Visually similar to dmc. Has the same texture and sheen. I purchased 3 sets and each was exactly the same colors. The colors and quality of each item was consistent. For basic or practice work it is more than fine. I would make sure you have enough to finish a project though, not sure about purchasing single colors when you need them. Also not sure if their colors are similar enough to dmc or whatever you can purchase locally. In general, this is nice thread and I will probably being ordering again in the future. I love this floss. The color is a nice rich black and the strands separate easily. The only thing that I could add that is negative would be the papers might fall off but you can solve that if you have a bobbin or something to wind them around
