  • We love the Garvee brand! This air conditioner is compact, powerful, and easy to move on wheels. We love the Garvee brand! This air conditioner is compact, powerful, and easy to move on wheels.
We have lived in a house for the past 16 years without any air conditioning. Because we live in California in a home that does get the coastal breeze daily, we didn't really need to invest in a whole home air conditioner. We had maybe one week of unbearably hot weather 16 years ago. Over the years, however, we have had more and more days of unbearably hot weather and we finally decided to invest in a few single room air conditioner units. We chose this Garvee 8000 BTU portable air conditioner unit for the living room because that room gets the most heat in the whole house during especially hot weather. We wanted something that we could store when not in use, as well, since we only need this unit for a month or two a year. This unit is PERFECT for what we were looking for. We love how easy it is to install and how quiet it is when operating. Obviously there is a little noise but that is to be expected and it is a lot less noise than what we thought it would have. We have this unit in a living room so the remote control is not really necessary but it is very nice to have. When sitting on the couch it is easy just to turn the unit on or off and up or down without having to walk over to the air conditioning unit. So far the unit has performed beautifully and has kept the room at a comfortable temperature during the unbearably hot days we really needed some relief from. We also love the no drain self evaporation aspect of this portable air conditioner. This unit is very compact and on wheels so we can easily transfer it from room to room if needed and to storage between uses. It is wonderful. Our home has hookups for a whole home air conditioning unit, but we never purchased one and feel that having a couple single room air conditioners gives us better value for our money without wasting so much energy to cool the entire house. We definitely like this compromise much more and are so glad that we got this Garvee 8000 BTU portable AC unit with remote control. It is such an improvement during the days we need it most. We highly recommend this Garvee 8000 BTU portable air conditioner! We are so happy to have it and get some relief on those unbearably hot days! ... show more

  • Awesome, powerful, low maintenance AC!
I got this just two days before my main AC quit, and thank goodness because I live in Phoenix, Arizona, where it’s HOT all year long! Having no AC in the summer here can be dangerous. You can imagine my panic when the house started heating up right after the sun went down—I was so confused! Long story short, the AC was out, but luckily I had the new one that arrived two days earlier sitting in the garage. We grabbed it, and installation took literally 10 minutes. The only hiccup was that the vent tube on one side was slightly off track, so the plastic piece didn’t fit quite right. It ended up just barely fitting, enough to hold in place while positioned in my window, and immediately the air was ice cold with an awesome amount of airflow! The best part is that it’s an AC, not a swamp cooler, so it has freon, making it feel crisp and amazing! I’d say my living room is about 70 by 50 feet (very rough estimate). I set this up around 4 a.m., and by the time the sun came up and the heat started building, the house was nice and cool, and everyone was a lot less cranky! An AC tech came a few hours later and spent about four hours in and out, but we were so glad to have this in the living room even with the main door opening and closing constantly. It’s extremely quiet, ice cold right out of the box, low maintenance, and it truly saved me. I’m very happy I had this as a backup, and I feel 100x better knowing it’s there for the summer if anything happens again—or if a friend ends up in the same situation! 10/10 recommend! ... show more

  • Perfect for the Summer Heat
With the season's change upon us, its time for us to switch our thermostat from Heat to 'Please Cool me off, its 95 degrees outside'. This would be fine and dandy, save one thing; our upstairs room has no central heating. To make this worse, this room now serves as my office. In the Winter it would be fine. I could just toss on a jacket or sweat-pants and be good to go. For the Summer however, where I've clocked temps are high as 103 Fahrenheit before, not so much. This Garvee fan will be sure to offer relief though. Its already been broaching the 85 degree range despite still being spring, so its already been putting some work in for the past week. My previous recirculating fan has been retired, and Garvee has taken mantle of Cooling King. Setup it simple, plug it in, route the exhaust hose to the window and attach the sliding fit bracket to the window seal so it will stay in place. Voila, your boy is cool again. The remote is responsive for a simple IR thing. I've even been able to program a simple learning IR blaster to have it set to turn on/off in intervals when needed to precool the room for a couple minutes before I have to head up. Its a compact size, far smaller than the average mini-fridge and runs decently quiet, meaning work meeting calls are not disturbed. I can't think of a single thing to improve, and am more than happy. ... show more

  • Couldn’t be happier
I live in a 2 story house and the master bedroom gets the afternoon direct sunlight thru the windows, which of course means the heat. Even with central air it’s still a struggle to keep that room cool. This solves that problem nicely. I’ve had the unit for a couple months now but I live up north and I couldn’t test it out till this week when the snow finally melted and we got some warm, sunny days. I couldn’t be happier with the performance. Over the winter I added blackout curtains to the bedroom to help cut down on the heat this summer, and the combination of those curtains and this unit have made my bedroom really comfortable. It’s actually pleasant in the room now. It’s super easy to install and I was able to do it myself rather quickly. All you need is to be within range of an outside window to be able to vent the exhaust air out. The unit comes with everything you need to do that. I didn’t realize when I ordered it that it also is a dehumidifier, so that was a big plus! The noise level is less than the window unit I have been using, though of course it still makes noise. Very tolerable level though, and I’ve had no issues sleeping with it on. It’s actually white noise to me as it muffles any outside noise. The size is perfect for my good sized master bedroom. I have a second bedroom upstairs right across the hall, and I haven’t even been closing the door to the master bedroom and the unit has helped cool that room somewhat as well. I also have 2 fans running whenever I’m in the bedroom and that helps to move the cool air around. The remote control is very handy so I don’t have to get out of bed if I need to make adjustments during the night. I also really appreciate that the buttons on the unit itself are on the top of the machine and not the front or the side. So much easier to use them without having to bend over just to get to them. I’m very impressed with this unit and I’m certain that this summer will be much more pleasant upstairs than last summer was. I trust this brand completely and have purchased many different products from them and would certainly purchase another of these units if I needed to add another to my home. I completely recommend this! ... show more

