This pet door is so much nicer than the plastic ones! It is also excellent for installing in an outer wall. Most pet doors are designed for door use and are not deep enough to install into a wall. I looked for a long time until I settled on this one. It came with easy to follow directions and was installed in a couple hours. It looks really nice, too.

What can I say except that this rocks Lyla's world!! She loves the autonomy it gives her, and I'm stoked that I spend far less time letting her in and out. Hubby spent about an hour taking the door down, cutting the hole, and installing it. My only gripe is that the door cover panel is a pain to get lined up perfectly in the side slots in order to slide it down to close. I did tie a short rope pull handle on it, which makes it far easier to open. She has used it innumerable times for 3 months now, and it is holding up just fine. Good purchase.

Unfortunately if I had time to return this dog door, I would have. First we purchased the one listed as white but we received a plain aluminum one. The weather-seal felt is too short so it doesn't seal around the flaps. There is an approximate 1/16 inch open space between the flaps and the felt on each side so wind and rain can get through the sides of the flaps. I had to replace the existing felt with some purchased from a local hardware store so the flaps would seal better. Usually with these dog doors, there are two templates for cutting the wall opening: one for the interior wall and a second cardboard box that fits into the first cutout with markings for drilling into the exterior wall for aligning the template for the exterior wall cut. This product does not include a template that fits into the interior frame of the dog door with drill marking for the exterior cutout template. This second template really needs to be provided as it would make for an easier and faster installation. The product listing also does not tell you that you'll need at least two 8 inch or larger wood clamps that are large enough to clamp together both sides of the dog door frames when installing. Plus there is no mention to secure the two frames and interior boxes together utilizing pop rivets and you would need a rivet gun to install the rivets. Unfortunately the rivets were way too long and meant to be used on a thicker type of aluminum and shorter rivets should have been provided. Screws were provided as an alternative to the rivets but they were wood style screws where the top head of the screws stick up which could lead to a dog getting cut or their hair getting caught on the screw heads. In lieu of these I utilized sheet metal flat head screws for this purpose. Since I basically had to customize this dog door to get it to work, it does meet our needs but I would not purchase this dog door again. If it hadn't of been for some time constraints I was dealing with, I would have returned this dog door. I would think twice about purchasing this dog door.
