  • Cold. With two minor issues.
I purchased a portable unit for my garage in Florida. The space is standard 20x20 with an 8' ceiling and concrete block. The garage door is insulated as well as the floor of the attic space above. But the garage faces west and hits 95 by late afternoon. The portable ran for 15 hours and only hit 78 degrees. So I purchased this unit. WOW!!! With the garage door open, the space dropped 3 degrees in 20 minutes. In a few hours I can cool the garage from low 90's to 78. The remote is nice and shows the current temp of the room. The unit is relatively quiet since most of the unit is outside of the concrete room. One issue is relatively minor... the serial number is on a decal on the outside of the chassis which is anchoring and caulked into the wall. While sliding it through the wall several times for leveling and tweaking, the serial number was scraped off and unreadable. Why the serial number is not inside the removable front grill is beyond me. Who wants to see an ugly decal? And on the chassis, which is not really part of the AC? I don't get it. So, now, I can't register the unit with Frigidaire. The second issue is the drain. There is none. The unit uses some new design which collects condensation in a pan and allows the fan to lift the water to help cool the coil. The result sounds like rocks in a blender, or rain on a metal roof. Luckily, I can't hear it that much from inside the garage... and I usually have music or talk radio on while working, so it didn't cause a major deduction in my grading of the product. Lots of people complained about the noise on the Frigidaire site, but apparently it's functionality outweighs the complaints from consumers. I'm tempted to drill a hole for drainage, but that is highly dissuaded by Frigidaire. All-in-all, it's a great unit so far. Let's see if it lasts. ... show more

  • FRIGIDAIRE 18500 BTU WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER
This product is rather badly constructed, not because of its parts or design, but because it is so poorly assembled at the manufacturer's facility. I had to return the first one I ordered because one of the condenser tubes was collapsed due to impact at the factory. The condenser was also bent in a concave arc by this impact. There was no damage to the outer case or the inner tray, so the damage occurred well before shipment, probably during component installation. The replacement unit came with internal sheet metal damage to the electronic package container and the compressor was tilted at an angle because the mounting tabs were bent. This shows extremely rough handling during manufacture. I have yet to start the replacement unit so I don't know if the refrigeration charge is OK but will find out as soon as I've installed the unit. Definitely plan on fixing damage to the unit or returning it several times before you get one that is in good condition. The manufacturer needs to improve their manufacturing process and up their quality control game. This postscript was added after I installed the unit. Although the air conditioner was roughly handled during manufacture, the refrigeration charge was intact and the unit functions satisfactorily. As noted by others in earlier reviews, this AC unit is highly effective. I have upgraded the overall rating from 3 stars to 4 stars and would have given the unit 5 stars had it not been for the manufacturing damage noted in the earlier post. ... show more

  • What they heck. Really!
Did not understand that I would need to hire an electrician to wire this for me. Got it today and it's already to go yet I can't plug it in! I can't afford to hire an electrician and my kids already cut the box up. So returning it isn't an option either. I'm just astonished that it's going to be 90+ degrees tomorrow and I has an A/ C that I can't use. Very upset. ... show more

  • It works good
I put this in my shop just under 8000 cu ft and I live in the deep south and it keeps the shop cool and comfortable. I like the sleep mode when I'm not in the shop it will maintain the temp but not run all the time so if it's not running it's saving money. The shop is insulated and it's tight, this will matter the more insulation the better. and seal up drafts this will help. this is big enough to pull my temp down to 60 degrees but I keep it at 70. I like the digital temp read out. Set the temp and leave it. At 8000 cu ft I use a fam to keep the air moving because I'm in the swamp so its mug ugly all year long here I also installed a dehumidifier so I can keep the humidity down in the winter time. Would be nice if you could get one that worked like a heat pump one that would heat and cool. How also would that be. ... show more

  • Arrived defective, Frigidaire has been no help
Bought this for my parents as they have a rather large area and are currently without any kind of cooling. Unfortunately when we received it, nothing but the display would turn on! Fan wasn't running, neither was the motor. Contacted Frigidaire and they confirmed that this was something that would require a technician. They have twice given us information for servicers who set appointments and then pretend they were never made in the first place, or otherwise day they are not actually a servicer. I'm going to return this unit and hopefully I can find one that will work ... show more

  • Delivered broken
I should've known by all the loose parts in the box when I finally got a handyman to install it, but it was broken and he couldn't fix it. By the time I had him install it, it was too late to return it. I advise anyone making an appliance purchase to mask up and go to a store for it. I'm hoping to find someone who can fix it because it's hotter than a sweat lodge in the middle of a Louisiana bayou in August here. ... show more
