The GE 18" Under Cabinet Light was just what was needed to light up a dark corner on my kitchen counter. The light is a bright 800 lumens, equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb. Mounting the light under the cabinet wasn't difficult. I decided to not drill holes into my cabinet using the provided screws. Instead, I used Velcro. I cut the Velcro into two pieces (a total of four pieces, one set for each side of the light). I placed the Velcro on the ends of the light where it doesn't get hot. I then placed the first piece of Velcro with adhesive side down onto the light. I placed the other half of the Velcro on top of the first piece of Velcro with the adhesive side up. I removed the adhesive plastic cover and pressed the light onto the bottom of the cabinet. Works great, and no holes. I used plastic clips to snake the power cord around the edge of the cabinet and secured the clips with push pins. They can't be seen. All that can be seen of the power cord is what goes to the outlet. This was the perfect solution for the dark counter space. ... show more

Loving this light -- easy install with just the star screwdriver of my pocket knife in minutes. It's a lovely warm yellowy white and so bright my dad is actually complaining about glare -- but my parents like things creepily dark so take his complaint with a grain of salt. We are using it as a hallway light, not an under-cabinet light so that may be a reason. I hooked it up to an existing digital timer and it all works just fine. I am replacing under cabinet lights in preparation for a move. I like my old ones better but they don't make them anymore. This GE fixture is just fine. It was easy to get going except that the directions refer to "input port" but don't tell you which end is the input port. Turns out it is the end with the switch. I have the 18 inch warm white. I was worried about the amount of light since the endpieces are 2" wide, so the actual light area is only 14" long, but this light is plenty bright. It is actually brighter than I would prefer, which is not something you normally hear me say. My previous light had 20.5" of actual light and was 700 lumens and I liked that better. I guess because it was slightly dimmer and spread out over a longer length, it was a gentler light but still plenty bright. My old light also had a dim setting which I used when I was not in the kitchen but wanted enough light to come in and out to get something. So obviously I liked my old lights better but at the price level I was willing to consider, this GE light does a good job. I used Command picture strips to hang them and Command cord organizer clips to manage the excess cord. ... show more

    • Nearly Perfect Light

Changed Review: Downgraded original 5 star Review to 4 stars: I changed my 5 star review to 4 stars, because I have discovered, after a couple of weeks since I installed the cabinet light, the little adhesive-backed clips that hold the cord tightly against the underside of the cabinet.... come unstuck. There are only 2 included with the light, they are exceedingly small to start with, and the cord is rather rigid, which puts a bit of stress on the clips. They aren't up to the task of staying put. I cleaned the underside of the cabinet with alcohol to make sure there was no slippery surface before I attached the tiny clips. Now I'll have to find and buy some other clips to keep the cord from dangling under the cabinet, which will add to the final cost of the light. A few pennies spent on better clips included with the light would have been a much better choice for the manufacturer. This little under cabinet light was just the size I needed, and...I still trust GE products more than a brand I've never heard of. ( FYI, everything seems to be made in China these days, including this GE, so my trust may be misplaced.) That said, other than the fact that this light was a bear to install with the included screws....for me at least....it's perfect. Contorting myself into a pretzel shape in order to attach this via screws under the cabinet proved to be too frustrating for me, so I resorted to attaching it with Command strips, which worked perfectly. I recommend that method of installation! I put 2 five pound strips on each end of the light, not because of the weight which is negligible, but solely for the "sticking security". One on each end would have probably been sufficient. Each end of the light is perfectly flat on the backside, and it was a breeze to install via the strips. I plan to order another one for a different cabinet. Having it plugged in will be SO much less costly than having to continually replace batteries, as I had to do with an older under-cabinet light. And, this light gives much more light than any battery powered light will. I am really happy with it. I called it 'nearly' perfect because of the frustrating attempt at attaching with screws, which was the only option that came with the light, but using the strips to attach it made it perfect. Updated several months later: The command strips ultimately failed to hold the light to the underside of the cabinet. I have temporarily resorted to packing tape, but next I'll try a strip of 'Outdoor Velcro" which I've used on my 4 X 4 wooden mailbox post to hold the metal address plaque.... to great success. ... show more

I bought these after moving into our new house and realizing there were some dark places, especially in the kitchen. I was not disappointed! They are low profile, LED, and come with everything you need. There's sticky clips for cord management, and the screws to mount them are actually already in the light fixture. It's as easy as holding them under the cabinet, screwing the screws in, and plugging them in. I bought 2 of these, and installed both in less than 10 minutes. They provide excellent lighting and work well as an evening light for ambiance and as a "night light". If you want a nice quality product that's simple to install, you can't go wrong getting these. This are the easiest under counter lights to install that I have ever purchased. They have the mounting screws all ready in place in the light fixture. I removed the screws and placed the lights where I wanted them and used an ice pick to make the pilot holes and then replaced the screws and tightened them to the cabinet. So easy. If you want a really bright light, this is for you. However, it is advertised as a "warm white" and my opinion, it's not warm.... It is daylight - light..... If you need to use the installation screws be prepared for only about 1/4 inch to go into wherever you are installing it.
