Battery life incredible, even though Bluetooth is on constantly, lasts at least 5-6 days. I like my watches to be fairly basic. So I thought I would be okay with this monochrome screen. But I don't like it. I'm much happier with colors. It's a little more expensive than what I ended up paying for the replacement watch I got too. I really like the Garmin brand so I went with another Forerunner. I just upgraded to a 165. Love it! Back to this watch. It's got a lot of bells and whistles that I don't use. So while it's a nice solid watch with a ton of options, it doesn't work for me. There's a whole different feel to it when it's just black and white. But I think it's a really good watch. If that color issue is not a problem for you. I highly recommend Garmin products overall. ... show more

I have a small wrist. I was really worried that the 40mm would be too large but it’s perfect, I can even fit it around my ankle on the last strap hole for when I can’t use it on my wrist. As for Data, I’m still feeling around to get the hang of it. I need to calibrate my steps which is a cool feature for accuracy. The sleep cycles are so-so to be expected with any of these device, I notice there are some inaccuracies. The body battery though is pretty accurate. When my battery is low I feel it. It even tracked me through a sinus infection and it was interesting to see how my HRV dipped and my pulse ox was low when I slept as well as it rise with my recovery. I mainly bought for hiking trips, although I did not buy the solar- the battery life is good. 13/14 days with the pulse OX on at night only. If I went on a day hike with elevation I would use the pulse ox all day and the battery life would be more like 7 days and GPS shortens the battery even more. With all the features on, and GPS I bet you could expect to get about 18 hrs with constant GPS. So many ways to optimize the battery though and you probably won’t use all those features all at once. If you feel like you will, then get the solar. Watch is rugged and not smart watch looking at all which is what I wanted. ... show more

UPDATE: I'm having bad reactions to the strap. It started by the strap holders but now it's moving around the whole wrist. I've now run out of placement options as I've only 2 wrists! I'll see what Garmin says when they get back with me. I've removed another star as this shouldn't happen! Still love the watch tho... I had to let my very loved but very old vivosport go. It was a sad day as it had everything I needed. My needs are simple. GPS for my walks, easy to find buttons for other activities, a step counter and (for keeping me moving) the intensity minutes. Another big reason for this model is im tough on electronics. Its going to get banged and dropped and I need rugged! I'm still working my way through editing all the screens to suit my needs but it's easy enough. I love that the front face can have everything i want to see at a glance. (Ie I've got most of the above, plus time & date). I deliberately went for the smaller model as I'm already sizing up from the vivosport and it's perfect. I took a star off as I'm not a huge fan of the strap, I have narrow wrists and it's still a bit short and hard to get buckled just right. I also really wish garmin would add more colors. The choice was very limited! I can now only hope that this watch lasts as long as my vivosport did. All in all, it's a nice comfy watch to wear that's not huge and I'm very happy I purchased it. ... show more

I love how no-nonsense this watch is! It isn't flashy, but it does a great job with tracking. I had the instinct 2s solar before this one, and I loved it. After a little over 2 years, the battery just stopped holding a charge. The extremely long battery life is a huge deal to me! I hope this one lasts longer than my last. ... show more

Purchased for trail riding. I went back and forth on this one and the forerunner having had an entry level forerunner in past. There are few Garmin that have the smaller watch faces. I've a small wrist and the smaller size fits perfect... the regular size is much too big. I made the right choice. Love the activity selections. Still learning how to use for maps, etc. but great so far. It is black and white, unlike the other colorful watches... but the battery life is amazing! Easy to read the face of the watch for the most part... even with my 'aging eyes'. ... show more
