  • Great price, works
Great price, had my eye on another "brand", but this one is the exact same one at a much lower price. Shipped quickly, packaging was neat and clean, product un-dented and un-mared. Has it's own packaging in a thick box with illustration and name of product, would be a great gift. This one also came with a black mesh sturdy bag around it though it is not pictured, I am very happy about this. Stainless steel is sturdy, would last a life time and even able to pass it down through family, I did the magnet test and it only sticks to the liquid fuel bowl, and nothing else. Light weight is good enough for what I use it for and would say worth the the extra ounces for the luxury. I love that it comes with a grill and I don't have to rig something. As is in pot cooking mode it does not hold a stanley cup-pot UNLESS you first place down the grill than it will hold anything, no need to change out your favorite pot. Works just like a solo stove. some say it eats a lot of wood, but if you want to use it as a mini campfire after cooking or want charcoal for roasting potato in the chamber, you could rig a wind guard that would close up the holes at the bottom a little bit for a slower burn, at which point it most likely would not go into gasified mode, but rather "mini campfire" or hobo stove mode. Gas canister fits easily into the chamber, and even has a dish for gel or heet type liquid fuel. I find using wood faster and easier to cook with than gas especially in a emergency situation. It works as intended and nests perfectly for storage, even has room for a few extras both in the stove and in the bag. I am happy to have this, I would buy again and would buy as a gift that will delight even car campers, fisherman, or any other out doors type person, male or female. ... show more

  • Great little backing / emergency stove.
Great fit and finish. Easy to use too, works well with either wood pellets or small dry wood chunks.

  • Cute stove, needs base plate under it
This is a versatile little camping stove, but you will have to find something non-flamable to set it on. Not sure why they don't include one more piece to prevent pine needles, roots, etc from catching fire.

  • Good little rocket stove.
Fits inside old copper bottom stainless pan and lid. Boiled about 2 cups water with two loads of sticks from yard. They were a little damp so it does work good. Only used paper and lighter to start the fire. Will take it out for a hike and lunch with my son.

  • Versatile stove.
Haven’t tried this with wood or pellets yet, but did a test with a Trangia alchohol stove. Filled the Trangia stove to just under the burner section with HEET (yellow bottle), inverted the fire box on the Gas One, lit the Trangia on top of it, topped that with the pot stand and used it to boil water. Perfect! The Trangia ran for 35 minutes, looking like my home stove burner the entire time (blue flame) and kept the water boiling. Will be using it with wood pellets this coming weekend as a tiny “s’mores” fire at a Cub Scout Campout, filling the fire box with pellets and lighting it from the top. Stove was very stable boiling water with a Coleman Peak1 cook set. Good value for the money! ... show more

  • Use it for what it is designed for.
This gasifier stove is primarily designed to burn wood, twigs, leaves and other fairly dry plant debris that are stood upright and packed into the combustion area. Unless you are burning seasoned twigs or explicitly dried materials, the stove will smoke some on ignition until the stainless side walls are heated enough to draw outside air through the bottom vents, preheat it, and send it through the holes of the secondary burner ring to afterburn the smoke rising from the fuel. This will help drive the remaining moisture out of the fuel turning it into wood gas and causing it to burn hotter and smoke less. Because there are holes in the bottom of the combustion pan for air to be drawn up through the bottom, vertically stacked twigs will obstruct these holes less than some other kinds of fuel, leading to a hotter fire with less smoke. You can also use wood pellets in this stove which will lead to a fairly hot fire, but remember that they will tend to obstruct the air holes in the bottom of the pan so you will need to use something metal to stir them to keep air from below feeding the fire properly. That said, you can also burn charcoal in this stove, but you will need to make sure that you get it really hot, really fast, using some other accelerant (like placing small pieces of charcoal on top center of an existing twig or pellet fire). Otherwise it will smoke excessively while it is heating up. The stove as designed cannot be used with any of these fuels on a flammable surface or one that can be damaged by heat. Embers will fall through the air holes in the pan and land on the surface underneath. It should be used on bare ground, or on a metal or ceramic surface. (No, don't try placing the alcohol burner pan under the combustion pan, all it will do is obstruct airflow.) There are also metal cans of Sterno or other chafing dish fuel that can be placed in the bottom of the combustion pan, in fact Gas One sells their own brand on their website and on Amazon. Flipping the combustion pan over with the bottom up will allow you to place the alcohol burner pan on top of it. You can then burn denatured alcohol or a fuel tab in the dish. The grill grate and the pot stand ring are interchangeable on the top. The pot stands can be folded out to hold a large pot, or can be folded in to hold a small camping mug or other container for heating liquids. The stove comes with a nice black mesh bag for storing it. After getting the ashes out of the stove, if you actually have to put it away dirty, the bag won't show it, and you can always wash the bag and stove in a sink with Dawn later. The stainless of the stove will discolor from heat immediately, but it gets a nice rainbow patina to it that is not completely unattractive. ... show more

  • Received partially used items
I bought 2 of these and both of them had used Pot Supporter parts with scorch marks and the other one had obvious signs of use. If this were to be a gift to someone it might be a problem. The main parts; Alcohol Plate, Grill, Stove Base Plate, Stove Chamber, Bottom Vents, appear to look new on both of them. Its not too much of a problem and I am still going to keep both of them because for the price of $16.99 it's a great value. Both of mine do not have the Gas One logo if that matters. They do come with a thicker black mesh bag. The stove appears to be pretty robust overall. The weakest part would probably be the Pot Supporter's 3 moving supports. ... show more
