  • More reliable than the GDL-39D
I've only had this for a couple weeks, but so far the GDL 52 is much more reliable than the GDL 39D I had before it. The GDL 39D constantly dropped the connection to the satellites and to the iPad, so attitude information as sketchy, at best. The GDL 52 has yet to drop the connection. I did notice, however, that the 52 attitude information takes a while to catch up with the actual attitude. If you level out, for example, the 52 will take a while to return the attitude indicator to level flight. ... show more

  • Working great thus far.
Product working great so far when charged. However, I'm not sure the device charges at the same time of being on. Appears you must turn it off to charge. Not sure if being connected to a charging block and on at the same time will work. I will test this again.

  • Great functionality!
Sirius XM wx and radio are great features in addition to ADS-B. Portability means I can take it with me in planes that don’t have built-in weather or AHRS AND I can take it in my car for Sirius XM radio.

  • Charging port broke
Works great! But!!! Huge but! I like another poster have found that the USB port broke off! I'm just straight up returning this unit. Too expensive of a unit to have a cheap break

  • I use with Foreflight.
Best of both worlds in one package. ADSB and XM Weather provides me with everything I need.

  • Garmin product not so good customer assistance...
A function was not working on my unit (power saver function), called Garmin but they were no help....as usual! Garmin makes great product but this unit seemed to be defective on the power saver function; I was going to sent it back, but used it a few time in the aircraft and all other functions seemed to work well, I can live with one small function not working, just wished Garmin had been more receptive to my problem. Also, today tried to pair a Bluetooth headset (lightspeed AV 200) and could not get it to work, don't know if its the GDL 52 or my Aera 796; the Aera says 'already at capacity for paired devices' and I only have the GDL connected? ... show more

  • Will NOT Pair via Bluetooth...
I was happy to receive and after charging the unit, tried to pair with my iPad. Would NOT pair. Tried to pair with my iPhone. Would NOT pair. I then called Garmin support and he walked me through troubleshooting, rebooting my iPad and was still unable to Pair !!! Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. I returned the unit for a full Refund. ... show more

  • Fun aviation toy. But I have no confidence in it.
Excellent GPS, great nav functions, great weather functions (when they work), and ok battery life (4.5 hours). XM weather signal is spotty in a pressured cockpit. Usually have to move it around the cockpit to find a good signal. Doesn’t always play nice if you’re running ForeFlight. I had issues with Bluetooth not auto connecting on power up. AHARS information on ForeFlight isn’t very fluid. Neither are traffic advisories. It’s a fun aviation toy but I’m not relying on it. Doesn’t really inspire confidence. Update: we notice that even though XM SIGNAL is strong weather data doesn’t download all the time. ... show more
