  • Nice GPS
Had to return a different GPS as it would tell the wife to turn around if she ignored the misdirection of that device. This is working perfectly. Easy to program and enter addresses; quickly recalculates if a turn is missed. Great battery life noted on our one trip with it so far. Shape is sleek but not as stable as old Garmin unit unless inserted in the supplied mount, which the wife doesn't want to "bother with". Update was a breeze with the app and a PC. ... show more

  • Replacement For A Previous Garmin
Our new car doesn't have a GPS unless I hook up my smartphone to the screen in the car. My husband doesn't have a smartphone and I'm not always with him. We left the other unit in the car we sold to a family member so I told him I would get him another Garmin to have in the car for him to use. We have been very pleased with all our Garmin units that we have had. Depending on the unit some have a great value that won't break the bank. We haven't used this one for very long but it functions quite well for the usage we have given it. Overall, we have been pleased with it. ... show more

  • Not for me
I never had a chance to use this so I can't offer an opinion on the functions. My reason for only 4 stars is the included cable. It was very short making it impossible for me to use it in my suv. I was going to use a suction mount on the passenger side window, my daughter would be managing it, as the dash material isn't smooth and I didn't want to use a sticky mount. I couldn't afford to get it hardwired thus the final straw for me. Oh well, we ended up using online maps for our trip and it worked out for us. ... show more

  • Directions without being tracked...
I got this because I didn't like how mapping apps on my iPhone were feeding all the data about where I was going and how I was driving to the services (Google farms it all, Apple some of it) -- and while there are a few opensource mapping apps that do not do this, they are not as feature rich as I'd like. So, got this which doesn't send my travel info anywhere and I can disable the log of my trips on the device. I like the smaller size (used to have one with an 7" screen) that is less obtrusive on my dashboard. The only downside is that the USB charging/data connection cable is very short and not well shielded. ... show more

  • Garmin still makes the best GPS Unit.
I owned Garmin GPS units when they first came out, twenty years ago. I was an early adopter, used it for work and personal travel. When I met my wife in the summer of 2008, she had a Tom-Tom GPS, she preferer my Garmin, so I got her one. When we replaced our cars they had built in GPS. Last summer my car was totaled and I had to replace it. I bought a newer version of the same car, but it didn't have a GPS.I didn't think that I'd miss it, but I did. Recently I went on an animal rescue mission, I bought this new Garmin for the trip. 5,300 miles, fourteen states, the Garmin never left me down. My only regret is that I didn't purchase one with a larger screen. But that is my own fault. I highly recommend. ... show more

  • It's the only one out there
Most people use on board GPS in their cars, unless you have an older car. Then they use their phones, which to me is silly. I wanted a stand alone GPS without having to keep my $40 Trac phone in a cradle, hooked up to a charger. Looks like Garmin is the last company to make such a thing. This is very much like my older Garmin that I have used for well over a decade. Oddly it came with no instructions, they are built in and menu driven so you have to turn it on. Update it right away, the screen says it will take hours (took about five minutes for software and map updates). All GPS have a tendency to take you convoluted routes, Garmin does as well. I haven't run this on the road yet, but EVERY GPS/Phone or whatever will occasionally be a bit slow and turn into my mother in law "you should have turned back there". I purchased the 7 inch screen which is small for some, I prefer seeing more of the road. I'm very happy with it. ... show more
