Frequently asked questions

To set the time on your BLACK+DECKER digital microwave, first make sure the oven is in standby mode. Press the 'Clock' button and then use the number pad to input the current time. You might need to press 'Clock' or 'Start' again to confirm the time, depending on your model. The display should then show the time you set.

Yes, the turntable in the microwave can be easily stopped or removed for cleaning. To stop the turntable from rotating, press the turntable on/off button if your model has one. To remove it, simply lift the turntable up. It's recommended to clean it with mild detergent and warm water, dry carefully, and ensure it's correctly positioned back on its track before using.

To activate the child safety lock on your microwave, press and hold the 'Stop' or 'Cancel' button for about 3 seconds. The display usually shows a lock symbol or an 'L' to indicate the lock is active. To deactivate, press and hold the same button for another 3 seconds until the lock symbol disappears. Refer to your specific model's manual as these instructions can vary.

Safe materials for your microwave include microwave-safe plastics, glass, ceramic, and paper products. Avoid using metal objects, aluminum foil, or dishes with metallic paint or trim. Always check for a microwave-safe label on your containers or dishes. If in doubt, you can perform a safety test by microwaving the item by itself for a short time with a cup of water inside the oven as well; if the item heats up, it's not safe to use.

šŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven garners mixed reviews, highlighting its blend of efficient functionality and sleek design with some operational frustrations. Users have praised the microwave for its modern stainless steel appearance, easy-to-use digital controls, and features like the push-button door and child safety lock. It's noted for fitting well in small spaces and performing key tasks— reheating, defrosting, and cooking—adequately and quietly. However, concerns about the sensitivity of the touch panel, the lightweight nature causing it to slide on countertops, and some models being underpowered are notable.

Pros

  • šŸ½ļø Sleek stainless steel design
  • šŸ‘¶ Child safety lock feature for added security
  • šŸ•’ Efficient and quick heating with various models rated at 700W to 1000W
  • šŸ‘‚ Relatively quiet operation
  • šŸ“ Fits well in small spaces, suitable for places like assisted living kitchenettes

Cons

  • āš ļø Touch panel may not respond well, needing multiple attempts to activate
  • 🚚 Lightweight design can cause the microwave to slide on the countertop
  • šŸ”‹ Some models may be underpowered than advertised
  • āž– Lacks a reheat button, which might be an inconvenience for some users

Should I Buy It?

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven offers a compelling mix of style, functionality, and compact design, making it a suitable option for small to medium-sized kitchens, office spaces, or dorm rooms. If the highlighted cons, such as the sensitive touch panel or the sliding issue, are minor for you or can be readily fixed, it stands as a solid purchase. Its performance, primarily for routine tasks, and additional features like the child lock, contribute to its appeal. Judge your needs carefully; if you prioritize aesthetics and basic functionality over high-powered performance, this could be a great fit for your kitchen.

  • Excellent/Impressive Microwave!
Size: OTR 1.9 Cu.Ft
We couldn't have imagined ordering this certain product online but our other one (20 yr old Kenmore) finally gave up the ghost and all the box stores had to order (at least 2 wks out). It's the best thing we took a chance on and my husband and I are so happy with the purchase so far. We rec'd it within 2 days and had we installed it the next day. Thank you Amazon for getting it to us so quickly, (with holidays going on). The installation was not the easiest but my hubby can fix and install just about anything, so...no big deal. It will take 2 people (mainly to steady it in place). We started with warming up our coffee and cooking a bag of popcorn. Worked great! The unit was so quiet and we found that a real plus. The fan has 2 speeds which was pretty loud but tolerable. The lighting over the stove was super helpful and the inside being white, let us see everything as it was working. Love the new unit and hope it lasts for a very long time. By the way...the price was super as well. We highly recommend this microwave. ... show more

  • Reliable, Sleek, and Easy to Use
Size: 0.9 Cu.Ft
I’ve been using this Black+Decker microwave for a few months now and couldn’t be happier with it. It heats food evenly and quickly, and the controls are super intuitive—no guesswork needed. The sleek design fits nicely in my kitchen and doesn’t take up too much counter space.

