I have been using this litter for my cats for many years. It clumps really well and neutralizes odors quickly. I’ve never had a cat show any discomfort with stepping on or otherwise interacting with this litter. It does track kind of a lot, but litter mats and regular vacuuming (both of which should be standard for any home with cats regardless of litter type) keep it in check. If they ever get rid of the unscented option, I will be very sad and will have to start searching for a new one. Cats have such incredibly strong senses of smell, and scented litter is so overwhelming that it makes me uncomfortable, so I can only imagine how bad that’d be for the cats. We have two cats and have tried several different types of cat litter. Fresh Step cat litter works really well for controlling odor. It keeps the litter box smelling fresh between cleanings and does a great job managing unpleasant smells in the home. It has ammonia-blocking technology, which really helps reduce strong odors and keeps the area smelling much cleaner for longer. The clumping ability is excellent, making scooping very easy and convenient, with clumps that hold together well for quick cleanup. It also absorbs very well, helping maintain a cleaner litter box overall. The compatibility is great with different litter boxes, and it performs consistently well. It is also very durable, lasts a long time, and doesn’t track a mess all over the floor like some other litters can leave tracking marks. Everything about this litter is good other than the dust. It tracks less than the other brands that I had "Arm and Hammer" and it does well with odor. The only negative is that it produces big dust clouds when you scoop it. Everything in my laundry room is covered in litter dust. I assume it is not good to breath in either. It has zero odor if its own and a dirty box still has zero odor. I can hardly believe it. Also zero dust cloud when filling the box. No tracking. This is miracle cat litter. I’ve been using tidy cat up until now which advertises all these things and doesn’t come close.

I am a new convert to this litter as of a few months ago! I have been using Dr. Elsey’s for a couple years and just couldn’t handle the quality inconsistency and glue-like clumps. I also tried the unscented versions of Tidy Cat and they smelled bad really fast. I got really tired of trying cat litters, but this one had mostly good reviews so I thought I’d give it a shot. I have two male cats, one litter box (works fine for them) and I scoop religiously every morning and evening. I fully change out the litter every 2 weeks. One of my cats pees on the high sides of the litter box, onto a liner and then the pee drips down into the litter. I always had issues with Dr. Elsey’s because it stuck to the side and then broke apart in gross-smelly, gluey clumps when I tried to scrape it off. This Fresh Step litter makes hard clumps and absorbs super fast. That being said, I don’t shake the clumps very much when I scoop, since I don’t like taking the chance of a clump breaking apart. Honestly, there IS some dust when I pour in the new litter. I don’t mind this. I don’t notice any dust when the cats are digging. It is not excessive, and (don’t hate me) I think the VERY slight dusty quality makes the scent absorbency better. The scent absorbency is another award I’d give. I hate smelling cat litter, whether it’s the pee or the perfumey scent added by the litter company. This is unscented AND it covers scents so well! I had major scent issues in the past with every litter I’ve ever tried. Dr. Elsey’s was sometimes OK, sometimes horrible, and I could never figure out why. Anyway, I love this stuff and I will probably be a customer for life! I am set up to get a 37lb set of boxes every 2 weeks and that works well for a large litter box with 2 cats. ... show more
