With this larger screen I can comfortably sit back in my seat and see clearly each street that's coming up ahead of me on the GPS screen. It took me about 6 weeks to get used to this sitting up on the dash because the screen is so large it noticeably obstructed some of my view. Where I live it's illegal to have anything stuck to your windshield. Initially I was moving my head all around to see the edge of a road on a turn or to make sure I'm not running over someone's dog or child on the edge of a sidewalk, view of which was now concealed by this GPS. My brain has adapted to this so it's no longer an issue. I don't have anxiety with this thing sitting up there partially blocking my view, like I did when I first put it there. Also, I didn't realize this thing would not fit on the standard Garmin friction base. On amazon.com I got Loctite PL Marine Fast Cure Adhesive Sealant, 3 Ounce Squeeze Tube, and glued the base of the plastic neck mount that came with this GPS unit, to the base of the dash friction mount from Garmin. (Don't use the 3M ring sealant it uses a different chemical composition which does not appear to me to be compatible with the plastic used for the Garmin friction mount and the flexible suction cup on the base of the mounting neck.) The sealant was only available in white, so the next day I painted over (for aesthetics, the white Marine sealant) with some flat black paint compatible for painting this sealant. I got the paint from Amazon.com, Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint in Assorted Colors (8 Ounce), 20404 Black. For longer than 4 months in the hot car in the summer the paint is held up but not flaked and not peeled at all, not on the Garmin plastic base nor on the Marine sealant. Note again, that I chose the Loctite Marine sealant, not the 3M brand, because the Loctite will stick to these types of plastics without damaging them. I've used the Loctite before under 70 lb of pressure, fixing split plastic collars on my commercial size/ grade swimming pool equipment at my house, and a leaking pool salt generator housing. Also, because you cannot rotate the GPS around once you've fastened the mounting neck to the friction base, be sure that you are gluing the plastic neck that comes with this GPS unit, to the Garmin dashboard friction mount in a way that the assembly will sit where you can see the screen, and the assembly is also securely sitting on your dashboard without falling over as you decelerate and accelerate. ... show more

This one does not come with the cable neceessary to transfere files from one device to another with Garmin Express - the cable must be bought seperately from Garmin for the pc/USB recognition to take place. This screen is HUGE! .... and I LOVE IT! This is probably my 5 or 6th Garmin that I have owned, and this is my favorite. Nice big screen, easy controls and the extra features are nice. It also seems to start up and acquire the satellite very fast (much faster than my older ones.) .

I had difficulty updating the unit. Took me hours to figure out the trick. It is loaded with features. Since I don't want or need 80% of those features, it just adds to my confusion. The screen is bright and easy to read, even in the sun's glare. The voice ques are loud and clear. The audible alarms are confusing. I haven't worked out how they should be customized yet, but at least they can be customized. The database of restaurants and local attractions is excellent. I am having difficulty saving important navigation addresses. When I fail in an attempt to do so, there isn't any hint my attempt failed until I look for it and discover it isn't there. ... show more

Just completed a road trip from Charleston SC to Anchorage AK on the Trans Alaskan-Canadian Hwy, winding through the Northern Rockies maintaining Garmin satellite reception the entire trip. There was no cell signal in most of the Yukon, so we relied solely on Garmin to locate logging, fuel, and food. It was about 95% accurate for this information. Love that the voice recognitions is significantly better. Still has some issues, but definitely better that the last one I bought, just a few years agon. Like the directions, spoken word, and landmarks. Better at navigating, too. My last one sometimes took me longer ways, and on slower streets. The thing I miss is the magnetic connection that holds the unit in place and also connects power. This one you have to plug in and unplug for each use, whereas the older one, you just held it up and it connected to the holder and power. ... show more

    • Had to relearn the newer software on this GPS unit. Not as intuitive as earlier units.
