For CHP cadets, you must have a boot that is smooth all over and that has a toe and heel that can be polished to a mirror shine. You basically have three options: these Rockys jump boots, Thorogood jump boots, and Danner Recon boots. The Danners are around three times the price of the other two; I have not tried them. The Thorogoods are quite sturdy, but they have THICK uppers that make them feel like they are constricting my movements. They also get hot quickly. These Rockys, however, are fantastic. They have much thinner uppers that feel much cooler and less constricting. For me, there was no break in period for these boots. Although they are heavy, they feel much lighter and easier to move around in than the Thorogoods. They have a nice soft insole, although I may still end up replacing it to make these boots feel even comfier. The only complaint I have about these boots is that they take a bit more effort to put on and take off. I have to pull a bit, though not excessively so. The zippers are nice, hefty YKK brand. The flap that covers the zipper leaves some to be desired, as it's secured by two snaps which take more dexterity than the Thorogoods which just use velcro. I imagine that with freezing cold fingers, the flaps would be quite difficult to secure. It's also worth noting that these boots seem to run half a size too large. Every pair of shoes and boots I own are 11's, but for these, a 10.5 fit much better. ... show more

Great quality boots. But the size was off. I ordered size 8 US and the boots were huge. Like size 10. I drowned in them. Had to return to get half size smaller then my regular size.

This is my second pair of these boots. They are worth the price and will last long enough to satisfy most people. The soles are Goodyear and can be replaced at your local boot shop. I found these on Amazon for the same price I paid years ago.

First time buyer of Rocky boots. I am very pleased with them about a month in. The toe comes pre shined, which I received a lot of compliments on. I didn’t have to polish them until a couple of times on duty. When I did, they shined right up as new. I have only tied them once, utilizing the zipper feature. I tuck my laces under the button flap on the side and they never come out or come loose. They didn’t take long to break in, and are very comfortable. They are fairly breathable, and I notice little to no foot sweat even though they don’t appear breathable. Structure seems well made, and will update if I have any issues. Would recommend for anyone working long hours, especially if you like a polished professional look! ... show more
