all the hard, hot work and expense insulating that this 8,300 BTU unit is more than sufficient. My only complaint is the display and switch position indicating lights are way too dim and very hard to see with the sunlight pouring through the adjacent window. Buy this...highly recommend. Price is a fantastic value for the obvious quality, brand reputation and performance delivered. ... show more

  • Rattles and remote turns on television. Seems to cool well though.
Size: 8300 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
Edit: My husband figured out the rattling. There is a flimsy plastic screen behind the front cover and one smaller one on the back. We removed those and the rattling is gone. Should the screens be there? Probably. Will we put them back? Not unless I want to fall asleep to the calming sound of a meat grinder. We'll just have to clean it out a little more frequently. It actually runs pretty quietly now. Leaving at 3 stars though because the remote still turns on my tv. Shipping was fine. Installation definitely more cumbersome than a regular window unit. There's an annoying rattling when the compressor is running. Sounds like an old refrigerator running. I'm disappointed by that. It seems to cool well, however, when we hit the power button on the remote it also turns on our tv. Hmmm... I don't know if I'd buy another one. ... show more
