Purchased this as a replacement fire place for our RV. It's winter time and things were getting a little bit colder! Original unit was no longer working so it was time to upgrade and replace. Don't buy this brand. We have our rv for 1 1/2 years. One that came with rv was replaced as it was not working. A year to date the fireplace stopped working. Just purchased another one. Plate cracked and rocks loose. Remote will not work. I have to use old remote from broken fireplace. Unfortunately I am taking a chance to install it as we are leaving on a trip. DON'T LOSE THE REMOTE! Quick summary and walk through. FAN There is a high, low and off function for the fan. After turning off the fireplace it stays on for about 10 to 30 seconds to blow out any residual heat. You can feel the direct radiating heat from around 7 ft away. FIRE The fire logs option of this fireplace (that's the one we bought) has four settings in terms of lighting, no changing color features. The lowest setting looks the most realistic to me as the higher setting that is brighter, ends up making the logs look red all over in a glowing kind of way and not so much a crackling fire kind of a way. TEMPERATURE You can set the temperature in increments of 5° starting at 65° and going all the way up to 95°. As you cycle through it will skip from 95 and back down to 65 if you keep trying to go up. GLASS The glass is not hot, we left it on all day at 95° with the fan on, the bottom part of the glass in front of the fire light feature was pretty much ice cold, and the part above the buttons and heat output area was about what a metal bowl might feel like, just a little bit chilly but not as cold as the bottom. The heat output to the left of the buttons on the fireplace are obviously very hot especially when it's turned on as that's where the heat itself is coming from, so that's the only area you would need to worry about with children or pets. TIMER We have not yet used this feature, I will update when we do. REMOTE The remote has six buttons, three on the left and three on the right. It's small and about the size of an LED candle remote control. Which is about 1 inch by 3 in. On the left from top to bottom, you have temperature and fan control (up and down). On the right you have power, fire lighting, and timer controls. HOWEVER, on the fireplace itself the thermometer icon would make you think it's in control of temperature like the remote, however it actually controls the fan and will read low, high, or off as you cycle through. This is why it's very important that you DO NOT lose the remote. The remote is the only thing that lets you control the actual temperature between 65° and 95° from what I can tell. It does, however remember after turning off and back on what your settings were previously, so as long as you've set it up initially and have no problem having that be your settings forever, go ahead and lose the remote 😅 but seriously don't. 😬. INSTALL Super easy! So long as you have a cutout for the smaller area of the back (read instructions and measurements) and you have an outlet to plug it into, you're golden. Use the four screws provided, screw it in, plug it in, and slide the glass back on and you're done! So easy! I actually had to add an outlet, my husband made a frame, and we put it on a slide with brackets so we can get behind it easier, so it took us a day... but the fireplace itself was probably the easiest part of our set up! Unit does not stay on sometimes, thermostat heats up to temp, but doesn't maintain, seems like the electronics have failed... lasted 3 years, I expected MORE... I bought a cheaper one thinking I could save a little, $. MISTAKE, it was loud, it got too hot, the crystals bounced all over and made ugly piles. This unit, the crystals on the bottom of this unit are glued together so they don't bounce all over, the thermostat is nice and accurate and it is quiet. My ONLY complaint is the lack of color options, others have so many more colors, but hey, I guess that can be an improvement for the future, as far as functionality, this is a FIVE STAR unit. I have got caught in cold weather and have gone through a propane tank per night, if you do any cold weather camping, this unit will pay for itself. ... show more
