  • Barklimiter is life changing !! Barklimiter is life changing !!
Style: Collar & Handheld
Just purchased and placed on three of my most barky pups. This Garmin Tri-Tronics Sport Pro Dog, PRO 550 trainer with auto barker, "Barklimiter" is the best bark trainer !! And humane to our dogs ! hey seem fine wearing the collars and have had not false alarms. We had used Petrainer for a year with success, until a couple of our Bernese Mountains Dogs learned to override, ignore the anti-bark setting. I do like Petrainer, as a starter or as less sophisticated trainer for the less challenging pup. There was way to much unnecessary, nuisance barking by three of our five hounds... After research and a friend referring this bark-trainer collar, we spent the big bucks and also purchased the 2 additional collars. The setting for the no bark auto setting works perfectly, with no false stimulation (zaps). We place the collars on the pups at about 6 PM, as they get to play out back in the evening through the night. There was a lot of the problem barking, with some howling, accrued from their night/sleeping kennel dog house. Then I remove the collars during the day to give them a break. As the collars fit snug, I want to be sure there's some collar free time. I did change out the pins for the longer ones. Berners have two very thick furry coats. The assembly is a bit time consuming out of the box. You just need some quiet time to follow the through instructions in English, for me. Lots of parts and pieces. If you've installed a bark trainer before, I think it helps you understand where you're going in the assembly. The batteries have not had to be recharged yet. I assume they will last a while. As this trainer is very well engineered and well built with quality materials. Water resistant, haven't had that challenge with the collars. I trimmed the collars tails, plenty of length provided for the biggest pups. I've not switched back and forth using the remote to change setting, while the dogs are wearing the collars. I'm sure they will work well, too, as I tested the functions, when I placed the collars on the dogs. Maybe a bit cumbersome changing between the auto anti bark Continuous "Barklimiter" on, then off to use the Vibrate, Tone and light setting. I'm getting to know those settings. Then when you need to quickly reactivate the "Barklimiter". I'm still getting the hang of that. The first night, Boomer, my big male, somehow had the light on continuously in the backyard. He looked like a lit up Furry Christmas tree, until I figured out that I'd turned the light feature on. A great bright feature, if you need the night location of your pup. I do turn the collars off, when removed, to save the batteries. Then I get more practice learning how to use the remote, as it takes some practice to get the hang of operating it. The only downside is the pups don't bark at the deer coming in the yard or the UPS delivery guy. I promise you this bark trainer with "Barklimiter" will change you and your pups life for the better. An instant stress reducer ! First thing my husband said, when the "Barklimiter" worked, was YES !! ... show more

  • Remarkably versatile training device for your best friend
Style: Collar & Handheld
The three different alerts, Tone, then Vibe, then Shock are helpful. Using them in this order as you and your dog learn about the collar becomes intuitive and recognizable to the dog after only a short while. (7 to 14 days). My dog takes note of the tone and listens to audible commands. The vibe mode almost always causes him to return to me should the Tone not do so. And for those rare instances where tone and vibe do not get his attention, usually when another dog approaches, then the shock and an audible COME command will bring him back to my side. The variable intensity settings are helpful, 1 - 10. My dog responds well at setting 2. The light is also a great feature when walking evening or early morning. The collar should fit snug. Two fingers should fit very snugly under the collar. He should breathe and drink without restriction. And frequent swimming in a pond or the ocean has not affected the collar, and commands work as expected. My best friend is a 105 lb German Shepherd/Wolf hybrid and he does extremely well with the use of this collar. I can count on him to act appropriately even among multiple animals at the dog park. Get yourself a neck lanyard and take your dog anywhere, almost hands free. This is a wonderful collar training device!! ... show more

  • If you're looking for a well thought out training collar, look no further!
Style: Collar & Handheld
I have a Belgian Malinois, which can be a bit headstrong as a breed, but have hearts of gold - and slobber ; ) I have never used an external training device without testing it thoroughly on myself on ALL settings, which has saved my hairy friends from a few brands of non-visible fencing. That being said..... My initial impression of the collar was that it was solid feeling, but not heavy. The construction is robust and waterproof. The collar was designed smartly in that instead of a plug-in charging system where mud and water could cause damage and aggravation, it has 4 gold looking pads which align with the charger. It uses a clip-on charger that is smartly made. After a short 2 hour charge it was good to go, and I have found that it holds a charge for about 48 hours using tone, vibrate, and the LED lights at night. The collar has tone, vibrate, and varying degrees of stimulus if needed. I have the collar set to 6, which affects him visibly just a little more than vibrate (meaning he is looking at me for direction from the correction). I have found the vibrate function to be quite vigorous, getting his attention 90% of the time (when used with tone simultaneously) even when he's in 'turn and burn' mode (If you own a Malinois you get it) when he and the cat toy with each other. There is a bark inhibitor feature as well, with the ability to step up the stimulation automatically with the volume and frequency of the offending bark. I disabled that feature so I cannot comment as to its effectiveness. The only things I would change would be to move the LED lights to the front cover of the collar to make more effective use of them, and the ability to light all four corners on demand for extra brightness (it would come at a penalty to the length of the charge but would be handy just the same). I have to ask why Garmin wouldn't include the holster to clip it to ones belt given the price point (there wasn't even a wrist strap in the packaging which surprised me as I'm a GPS customer as well), as it would be easy to accidentally dial a higher setting and cause unwanted/overly harsh stimuli while in a pocket. You can add up to 2 extra training collars so as to be able to train 3 different dogs as well. There's a toggle switch and the programming can be customized between collars for larger or smaller dogs. I have no regrets with this purchase, and would recommend this product used with solid training techniques! This collar is well designed, with a neat LED light to either track the dog or aid their vision, but I found it makes a neat little light on walks at night. ... show more

  • Must-Have for Training Bird Dogs Must-Have for Training Bird Dogs
Style: Collar & Handheld
A must-have for training. I use this with my bird dogs in the field and it’s been a game changer. The one-hand operation is incredibly convenient, especially during active hunts, and the range and reliability are excellent. It’s durable, easy to use, and works exactly when you need it.

