  • Great value
This meter is a great value. The meter is accurate. It maintains your testing history and computes 7, 14, 60 and 90 glucose averages. New test strips can be purchased on Amazon for less than the co-pays from many insurance programs.

  • Accurate & Affordable
Lifesaver! When the insurance company and pharmacy delayed a new diabetic from getting a blood glucose monitor, I found On Call Express. It's truly accurate, affordable and my friend is alive and doing well. He no longer wants the machine the hospital ordered with test strips that cost $175.00 a bottle. On call is ♡ ... show more

  • test strips sometimes bad
I read all the negative reviews and decided my review would be nearly the same. The only difference being that my On Call was even more inaccurate. This morning when I took 4 (four) readings they were way over 10 percent off. Lowest was 84 which was still higher than it should be and highest was 140! Since I have been using the On Call for nearly 2 months, I can't return it. So considered calling On Call support for a replacement. Then read a review saying the test strips aren't made as reliably as with more expensive test kits. And I further read that support is requesting "testing" on faulty test kits and other run-around bs. Forget that. So now I can toss the On Call test kit and new bottle of test strips and look for a reliable, probably more expensive one. Update, Oct. 23, 2021. Have continued using On Call Express for a total of about a year and a half now. After tossing the test strips that gave wildly varying results, all of the On Call Express test strips I purchased (using them once a week) have been close enough to consider good for what I need to know. Considering the price for the kit and then the price of the strips compared to the "accurate expensive ones", this is a pretty decent deal, with a caveat: If the result doesn't seem right, use another strip. If the difference is more than 10 mg/dl then try again. If the difference is still too high or low and you keep getting widely varying results, then you got a bad batch and should return them if it's not too late (they'll probably tell you to toss them or whatever). Out of 7 test-strip bottles by On Call Express that I have purchased, only one has been bad. The 4-pack I have now (Oct. 23, 2021) works fine. ... show more

  • Plain Vanilla, but It Does the Job
This is a perfectly adequate little glucose monitoring starter kit. In addition to the meter itself, it has enough supplies to allow you to use it right out of the box, though you'll need to order more strips immediately. Its memory capacity is not large, but it's adequate for recalling enough of your data to allow you to transfer it to a journal or computer record. For the price, it's a very good kit, and I recommend it to anyone just getting started with glucose testing. ... show more

  • It works but a bit awkward for non standard use
I did not buy this for human testing. I have a diabetic cat whose ears do not like to bleed when poked. I hoped since this meter took less blood than the other, the process would go smoother. The other takes .6 uL but this one claims .4 uL. I really wanted to this to work well. It was accurate, but the strips are bigger/thicker than the other meter strips I was using. It also has a flat/square end and the others had a curved end, so while this works for humans testing themselves, it is not easy to use on a cat that is constantly trying to move while I get the sample. The cat flicked his ear and the drop went to the floor. I could not get the strip to sip the blood at an angle possibly due to the thickness of the strip. I had to press straight down on the drop. The drop on the floor was fairly large so can't verify claim of .4 uL. It was within 10% of my other meter so I do not doubt it is accurate, and I gave it 4 stars because it is a great price and probably will work great for someone testing themselves, just not great for a cat. I know these are not made for cats. The ones for cats are $1 a strip. Human meters may read a bit off compared to pet meters, but they are consistent readings. ... show more
