  • The right tool once the yard gets real, and it takes salt without rusting out
Once your yard is around a half acre, spreading by hand or rigging something off the mower stops making sense. This is the right way to do it. You fill the hopper, set the flow, and tow it behind whatever you have, and a half acre of seed, fertilizer, or salt goes down even in a pass or two instead of an afternoon of shaking a hand spreader. The part that makes it a keeper is that it actually takes salt. The hopper is poly and the frame is powder-coated, so ice melt and salt do not rust it out the way they wreck a steel spreader or, worse, your mower, which was never built to throw salt in the first place. Rinse it out after a salt run and it is ready for fertilizer come spring. One tool, summer and winter. Is this the fanciest spreader? nope, is it affordable, yes, is it better than walking stuff off by hand? absolutely. The 10 inch pneumatic tires roll over a rough or soft lawn without digging in, and the flow control lets you dial the rate so you are not burning the grass with too heavy a pass. For the size yard where a hand spreader quits and a mower has no business throwing salt, this is the affordable right answer. Five stars. ... show more

  • Large capacity and reliable.
This tow behind spreader is well made and has a large capacity. It spreads consistently, and evenly and easily mounts to the back of my lawn tractor. I’m able to cover my lawn without needing to reload more than once and it’s so much easier than my old hand spreader. It’s a good price for a well made spreader. ... show more

  • Capable Tow-Behind Spreader with Good Capacity, Minor Fit and Control Considerations
This tow-behind broadcast spreader offers solid capacity and functionality for lawn care, fertilizer, and seasonal use. It handles large areas efficiently and connects easily to most lawn tractors or ATVs, though there are a few practical considerations with spread control and overall refinement. Build Quality / Materials: The poly hopper feels durable and resistant to corrosion, which is important for fertilizer and salt use. The steel frame is powder-coated and holds up well under typical outdoor conditions. The overall construction is appropriate for residential use. It is not commercial-grade, but it is more than adequate for routine property maintenance. Assembly: Assembly is manageable but not trivial. Expect to spend some time aligning components and tightening hardware. Instructions are usable but not particularly detailed, so some mechanical intuition helps. Once assembled, the unit feels stable and tracks well behind a mower or ATV. Performance: The spreader performs well across common materials like grass seed, fertilizer, and ice melt. Distribution is generally even when dialed in correctly, and the adjustable flow control allows for a reasonable range of spread patterns. That said, dialing in the correct setting can take some trial and error. The control mechanism works, but it is not highly precise. Maneuverability: The pneumatic tires are a strong point. They roll smoothly over uneven terrain, including grass and gravel, and help maintain consistent spreading. The tow-behind design makes it ideal for covering larger areas quickly, significantly reducing manual effort. Capacity / Use Case: The hopper size is well-suited for medium to large yards. It reduces the need for frequent refills, which is a noticeable advantage over smaller push spreaders. This is best used with a lawn tractor or ATV. It is not designed for small, tight spaces or precision work. Value: For the price, this offers good value in terms of capacity and efficiency. It is a practical upgrade from handheld or push spreaders if you are maintaining a larger property. Pros: • Large hopper reduces refill frequency • Durable poly construction resists corrosion • Pneumatic tires handle uneven terrain well • Efficient for medium to large properties • Compatible with most lawn tractors and ATVs Cons: • Flow control lacks fine precision • Assembly takes some time and effort • Not ideal for small or highly detailed areas • Build quality is good but not commercial-grade Bottom line: A reliable and efficient tow-behind spreader that makes lawn care easier for larger properties. While not highly refined in its controls, it delivers consistent results once properly adjusted and offers strong overall value for residential use. ... show more

  • Great for large areas
So far I've used this twice and I must say it's pretty nice considering it took a second to put together. what I like the most is probably the fact that I can change the amount of seed that's dispensed based on the distance traveled. what I will say is that what I like the least would be the rain tarp that comes with it as it does not have anything to hang on to therefore when you put it over the hopper you have to cinch it down and hope it doesn't shift. I think that is probably where the biggest Improvement could be had but overall I really like this and I've used it twice on my land. it is fairly sturdy and as a great job at dispensing seed whether that be corn seed or yard seed. if you're going to be receding a large patch or a field I certainly would consider this item despite the cost it is greatly worth it. ... show more

  • Highly recommend!!
My husband always uses a push spreader a few times a year. We have an acre and a quarter, so it becomes a daunting task. This Garvee tow-behind broadcast spreader looked like a better way to spread seed. The first thing we noticed is that it has a huge hopper. The assembly directions were lacking a bit of detail, but it was fairly easy to put together. It hooked up perfectly to our zero-turn mower. It has an adjustable spreader, spreads well, and turns easily. It also didn’t hop around while pulling at full speed. Overall, we are very happy with this broadcast spreader. It is good quality and looks like it will last a long time. Highly recommend!! ... show more
