Summary: This can reduce some solar heat gain from windows and has a very light tint. Application ease is slightly above average (for window film), but the film is not 100% clear, creating ‘micro-distortions’ – this can be slightly annoying, but not a complete deal killer depending on where your window is located. From the outside, the film looks nice, creating a slightly bluish tint but is not reflective. The film does reduce but does not entirely eliminate UV light. Optical Clarity – ok – the film is very light tint (if you didn’t have an untreated window next to it, you might not even notice the reduction in visible light), but it does have some ‘micro distortions’ that would be undesirable in an area where you have guests or family members that frequently look at the window. You can see out fine – but it can draw your focal point of your eyes to the window and not what you are looking at outside if you are close to the window. From a distance (and from outside), I don’t seem to notice it much. I’m not sure I’d use this in a living room, but for a side window or upstairs window it seems ok – wish it was a little clearer. Heat Reduction - ok: The window film provides some heat reduction from the sun shining into windows. This is anecdotal – I did not have measurement equipment, but here are my observations. 1) If you put your hand in front of a window that is treated vs. an untreated one, you feel less heat on your hand from the sun from the window with the film on it. 2) the film itself heats up – indicating that it is absorbing some of the solar heat that would normally go directly onto whatever the sun shines on. Some of this heat on the film will conduct to the window and go outside, but at least as much will likely go into the air in your room near the window. I’m not sure the net impact overall, the rooms with the film feel slightly better, but I did not notice a dramatic difference. UV blocking – reduces UV: Given the wide range of opinions on the Amazon reviews on whether this does or does not reduce UV, I searched on Amazon for a way to test and found a UV test card. I covered about half the card directly with the window film and exposed it to indoor morning sunlight coming in through a window, removed the The bottom right of the test card is the test area, and you can see the last few letters “iolet” clearly where the card did not have film, while the left hand shows letter very faintly (in the photo difficult to see at all, but faint in person). Based on this, it does appear to at least reduce the UV coming in. Application Ease- good: This is a static cling window film, not one with an adhesive. The film is thicker than some films that “crinkle” and therefore is easier to handle. As others have mentioned, the key is to use lots of water (with a drop of soap) sprayed on the window AND on the film when you apply it. If you can’t easily slide the film around when it first touches the window, you have likely not sprayed enough. With enough water, the film can be repositioned and the big bubble squeezed out. Some of the very small bubbles seem to disappear in day or so as the rest dries out. Delivery- mixed: I have ordered this window film several times. One odd item is when ordering the 48” x 120” rolls the rolls were damaged on arrival (the box ripped or creased in the same area). For me it was a learning curve to apply the film. I began on my smallest windows, in the easiest places, plus ones out of main entrances and exits. I continued on to the next easiest with each one. By the time I went thru entire whole large roll of film and the many windows that covered, I learned what to watch for and got the hang of it. But I'm NO PRO! I was delighted at the end of the day that the rooms did stay cooler because of the film! I will never be able to do as well as the experts. But I got it on the glass. Since it is static cling, if I get practiced enough at doing it that it looks significanly better, I MAY redo the beginning ones. All I would have to do it take the film off, readjust and do trimming and see if it looks better. But from what I see of how aware other people are of my windows, NO ONE IS ACTUALLY LOOKING at the parts of the windows where the flaws are. ... show more

    • Perfect for apartment windows. Made a difference for my bedroom.

I live in an apartment that faces West so in the summertime it could become nearly unbearable to be in my room where my desk is. I love the view but the heat would make it slightly unpleasant to just uncomfortable. I thought about using car window tint at first but did not like the thought of removing the adhesive film afterwards on 6 foot windows. I found window tint for actual windows but still did not like the idea that it was held in place by adhesive. Fortunately I found these from a recommendation from my browsing and am sure glad these exist. While other window tints were very dark or mirrored this one has a light blue tint which lets about 95% of the light in but little heat. I can still feel some heat from the sun rays but nowhere near as bad a when I did not have them. Application is quite simple. Quite honestly I did not need their fluid or tool. I just used distilled water with some dish soap ( don't use the kind that has moisturizer ) and a bathroom squeegee. To determine the amount of soap I stared with about 16oz of water and about 5 drops of soap. I eyeballed it but the way I determined the amount of soap to use is that the water should produce some suds but when you dip your fingers in it, they should not feel soapy/slippery. If they do then dump out some of the water and add some more clean water. There are plenty of suggestions on how to do this if you Google it. Measure the window size and add an inch or two to each side. Do not remove the film from the backing until you are ready to apply it. I made that mistake with the first window and it fell on the carpet. While it isn't sticky it did pick up some fibers which ended up on the window. It's not bad at all but it does tweak me a bit to look out the window and see a stray fiber. The film does have a slight shimmer to it. Can't really describe it properly. It's like looking though a bubble or frosted glass but it is faint in my opinion. Before applying the film, thoroughly clean and dry the window and then generously spray the window with your soapy water and apply the film. Depending on the window size this would be better with two people. Once applied, smooth it out and to the edges and then take a sharp blade and slowly go around the edges to cut the film to fit the window. I found for me that it was easier to do the sides first and then the bottom. Don't worry about squegeeing the water out yet. When you have the film cut to the edges, then start to squeegee the water out. Don't do it too hard on the first pass since the water will help get most of the air bubbles out. Check your edges again and cut any excess and then finish squeezing out the rest of the water. It helps to spray the film on the outside while squeezing out any air bubbles to help the squeegee glide more smoothly and not risk damaging your film. Even if there are any air bubbles the beauty of this film is you can peel it back and reapply it again. The only con, and not really a big con, is it doesn't do much for glare, for that I just close a light curtain, but the main issue of heat is resolved. This film should be great for anyone who has plants as well since it still let's in most visible light. ... show more

does reduce the heat slightly. i only did half the window initially and could feel a difference from the untinted vs tinted half. pretty annoying to install however. it is very difficult, if not impossible to get a smooth cut line. it bunches up when cutting causing problems. I suspect this is due to the thickness of the product. it also does cause a bit of blurriness. I squeegeed as much and as fast as I could before doing the cutting but it didn't help. I would not use this on a window where you want to enjoy the view. ... show more

I have a severe case of solar urticaria. Recently moved to a bright 2nd floor apartment. Was hoping to use this to protect me from the sun and either I got a bad batch or it doesn't block the UV it states it does no horrible rash yet but I where protective clothing except at night.
