First of this thing makes ice like crazy but it's soft ice and needs to be placed in the freezer for a while after the basket is full. Also the water reservoir is a tab bit small so I'm keeping bottled water next to it and when I empty the basket I simply refill it. LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT. When this gets delivered, you need to let it sit on a lever table for several hours. 2 minimum before starting it up. Like any other compressor the oil needs to settle back to the bottom or you will burn the compressor up. I can guarantee two things, most poor ratings are from men who don't read instructions first and UPS monkeys will have this refrigerator upside down or on it's side at some point during the delivery. I am amazed at how much ice this little thing makes and how fast it's making it.

We did keep emptying the ice into an ice bucket in our freezer and it is over full now. It filled the counter top ice maker bucket in no more than an hour. The longer it ran the faster it made ice. I just got it today so don't know about the longevity of it just that it makes ice fast and everything works better than expected. Ice is bullet shaped and it is not super hard but not like nugget ice either and it makes 2 sizes of ice bullets. We like it.

I received this rather slowly, but after unpacking it, it was extremely simple to operate. No guesswork, and only a few buttons. I plugged it in, filled it with a couple of quarts of water, selected "small cubes" and in about 8 minutes the first batch was delivered, and every 8 minutes after that until the bin was full and "ice full" lit up on the control panel. I emptied the bin into a freezer container and pushed "start" again. It takes about an hour and a half to fill the bin, which is equal to about two ordinary ice cube trays, which is about a quart of water, so in three or four hours, you have the equivalent of four ice cube trays to store in your freezer. The "large" ice cubes are about 50% bigger than the "small." Neither is really large, but I prefer the small size. They also work better in my ice crusher (Hamilton Beach) for even finer ice for super cold drinks. This machine does make a little noise from the fan and when it empties the ice into the bin, but it's a kind of reminder that it's on, because if you leave it in the ice maker, it will melt and then make the same ice over and over, which is terribly wasteful. It is not a freezer. You have to get some plastic bins from 99 cent store or Walmart and then find a place in your freezer. Occasionally the ice will be melted slightly, causing it to stick together in your plastic containers. If you get a metal ice scoop you can break the ice apart with that. Even better is a meat tenderizer mallet which will break it apart in just a couple of whacks. This is small enough to fit in an out of the way place (on a low table, for instance) yet big enough and fast enough to make plenty of ice for everyday use or parties.

Since my previous ice machine sprouted legs and moved to SC, I decided I really didn't need to spend another $400 for a new one. My fridge has an ice maker but has a problem because it leaks a little and makes icebergs in the collection tray. Didn't want to spend money on repairs either so I found this ice machine from Frigidaire very reasonable. Went crazy & got the red one! Makes about 25 lbs of ice a day if you empty it into baggies or use alot of ice. Is a tad noisy with the water-trickling sounds and then ice dropping into the basket. I had not had good luck with the machines from China. Not necessarily the manufacturing, but the engineering to start with. Anyway, Frigidaire has been around since dirt was young and if they don't know how to engineer refrigeration products, nobody does! We'll see. UPDATE: Makes great ice but I get irritated when it stops because it thinks it's full and it's not, I figured out that if a piece of ice is touching the crenelated part just above the ice basket, apparently that is a sensor that stops it from making anymore. I'm making it a habit to check it every time I'm in the kitchen, knocking any stay cubes off that top part and down into the basket. Downgraded one-star for this issue.

This little ice maker will crank out ice as long as you keep filling it and empty the ice tray. There will be another batch of cubes within a few minutes. I just plugged it in and it worked great. My dilemma was what to do with it all. My freezer ice maker had leaked and ruined our floors so I wanted to get ice without ice trays. The ice dispenser in the freezer door still works to crank out ice so I dump the little cubes in the holder. The cubes are wet and will clump in the freezer but easy to break up and my dispenser will break most. The little frigidaire will keep ice overnight. I let it work and it will stop when it fills the basket. There is ice in the morning. I don't find it loud. Not any different than my freezer ice maker and the countertop one works really fast. It will be good for parties.

I have waited long enough to review this gem. I use it in my RV exclusively. I have had it 2 years and used it a dozen times probably. It works so fast. It starts spitting out ice cubes in minutes and enough for a couple drinks in about 15 minutes I'd guess. It reuses the melted ice and continues to make fresh ice. It is very easy to clean and dry when RV goes back into storage. I have yet had any issue with mildew, smell, or bad tasting ice even after months of storage. I absolutely give 2 thumbs up and for the price would purchase again.