  • Powerful portable cooling for a small space Powerful portable cooling for a small space
I live in an older home that’s been retrofitted with central air conditioning, except that air conditioning doesn’t cover every room in the house. One of the not-covered rooms is my little office downstairs, which makes working from home a miserable experience during the muggy summer months. So I thought a portable air conditioning unit could be the solution. This one has proven to be a success so far. Installation was easy enough; it took maybe ten minutes total, most of which we spent removing the unit from its box. Setting up the panel to allow the unit to vent out of the nearest window was very simple. The unit does a great job at getting the little office from “uncomfortably hot” to “pleasantly cool” in an impressively short amount of time. It does feel like the room is much more comfortable when the unit is in the process of cooling down to the set temperature, because the fan is blasting out nice cool air during that time. It then feels like once the thermostat detects that the desired temperature has been reached, the ambient temperature can creep up by what feels like quite a lot before the unit detects that it’s too warm and time to kick into cooling mode again. That said, I’m still getting used to the best settings to use, and if I feel too warm, I can use the remote or just reach out to the control panel and turn the fan up a notch or set the thermostat a degree or two lower. The unit is about as noisy as you’d expect - it sounds exactly like the smallish dehumidifiers I have in my basement and the tower fan I was using to keep cool in the office until I got this air conditioner. All of which is to say it’s not especially noisy other than the typical sound of a machine that’s moving air around. I much prefer this style of unit over the kind that sits in the window; it’s easy to move it between rooms as needed, and I don’t need to remove the window screens to use it. The design makes it compact enough to place it somewhere relatively unobtrusive, and the castors make it easy for one person to set it up and adjust its position as needed. I’m really pleased with the air conditioner overall, and so long as it keeps working this well, I’d say that it’s pretty good value in comparison with similar models. ... show more

  • Garvee 8000 BTUs Portable Air Conditioner Garvee 8000 BTUs Portable Air Conditioner
After years of suffering through the PNW heat waves we get, my husband and I decided that this was the year we are investing in portable air conditioners. After a lot of research, we decided that an 8,000 BTU machine would be fine for our smaller bedroom. I am always a fan of Garvee products and recently had the opportunity to order the Garvee 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner. Even though it’s not summer yet, my husband installed it today and it works great! It’s truly so great. It has plenty of bells and whistles like a remote Control 48dB Portable AC Unit, Dehumidifier, Fan, Sleep, 24H Timer & installation Kit, and DOE Certified. This can cover up to 250 square feet, so it works fine in our smaller kids bedroom but isn’t suitable for a larger space. This took my husband all of about 20 minutes to install and the window kit went almost to the very top of our tall slider window. It puts out plenty of cold air and has decent blowing power. I was happy with how it cooled the room. The remote control is so convenient and the entire thing is so easy to use. I love that this is self evaporating and has an easy to remove and clean filter for catching dust. This portable air conditioner is a fantastic one and well worth the investment for sleeping comfortably all summer long! The one downside is that this isn’t the nicest design aesthetically. It’s much more basic than our other portable air conditioners. It looks like the price has decreased substantially since we ordered ours, and I think it a lot less value at the price we paid compared to the much more reasonable price it's at now. ... show more

  • Keep Expectations Realistic, and this Unit Will Perform.
I’m fairly familiar with portable air conditioners like this. In the small business world, they’re often used to cool wiring closets or server rooms where a rack full of switches and physical servers can turn a small space into a sauna. The biggest thing to understand before buying one of these is ventilation. These units must exhaust hot air somewhere. Thankfully, this one includes the vent hose and a window kit. It works well for standard double-hung windows. Crank-open (casement) windows? That’s where you’ll need to get creative — and possibly introduce duct tape into the conversation. If you’re using this in an interior room with no window, you’ll need to build a path to the outside for the exhaust air. Without proper ventilation, performance will suffer. The control panel placement is excellent — it’s on the top of the unit. That sounds minor, but many portable ACs put controls on the front or side, forcing you to crouch down just to see what you’re doing. This is much more convenient. As for cooling power: 8000 BTU is appropriate for a small bedroom. If the room gets heavy direct sunlight, don’t expect miracles. It will help, but it may struggle to dramatically drop temperatures in high heat load conditions. For my use, it’s perfect. We have an upstairs guest bedroom that runs hot in the summer no matter how low the central AC is set. When my nieces visit, they wake up convinced they’ve spent the night on the surface of the Sun. This unit solves that problem nicely. It’s compact, portable, and does exactly what an 8000 BTU unit should do — no more, no less. Four stars. ... show more
