While the expensive stainless steel, convection oven, and overhead stove vent, microwave, lost its microwave function everything else works. That likely means the Magnetron has failed. It could mean the diode has failed too, but either case has too much labor involved to repair. I looked at having a new one installed, but those big box stores that do it require a specific vent size and refuse to do any modifications, so you can be left with a mess dealing with contractors. The good news is except for the microwaves themselves every other function works. I can even use the convection oven feature if needed. Still, I need the convenience of a microwave. Thinking about it a bit I remembered I have a large countertop oven on my prep table. This particular model fits perfectly on top. I bought a heat-resistant mat to prevent slippage of the microwave feet and installed it out of the box in five minutes. While much smaller and less powerful than my old unit, this fits most of the things I use a microwave for. Heating water, melting butter, small frozen dinners, reheating pizza and sandwiches, it does them all fine. The price of this was fantastic as it cost roughly one tenth of the cost of my old unit, and less than the trip charge a local repair facility would charge me to evaluate a repair estimate. I like the retro look and the simple controls although there is a bit of a learning curve. My old unit had mostly intuitive buttons, so selecting power levels and presets was easy. I never bothered with the manual on my old unit, but I've had to access this one a few times for the special timed cook, reheat, defrost and other settings. It's not overly complex, but you do need some information. I laminated a card with the basic settings I'll use and attached it with a magnet to my fridge. That should help. despite less power most things I've used it with cook nearly as fast and as complete as the old unit. Recommended. ... show more

I recently moved into a new apartment and it was built in the 40s. The apartment is reasonably small but my kitchen is tiny and the outlet situation is a bit of a challenge. I bought a Toshiba microwave and realized quickt that it was muuuuch too big for the space. I returned it and decided to buy this retro aesthetic microwave instead. I was hesitant as it is only 700 watts and after reading reviews I wasn't sure if I was just paying for a pretty look rather than something that works well. Although, I haven't had it that long, she works wonderfully. I have to warn you that I do not do hardcore cooking with my microwave. I do use it to defrost, rather I use it for the lightweight reheats, microwave meals, and soups. I was worried that perhaps I would have to run it for several minutes more but that hasn't been the case. Sometimes I pop it in for an extra 30 seconds and it is fine. I have noticed slightly that there seems to be hot spots but for the most part, if the food is something I can stir then it makes the rest of the food hot and it hasn't been a problem. If you are short on space then this may just be a saving grace. It is wonderfully small although my fiestware 10 inch plate does fit snugly. It is beautiful and easy to use. ... show more

I just replaced my old microwave with this one, so I can't speak to lifespan. But the price was great, and I looked many other places before coming "back home" to Amazon. I haven't tried all the power settings yet, but everything seems easy to use. I like the fact it's not a digital setup; I like the knobs and buttons that are easy to read. I'm getting older and have some eye issues, so I appreciate not squinting to see what I'm setting. It seems to have enough power, a wide variety of cook times, and the noise is low but functional. It beeps when done but not annoyingly loud. All in all, a great purchase. Oh, and it's also the same interior size as my previous one, but a smaller exterior and the exterior is cute! ... show more

    • The control panel malfunctions and can’t be fixed.

I really like the look of the microwave, but the control panel is problematic. I bought the microwave last year, however it was in storage for a year while our home was being remodeled. I finally was able to use it in early July, but the control panel stopped working after only a month of use. Because I had owned it for over a year, it was past the one year warranty deadline. I called their customer service and they told me it would be too costly for me have it fixed. So, I chalked it up to back luck and purchased a replacement. Sadly, there was an immediate problem with the control panel of the new unit. The clock could not be set. Since I had set the timer on the first unit I purchased I knew it was a problem with the control panel. This microwave is great when it is working. Great size, color and efficiency! We love this and it matches ourwall colors! I have never seen a microwave with a safety lock feature on it before, but it is definitely child proof! I still have to remember to push unlock, lol! Great feature for households with children!