  • Nice microwave but lots of plastic parts on it
Size: OTR 1.9 Cu.Ft
So it was what I was looking for - an over the range stainless steel microwave, the ratings looked good, reasonable price, and it works well so far, quiet and not noisy but after I installed it is when I noticed it had a lot of plastic parts on it so it isn't as solid as it looks and I think I will have to treat it carefully to be sure I don't accidentally break any parts. Bought a small magnetic handle to attach to the front so as not to put too much stress on the handle as I saw a lot of complaints about it breaking on a lot of people and didn't know why until I discovered it was plastic too. ... show more

  • One pretty good microwave.
Size: 1.4 Cu.Ft
I really like this microwave. By default it has a pre-programmed lock that can easily be disabled. The size is perfect for our counter and has all the features we need.

  • It’s loud
Size: 1.4 Cu.Ft
I have to say, I’m getting used to it, but it’s loud. I also didn’t care for the child lock on it, but it can be disabled, and will need to be disabled should there be a power interruption. It heats well enough, hard for me to compare because my last one was 1100 ways, this guy is 1000 so you lose a little power. All in all, it’s a decent microphone for the price. I can’t speak to the longevity as of yet, but I hope it does well there. 05/10/25 This microwave has been awful from the beginning. It heats inconsistently. You’ll warm a cup of room temp coffee one time and it will take a minute, the ext time it will be a minute and a half. I’ve been dealing with this since purchase, but today the door aluminum shell) fell off. I was doing dishes and heard a noise, and the door cover was on the floor. I called the number of the manufacturer given here on Amazon, only to be told it was the wrong number. They gave me another number, and I called. The fellow took my information and told me to expect an email. The email requested the normal proofs of purchase, a photo of the door off and the serial number. I did a screenshot of the invoice on Amazon and sent it off. Within 10 minutes I got an email saying that the screenshot didn’t show the total price with taxes. So I went back to Amazon and did a copy paste of the invoice, which shows everything. Got another email stating they could not accept this. So I have spent numerous hours trying to get a PDF of the invoice from Amazon. I have had (unfortunately) to do this one other time, but I’m not enjoying the repeated calls, long wait times and in my opinion, Amazon is not as customer friendly as it used to be. Caveat Emptor. ... show more

  • Works well. Safety lock is awesome.
Size: 0.9 Cu.Ft
The safety lock feature on this is definitely a feature more microwaves should have. Does its job perfectly.

  • A real asset for food prep.
Size: 0.9 Cu.Ft
This is a handsome addition to any kitchen or students room. Looks especially nice atop a half size stainless steel & black refrigerator/freezer. Took a bit to get used to releasing the child lock. Super easy too keep clean with a damp paper towel & occasional sprinkling with powdered cleanser. Cooks food evenly when used properly. Low wattage saves energy bills. ... show more

  • It's a microwave. And it;s at a good price point.
Size: 0.9 Cu.Ft
I read several of my go-=to review sites and this one came up as one of the best on each and every one. As I said, it's at a reasonable price, too. I'm not a frequent microwave user. I use it to heat my leftover coffee, to bake sweet potatoes, and to heat milk for lattes. But I had surgery upcoming so needed something so my caregivers could reheat meals I had stocked in the freezer. This one met the criteria and that was that. The one thing I don't really like is the noise that EVERY microwave delivers when you open and shut the door. It's part of the design so the no harmful waves escape and I get that. But at 5:00 am and to hear that slamming door ugh it simply irritates me. There was a "QUIET" microwave cited on many of the review sites and it was a bit more money. AS I said, I only really needed it to reheat meals so I didn't;t care. But now I wish I had spent the extra whatever dollars to have one that just wasn't as loud. I'm sure it's still noisy for none of these can be silent, but oh well. That's my burden. You can choose your only.:) Anyway--it's perfectly fine, adjustable power levels, I think I made popcorn in it once. All things it's supposed to do and it does them really well. It's easy to keep clean and the profile is a bit shorter than most so it fits nicely under my overhang shelves. It has super storage area on top very even with no contours or decorative design distractions, so it has given me as much counter space back as it took away and that's a big plus in a small kitchen where I think this model was truly intended to shine. ... show more