  • Almost Perfect!! Has helped my coonhounds adapt to neighborhood life
Style: Collar & Handheld
Overall very happy with this product. I'm about to buy a second collar for one of our other dogs who barks loudly while playing. This product almost gets 5 stars because it worked on a Bluetick Coonhound puppy!! We got it for the pup who at 4 months old started bawling nonstop on walks and in the yard. Although this behavior is breed-appropriate, we live in a neighborhood and were concerned about noise complaints. This product has helped us coach our bluetick and guide his vocalizing behavior. He's still allowed to be a bluetick, he can bawl to alert us, guard the house, etc, but it's not all the time anymore. My only complaint is that the automatic bark limiter goes off when my dog makes any kind of vocalization, and since I have coonhounds, this means I can't keep his collar on automatic because sometimes he growls a little or groans a little when he's playing or nesting and he's therefore been zapped at inappropriate times. Overall it has been wonderfully useful. I have overcome this one hiccup by playing an active role in setting his collar on manual and automatic. If he starts playing with his sister or comes inside, I turn the collar onto manual. If he's on high alert in the yard, I switch it to automatic. It is very easy to switch between manual and automatic. We take the remote with us on dog walks and the collar has helped train him not to howl at people or dogs walking by. He gets a vibration or beep warning when he starts to get excited, and I send a correction if he full-out bawls. The vibration and beep warnings have become a sort of communication between us that seems to reassure him that he can relax. In the yard, we follow the same protocol. He's allowed one howl to alert us, and then he's got to clam up. He gets a vibration or beep if he is carrying on, and even if he is just staring or stalking at neighbor dogs, etc. He rarely requires a true correction in the yard anymore, and a vibration is enough to get him to stop staring or attempting to intimidate through the fence. I do wish the second collar were more affordable (it's $150) after investing almost $300 in the whole system just for one dog, but I'm going to go ahead and pay it because ultimately this has been a wonderful product. ... show more

  • If used properly, this thing is a game changer!! If used properly, this thing is a game changer!!
Style: Collar & Handheld
We have a 7 month old chocolate Labrador pup who has been blasting through our invisible fence brand e fence. Rather than splurge and buy a new stubborn dog invisible fence that may or may not work, I decided to buy an ecollar, figuring it was a less expensive way to see if our Willy would train with a bit more juice. I looked at a lot of different options but settled on the garmin sport pro based on other reviews and that I wanted someone in the $200 range that would last and not be a novelty. Overall very happy with the build and first impressions of the unit. I really like the following: - ability to beep and or vibrate before giving correction. If trained properly, your pup should start to respond to these eventually without having to correct. - waterproof...don't swim Willy more than probably 20x a year but it's already handy in the wet snow... don't have to worry about it. - led lights. Thought this was a gimmick when purchased but it is really nice to be able to give Willy the lighting "ground effects" so that I can see him at night in the woods on walks. - analog, 10 level correction I wouldn't buy a digital dial-- too much fumbling and looking at it when adjusting levels. Ice you get the hang of it and know your starting level, can adjust easily without looking. - garmin has training videos on u tube which are helpful. Now for operation... At first the pup didn't feel a thing and I thought the collar was snug enough. After doing more research, I replaced the short pins with the long ones and really tightened it down. I found that Willy will notice something (no pain or yelp) at 2. I can use this for general training with zero distractions. With high temptations/distractions (e.g. Wanting to bolt for another dog or person) , level 4 usually does the trick. The goal is to grab attention without freaking the dog out and making him fearful. The most I've had to use is 5 and now most of the time a few beeps and he either stays or comes, depending upon the command Bottom line is this has been an extremely helpful training tool and Willy loves wearing it Because he gets freedom off the leash. Just this morning I took him on a walk and there were ids playing on a frozen pond. Typically, he would just take off to greet them and the. Run all over the place without coming back...until after a 39 minute cat and mouse, with me ready to lose it. A few beeps and he didn't even try to approach them, gave him praise and we went on our way and played fetch in the woods. This thug has really been a game changer for both of us. If used properly the dog is NOT being harmed and is not fearful or changing his demeanor what so ever, other than gaining control and trust. The goal is lots of praise, NOT punishment. Highly recommend this product. Downsides: Would like battery to last longer. I sometimes leave it on him during the day if I'm around and the battery doesn't have much left in the evening. It will appear to be working per led, but beeps and correct diminish. - collar is long enough to harness a Holstein cow. I snugged it tight, marked it , left about 6 inches for growth and then cut it Overall very pleased and would recommend, game changer for quality time off leash with our pup. Pic is pup with collar on. Doesn't irritate him at all, even snugged up. ... show more
