Waited a bit to write review to see how actual use went. And I am happy to report it did reach a full 8in but I unzipped the encasement while it inflated which I personally think helped a lot. The mattress is very comfortable and cooling and I would say it is firm for foam without feeling like a rock! I bought this for van life use so if that's why you're here: would recommend, very easy to cut, you can get away with the 6in for sure and I would have ordered that one if all the reviews didn't make me skeptical it would reach full thickness. Also happy to report you can do a slat support underneath without the mattress squishing through it.
