  • Saved Our Kitchen Cabinets & House Interior After Broken Water Pipe
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
We recently had a household disaster after a water pipe broke under our house flooded the crawl space. Humidity rose to 78% in our house. We had four cabinets in the kitchen (solid oak) that the doors would no longer shut. The entire house was as risk of complications. We first placed an industrial fan under the house for airflow. Next, we set up this dehumidifier to run continuously in our kitchen with the water draining into the sink using the included small hose. It was very easy to set up following the clear instructions. This unit is large enough to get the job done! There's multiple choices of functions to meet a variety of needs. Great quality. Overall, very pleased. At first it ran non-stop. Then it started to cycle on and off as the environment improved. The entire house is now down to 45-50% humidity. We have yet to check under the house to see what that progress is, but we couldn't be happier that all our kitchen cabinets have recovered and now close properly. The sound is noticeable while we are in the living room but it is not overpowering. No trouble watching TV while it's running. I'm pretty sure this dehumidifier helped prevent thousands of dollars worth of damage had we not gotten the humidity down when we did. It more than paid for itself. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • 3 UNITS/ALL CHINA MADE GARBAGE
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
GE is not what it once was! This is China made junk! The 3rd unit in less than 2 yrs and all have had defective humidistats that read incorrectly causing the dehumidifier to either run nonstop or not turn on when it should. Also, all have had noisy vibrating plastic cabinets that are so loud they drive you insane. BTW, GE does NOT CARE one bit about these known issues. To GE: DO NOT REPLY TO THIS REVIEW WITH YOUR GENERIC RESPONSES LIKE YOU HAVE IN OTHER REVIEWS, DON’T EVEN BOTHER. ... show more

  • Works good, calculated cost of energy to run it
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
50-pint PUMP version – I have a 625 sq ft (or so) garage attached to my not so thermally efficient or environmentally sealed 45-year-old house. The garage relative humidity ranges between 60%-70% when it’s 90% outside in the winter, and I’m guessing the relative humidity is only lower because heat bleads into the garage from the house. I let this sit for 24 hours to ensure oil settles and then turned it on high with setting set to 45%, not really expecting it to reach that point. It did in 9 hours according to a data logger I put on the opposite side of the garage. After 24 hours, I must have poured about a gallon or so of water out of the bucket. Set to “Smart Dry” and it’s been maintaining near that 45% setpoint. Ran it for a week with a Kill-A-Watt measuring kWh and calculated a cost of about $45/mo electricity cost to run it in "smart mode" at $0.17/kWh + taxes, which is a bit much. ... show more

  • A lot of useful features in one unit
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
The built-in pump is the standout here because it gives more drainage options in basements and other damp spaces. Smart Dry and the 50-pint capacity also make this feel well suited to rooms that need regular moisture control. Just remember that room temperature and humidity will affect how much water it actually pulls. ... show more

  • Do better GE
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
I went with GE because it is a brand I trust. However, this was a disappointment. As soon as I activated the pump it was so loud that I could hear it 2 floors up from the basement. It ran for about 5 minutes and then stopped with error code P1. Tried troubleshooting- no luck. Now I get to haul all 60+ lbs of it to UPS to return. ... show more

  • Pump doesn’t work
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
Had my unit for 3 months filled with constant p1 error messages even after troubleshooting - hose/pump would not work. I registered the product with GE once I received the appliance and was informed of a 1 year warranty. Spent an hour with GE support who insisted all returns had to be handled through Amazon even though the standard return window with Amazon had elapsed. Horrible appliance and an even worse experience with their support team. ... show more

  • Convenience and features
Size: 50 Pint - Pump
So far wonderful product. Has the basement at 35% within two days. Awesome. The comfort level is perfect. Highly recommend GE. Have not used the pump feature or hose attachment though, just emptied the buck three times - that was it and taken care of my concern.
