  • FAILED AT 3 MONTHS - DO NOT BUY
Size: 50 Pint with Pump Style: Smart Dry Technology
Short version: The Good: Unit worked, sort of, until it didn't. The Bad: Energy cost is high. Noticeable jump in monthly electric bill. The unit puts out a lot of heat. The Ugly: Unit failed at 3 months with the not repairable E6 error that many here have mentioned. Buy this unit at your own risk knowing that it is not whether this unit will fail, but when. Longer version: The Good: The unit worked. It definitely lowered the humidity level in my 2050 square foot house but not by much. I have two humidity sensors, one was a few feet away from the unit but around a corner on the other side of the wall, and another on the other side of a great room. The one on the other side of the great room never registered any humidity change. The one nearest the unit registered about a 5-6% drop. So, the unit did work, but, just not that well. It was however noticeable in how the house air felt. The Bad: In order to achieve that 5-6% reduction in measured humidity I had to set the unit to run continuously. The units humidity sensor and my home humidity sensor NEVER agreed, the unit would always read lower and shut off with no measurable change in the home sensor. With it running continuously it was able to achieve the minor 5-6% reduction. As a result of having to run the unit continuously, the energy usage cost was very noticeable. The first image in this review shows the jump in daily electricity usage that I downloaded from my electric company. From the time the unit was turned on it increased the daily usage by about 21 kWh per day. The second image concludes the same by looking at the difference in energy use from my bills with the unit on versus those from the previous year, about 24 kWh per day jump due to the unit. How much this costs depends on your providers rates, but for me it was over $100 per month in additional electrical usage with the last month of operation a whopping $188. Some of the additional cost was no doubt additional air conditioning use as this unit puts out a tremendous amount of heat. When I first started using it I had it in the master bath but it heated up the bathroom and bedroom to an unbearable temperature within a couple days so I moved it to where it ran until it died. The third image shows the measured bump up in humidity when the unit failed, roughly 50ish to roughly 55ish percent on 9/17/2024. The Ugly: The unit failed with the not repairable E6 error after just 3 months use, past the return time here. I was unable to reach GE via the online chat or by phone. Phone went to a full voice mail box. I did submit a message via the website and was contacted by GE by phone the next day. As others have noted the resolution is a rebate by mail. I have not yet received the rebate. I don't really want another one of these units so what I do will depend on the wording in the rebate paperwork. Buy this unit at your own risk knowing that it is not whether the unit will fail, but when. ... show more

  • Controlling the humidity in the whole house
Size: 50 Pint with WiFi Style: Smart Dry Technology
I’ve owned 2 Frigidaires and 1 GE, now this one. I love the smart functions/app connectivity. It also seems fairly quiet to the other dehumidifiers I’ve had. Seems quite efficient at getting humidity under control for my 1900sqft home.

  • Junk - Do Not Waste Your Money
Size: 50 Pint Style: Smart Dry Technology
Ok, first of all, we've owned 4 dehumidifiers in the past 25 years. I purchased this particular model for my mom. It arrived toward the end of April 2024. She did not get it set up for 2 weeks until we could get there to bring it into the basement and set it up. It worked for ~2.5months - then it died. The machine will light up when plugged in, but that is it. Dead. When my mom first told me it wasn't working I thought it was "operator error" :) but no, it was actually dead. I contacted Amazon and at first was told there was only a one month window to send it back. Well, I've owned enough dehumidifiers to know there is typically at least a 2 year warranty up to a 5 year warranty. So 30 days?! After speaking to a supervisor I was told that yes, I could return it for a full refund because I certainly don't want a replacement of this machine. Now I see I will be refunded the purchase price minus a "restocking fee" of I believe it is $54!! Well, it certainly cannot be "restocked" as it DOES NOT WORK!! I thought a GE product would be a decent machine but alas, it's not. I see other reviews on here with the same issue. We currently have a Frigidaire dehumidifier which has been excellent now for over 5 years. I will buy my mom a Frigidaire dehumidifier once my money is refunded MINUS the RESTOCKING FEE!! Unacceptable. I can say I've been buying on Amazon for a very long time and have had very few issues with my purchases and believe this is my only negative review - but I have to say look for a different dehumidifier if you're in the market. ... show more

  • So far, works very well in very humid basement. WiFi setup very easy, and great feature!
Size: 50 Pint with WiFi Style: Smart Dry Technology
My biggest complaint about this unit is that the app demands that I provide my location, and will not allow me to add the dehumidifier without allowing it. I am not sure why location is required to remotely monitor and control a dehumidifier, but it is for this app. I asked GE why, and received no response (yet). Other than that, the WiFi setup was very easy (after I relented and provided location access), and the features (including...and why I specifically bought this unit...the energy use and history in the app) work as advertised. It brought the humidity in my New England torrential rain for over a month basement from %80+ to around %65 in under a day. I am hoping to get it down to %50. My basement is about 1500sqft, and I now have two dehumidifiers in it. Obviously this one, and a hOmeLabs 1500, both in this basement space at opposite ends. The hOmeLabs by it self couldn't get the basement down to below %80. I have never been happy with that unit. I may buy a second one of this GE unit, though expensive, it's cheaper than getting mold! It was very well packed, and had no damage when it arrived. It's not very heavy. When unpacking, after you remove the 3 straps, the top of the box just pulls off the bottom. So, very easy to unpack and just get working. I've only had it a day, but it was setup and running in 5 minutes (at most), and is performing as (if not better than) I expected. It's not super quiet, but in a basement, this wasn't one of my concerns. ... show more
