This is a really quiet dehumidifier that pulls a lot of moisture out of our cellar. It replaced an older dehumidifier that was starting to squeal due to a bad fan motor bearing. Setup is easy; pull it out of the box, take the set of four casters out of the water hopper, push them into the holes in the bottom of the dehumidifier, plug it in and hit the button. Note that if it's been laid over during shipping it should be set upright for at least 2 hours before starting per the instructions. I left it overnight to be sure, and it started up and purred like a kitten. The water hopper has a built in handle that makes it easy to empty, and the capacity though on the small side makes it light enough so you don't have to struggle with the weight of a full hopper. It also has a hose connection on the left side for gravity draining into a condensate pump, sink, or a floor drain. The unit has a filter monitor that lets you know when it needs to be cleaned. The buttons are easy to understand and intuitive, and I like the Smart Dry feature. It runs as needed to control humidity instead of running 24/7. It's easy to set by pressing the up or down arrow buttons, and after a short time it flips and shows the room humidity. We keep a humidity monitor in the cellar, and it was lower than the displayed 55% it defaulted to at start up, so it was set at 45% and went to work. Within 2 hours it had dropped the humidity in the 860 square foot area by 3% on the monitor and filled the hopper pretty quickly. Once the humidity had stabilized it runs as needed and controls the humidity within about 2% of the setpoint. I'm impressed at how quietly this runs, and it's working well so it deserves a 5 star rating. It's a nice unit. ... show more

This powerful dehumidifier is a solid choice for large spaces and excels at quickly reducing moisture and humidity. I purchased it to replace an aging (but still functional) GE unit in my basement and was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful upgrades GE has made. One standout improvement is the repositioned filter—now located on the back, making it far easier to access than older front-loaded designs. You can set a target humidity level, and the unit will automatically cycle on and off to maintain it. The noise level is noticeable but not disruptive, and the adjustable fan speed gives you some control over sound output when needed. Drainage options are flexible: you can connect a hose for continuous draining or use the built-in reservoir. The unit alerts you when it needs to be emptied, including via app notifications. Speaking of the app—this is where things get a bit tricky. Make sure to download the SmartHQ app (not GE Connect), as the instructions aren’t very clear on this point. Once installed, setup was straightforward, and Bluetooth pairing to my 2G network went smoothly. However, the app occasionally misreports the device status (saying it’s off when it’s clearly running), and I had to force close it multiple times to reset functionality. It’s a useful tool when it works, offering remote control of fan speed, humidity settings, and energy usage stats—but I wouldn’t rely on it exclusively.     • Amazing product! Works so fast.

This thing works amazing!!! My husband works for a minor league hockey team and was complaining about how their locker room gets so humid and has issues because it's an old building and not ventilated well, so between trying to dry equipment and the steam from showers, it just has nowhere to go. So this coming up in my recommended products the same day really was serendipitous! It holds 35 pints so it does have a pretty high capacity and would be great for most homes or basements. He said that he had to empty the tank out a few times within the first couple of hours of running it, and was really blown away by how great and how fast it started working! It has an alarm to alert you when you need to empty the tank out, which is great to ensure that you don't overflow the machine. The setup is super simple and really fast. The machine has a simple design so it's easy to kind of hide it out of the way, and the sound is not so loud that it's overbearing by any means. This product really is an exceptional value for the money and is perfect for older homes or basements where it can be difficult to get rid of the humidity or excess moisture. GE is a brand that I know I can trust and is known for making high quality products. So I really wasn't too surprised that it would work great, but it worked so great I was even more pleasantly surprised! ... show more

WOW!!!! GAME CHANGER! Let me start by saying this: there was zero assembly required. I literally pulled it out of the box, plugged it in, and it went straight to work. When I first turned it on, the humidity in my bathroom registered at 60%. I set it on low, took a bath, and afterward it had dropped all the way down to 35%. That alone sold me. There’s a faint “new machine” smell when it’s running, and the sound is a muted-loud hum (present but not annoying). Just pour the water into the tub when done! The video I posted shows exactly what to expect. Why I Needed This: We bought our home from the previous owners and quickly discovered a humidity problem: mildew was forming on the bathroom ceiling and upper walls. We installed new slider windows and replaced the fan… but the mildew still returned. When a room sits at 60% humidity even after 12 hours of no use, you know you’re fighting a losing battle without the right tool. This dehumidifier instantly made a difference. What I Love: Wheels: So easy to roll and reposition. Design: Sleek, modern, and looks like a quality GE appliance.
