Update 06/30/2016 I have upgraded to the Gaiam Sol extra large mat. Love it!!!! But with the XL mat now the strap is even smaller, and a pain in the neck (literally) to sling across my back and walk to the studio. Gaiam: PLEASE make an extra long strap! An extra 12" would make a world of difference for those of us who walk a few blocks to practice. I'd gladly pay a few bucks extra to keep the convenience of the D-rings Gaiam uses. >>> Does what it's supposed to do- keeps a mat rolled. Well made, good quality cotton (?) strap and stainless steel rings, keeps my mat tightly rolled and in place. If it works for you, this is probably a lifetime purchase. As a big gal who walks about a mile round trip to practice on an almost daily basis, I wish a.) it were a few inches longer so it doesn't rub my neck when I sling it over my shoulder or b) if someone can tell me a better technique to wrap/carry this so it doesn't, I would be sincerely appreciative. Nice strap. I bought this almost a year ago, and came back to buy a second one for a new may. I use the strap all the time to carry my mat to and from yoga classes, and to keep the mat neatly rolled up at home. The strap is very easy to slip off and on the mat, and, with a modest cinching, it stays secure when carrying or storing the mat. My only complaint is that the strap is narrower and thinner than a typical yoga strap; so it works great for carrying the mat, but it does not work as well as the usual yoga accessory straps for yoga poses. I cannot find any wider D-ring cinch strap on amazon that does not have numerous so-called "honest and unbiased" reviews, so I am buying this Gaiam one again, as the best strap that has actual reviews. ... show more

An easy-to-use one-piece strap. It goes on quickly, and will fit any size mat. The mat can then be carried over the shoulder or slung cross-body (provided you're not too large a person). The strap comes off fairly easily. The strap has two permanent loops using metal O-rings. Just roll up the mat, slide the loops onto the mat, and tighten. Friction keeps the loops in place and it all feels pretty secure for such a basic mechanism. Reversing the procedure (taking the mat out) isn't quite as slick as the clasp-based YogaDirect Harness Sling , but the strap itself is a lot less complicated (and cheaper). This Gaiam product also seems much sturdier than slings that use only velcro, or that don't have rings/clasps. Slung cross-body, I don't look nearly as cute as the pictured model (I'm a 5'10" average-build male). The fit is a little tight, but it works. If the mat was much bigger than my regular-sized Manduka Eko (or if I was much bigger) cross-body would not work. Over-the-shoulder is easier and feels more natural. My only real complaint is the lack of color choice (and inability to select a color, I got the teal-blue). Recommended for a basic, easy-to-use sling that won't have you fumbling around with your yoga mat. ... show more
