  • FAILED AT 3 MONTHS - DO NOT BUY
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
Short version: The Good: Unit worked, sort of, until it didn't. The Bad: Energy cost is high. Noticeable jump in monthly electric bill. The unit puts out a lot of heat. The Ugly: Unit failed at 3 months with the not repairable E6 error that many here have mentioned. Buy this unit at your own risk knowing that it is not whether this unit will fail, but when. Longer version: The Good: The unit worked. It definitely lowered the humidity level in my 2050 square foot house but not by much. I have two humidity sensors, one was a few feet away from the unit but around a corner on the other side of the wall, and another on the other side of a great room. The one on the other side of the great room never registered any humidity change. The one nearest the unit registered about a 5-6% drop. So, the unit did work, but, just not that well. It was however noticeable in how the house air felt. The Bad: In order to achieve that 5-6% reduction in measured humidity I had to set the unit to run continuously. The units humidity sensor and my home humidity sensor NEVER agreed, the unit would always read lower and shut off with no measurable change in the home sensor. With it running continuously it was able to achieve the minor 5-6% reduction. As a result of having to run the unit continuously, the energy usage cost was very noticeable. The first image in this review shows the jump in daily electricity usage that I downloaded from my electric company. From the time the unit was turned on it increased the daily usage by about 21 kWh per day. The second image concludes the same by looking at the difference in energy use from my bills with the unit on versus those from the previous year, about 24 kWh per day jump due to the unit. How much this costs depends on your providers rates, but for me it was over $100 per month in additional electrical usage with the last month of operation a whopping $188. Some of the additional cost was no doubt additional air conditioning use as this unit puts out a tremendous amount of heat. When I first started using it I had it in the master bath but it heated up the bathroom and bedroom to an unbearable temperature within a couple days so I moved it to where it ran until it died. The third image shows the measured bump up in humidity when the unit failed, roughly 50ish to roughly 55ish percent on 9/17/2024. The Ugly: The unit failed with the not repairable E6 error after just 3 months use, past the return time here. I was unable to reach GE via the online chat or by phone. Phone went to a full voice mail box. I did submit a message via the website and was contacted by GE by phone the next day. As others have noted the resolution is a rebate by mail. I have not yet received the rebate. I don't really want another one of these units so what I do will depend on the wording in the rebate paperwork. Buy this unit at your own risk knowing that it is not whether the unit will fail, but when. ... show more

  • Does a good job!
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
I have been using this dehumidifier all summer, and so far, I'm really happy with its performance. The best part, is that I do not have to dump the water out as this machine has a pump and comes with the tubing that installs in a snap. I ran the tube into a sink in my basement. So now, the machine empties itself. It's not very noisy, and I have it set on the 'smart' setting so it cycles on and off as the humidity level goes up and down. Hope it keeps up the good work! ... show more

  • Breaks Down - Garbage Warranty Process - Avoid GE!
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
It worked great for a while and kept our house at a comfortable humidity level. However, after a few months it made a loud rattle, threw an E6 error code, and shut down. The device is engineered to not be fixable, forcing you to buy a replacement. They are covering the replacement under the warranty, but you are forced to buy your replacement yourself and cover the taxes, shipping (if there is shipping cost), and interest if you have to buy the replacement on credit. Then after 6-8 weeks (per their "certificate of good will rebate") you will get a check reimbursement. With this moronic warranty process and the garbage quality of the dehumidifier not even lasting a year, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. ... show more

  • Will not last and can’t be easily repaired.
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
Do not buy a residential/consumer grade dehumidifier. We purchased September 2023. It is used only seasonally, for a few months during the summer. Today is June 2025 and it is no longer working, so it’s worked for less than a year total run time. The dehumidifier is showing an E6 error code which is a sensor or control board issue. There are only three parts available from GE to “repair” and these are a hose, water tank and filter, so the unit is planned to be thrown away not repaired. Very disappointed in the quality and durability, and lack of any option to repair. ... show more

  • Energy efficient dry air
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
We have ad this running continually for over a month in an unconditioned space, pumping water out and keeping the air dry in oppressive summer heat & humidity. The way the hose attachment works is different and superior from previous models. Included is a flexible line that pushes over the pump outlet. Previous lines were stiff and you had to pull out a tiny ring over the port to insert and remove. The flex line was a little too short but it's easy to jam the stiff line into the flexible one to get more distance. ... show more

  • A rock solid dehumidifier - This unit really dry's the air! Great value.
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
OH - No, the dreaded E6 Error Code. The unit started to turn off and flash the E6 Error Code. Located the purchase paperwork and receipt form from Amazon, and will be filing a warranty claim with GE. Not sure how it will shake out! I ordered this GE portable dehumidifier to supplement our house's AC. The unit has worked like a charm for one season. I am stunned at the amount of water the unit pulls from the air. We use the pump to drain the H2O into the washer's standpipe. The filters stay pretty clean, but we rinse them when the check filter light comes on. We use the smart dry "auto feature" all the time, and the unit automatically goes into standby when the humidity target is reached. Overall, it's a good value and appears to work well. My only negative is that it is louder than I expected. Not huge becase its the laundry room. But it could be an issue for anyone using it in a bedroom or an open floor plan house. ... show more

  • LUCK is what you need
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
I have two of these or should I say HAD 2. This one is still running strong at least 4 years now, i think. the other one....died in 6months. Humidistats go and won't remove water anymore. They are all a crapshoot now. better to buy cheapest and replace as necessary. Expensive doesn't last either.
