Description

The MCEX-11 is a Macro Extension Tube for close-up photography. By attaching the ring between a FUJINON XF or XC lens and a camera body, users can enjoy high-magnification photography. When the Macro Extension Tube is attached, the focus range is limited so users can find a focus point by moving the camera forward and backward. The Macro Extension Tubes are equipped with electronic contacts, retaining normal AE, (Auto Exposure) functions and are designed to seamlessly blend into the original look and feel of the X-Series line of compact system cameras.

  • A Great Addition for Use with Fuji "X" Lenses
Style: 11mm (MCEX-11)
This high-quality piece turns virtually any Fuji lens into a "macro" lens. This is a great thing, considering Fuji's macro offering encompasses only one or so lenses. All you do is connect this piece to your camera (just like you would a lens) and then connect your lens to the extension tube. That's it! And then you are shooting at macro specificastions, and I mean, depending on what lens you connect, REALLY macro. I've had a lens that focused at something like 1mm! Now, that is one of the important points to note about this extension tube: it really is for macro shooting, and it will focus your lens only in a VERY narrow field of view. You will not, for example, be able to put this on and then shoot things at a distance. It is only going to focus on items very close to the lens, nothing more than quite close. My own experiments show that the best way to use this extension tube is to probably have your camera mounted on a tripod or similar mount, and then use manual focusing to get the best results. I did successfully use automatic focus on some shots, but macro photography being what it is, the manual focusing really is the way to get quality shots, and since the field of view for focusing when using this extension tube is SO narrow that manual focusing may be necessary to get a really sharp shot focused on what you desire. Although, sadly, this item is not manufactured in Japan like most of Fuji's wonderful "XF" lenses, it does present a quality look and feel, and is made of all metal components. It feels solid in the hand, and attaches reassuringly well to the camera and to the lens. The extension tube clicks into place (just like a lens) and the lens you are using also clicks into place on the tube. To remove, a spring-based lever on the side of the extension tube releases the device, and it can then be unlocked. For less than $100, you can turn your entire arsenal of Fuji lenses into macro lenses, which is pretty cool. The supplied documentation provides recommendations for lens selections, and also a table for how the extension tube affects the maximum magnification, the working distance, and the shortest distance for each of 14 Fuji lenses. This information is also available in electronic format from Fuji's support site online. Some useful notes from the supplied documentation: - "When the Macro Extension Tube is attached, the focus range is limited. It is necessary to find a focus point by moving the camera forward and back. Autofocus is available in the focus range, but using the manual focus is recommended for fine adjustments." - "When the Macro Extension Tube is attached, the distance between the aperture and the sensor becomes longer, so the lens produces a darker image. However, appropriate exposure can be obtained if shooting in AE. If you want to manually use an external flash, use it by adjusting the flash compensation." A great "speciality" device, there is nothing really to gripe about, considering what you get and for what it costs! It truly extends (no pun intended) your Fuji lenses' functionality. Five Stars. Note: The extension tube is also available in a 16mm format. Most people seem happier with the 11mm version, but see Fuji's table to see how each of these extension tubes affect the various Fuji lenses. ... show more

  • So much fun!
Style: 11mm (MCEX-11)
Well worth the price! I have had it for a couple weeks now and am having a blast. You donโ€™t realize how your perception of photography changes once you have the ability to take shots up close of the tiniest detail. I primarily shoot with my 35mm f2, and when I spot something I want a macro shot of itโ€™s easy enough to put the tube on for a few shots and take it off. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Awesome little attachment!
Style: 11mm (MCEX-11)
Photos taken with 18-55mm F2.8 along with the MCEX-11 Auto focus works surprisingly well.

  • Great for closeup/macro photography
This item works exactly as described. I also have an EF25 I use with my 5D MKII, but have been moving over to the Fujifilm X cameras. I purchased the 11mm version. I have tested this with the XF 55-200mm lens as well as a Pentax 100mm F/4 macro lens. It really seems to limit the focus of the 55-200mm. You should be aware that this does limit the lens when used so it cannot focus to infinite so you will need to remove it if you want the lens to function as normal. With the 55-200mm, the focusing range seemed to be very short. On the Pentax macro lens, it works perfectly as expected. Just like all the other name brand extension tubes, this is overpriced. You can always buy third party ones much cheaper. Most people say these third party ones work just as well, but I've seen some reviews talking about light leaks with them for the Fujifilm cameras. ... show more

  • Works, but not a perfect solution
Style: 11mm (MCEX-11)
These are not easy to master, and they are truly a lot less useful than a real macro lens. The bummer is that unlike a true macro lens, you can pretty much only shoot macro while this is on the camera. It moves the focus point so that it is impossible to focus on distant objects - obviously it depends on the lens and the light, but by "distant" I mean sometimes anything more than a few inches away. That being said, it does cost 1/7th as much as the 60mm lens, and it does make it possible to shoot great macro shots. Focus and exposure controls all work with regualr camera controls. I am shooting with an X-e3 and tried this with the 23mm, 50mm, and 55-200mm lenses, all with varying but always functional results. ... show more

Style: 11mm (MCEX-11)
Lets me focus just a bit closer with the 80mm Fuji macro lens with no loss of autofocus or stabilization. Great product.
