For the price, the stirring is a bit weak and the heat output is a bit disappointing, but its temperature control is nothing to complain about. If you need a lot of heat or very strong stirring look elsewhere but if you just need to hold something a certain temperature and swirl it a bit this should be perfect. Apparently the stirring goes up to 1500 rpm but I wouldn't know anything about that because all my stir bars lose their minds above 700. Update: About a week after posting this review I was personally contacted by the seller, saying they've asked their engineers to look into improving things and to offer me a full refund or replacement. I've gone with the refund and must say, very impressive customer service. This review was originally 3/5 stars but now that I know the company is solid I will definitely be getting the 7" hot plate/stirrer model as I just wasn't quite able to push this one far enough to meet my needs. To sum up, the heat and stirring are a tab underpowered, but the temperature regulation functions great and I've discovered the customer service is top tier.

i grow yeast starters for my brewery and this unit more than fits the bill..it holds temp very well because if it did not it could cost me a lot of time and money.. if it killed off the yeast by over heating then i would have to start over

The media could not be loaded. The hotplate is quite precise, the addition off the temperature probe really makes the difference, the included rod and stirring bars are great, the stirring is quite powerful and stable. The packaging was incredible, it came extremely well packed, not a chance it'd get damaged in transit. It's recommended to read the manual before operating, for safety reasons

Like most of the sciences, observation and comparing against known data (or expectation if you have no reliable data) is key when evaluating equipment (everything?). I have a centrifuge that I almost returned because it sits at around 20 RPM for almost a minute before ramping up to the programmed speed. Turns out it needs to get a bearing to optimal temperature before spinning things into oblivion, as I need it to do. This device is similar... I've used the hotplate portion of it only a couple times, and only up to 160C for about an hour. No problems there. Would have been nice if they had included the stand for the probe, but I've got stands galore so not really a loss; but if you're buying one of these you're either a veteran in the lab or you're just starting and on a tight budget...so it's fair to say a non-trivial portion of your purchasing demographic could use the stand to make sure that set temperature is accurate. The stirring takes some getting used to. It starts off with a fairly aggressive torque curve at first and tapers off pretty quickly. That's not unusual for magnetic stirrers, but this one is a little more gradual than I'm accustomed to. That said, with a little prep and a small tweak to work flow, I've stirred content which cools to the consistency of heavy whipping cream at 800 RPM for hours at a time while the precipitate cooled. It takes a little bit to get there, but I appreciate that it does get there and it holds its rotational speed quite well.

The media could not be loaded. I originally bought one of the cheap $50 ones and it just did not work very good so I broke down and got this and absolutely love the way it works it's like night and day on how well it works compared to the last one. I've already used it a few times had no issue with it whatsoever and works great with my system I have set up for extractions from black pepper. Update 11-20-2022 I wanted to give a fast update on this, I have used this lab hot plate maybe 50 more times and I have had zero issues with it. I use it to do a lot of hot extractions for things like Piperine to mix with Turmeric along with other stuff like essential oils and it has failed me yet and has been more then worth the money...

The media could not be loaded. Updated Review: After speaking with 4E's Scientific, I've decided to adjust my review. This unit, being the smaller hot plate, is fine for boiling water in smaller (1-L) beakers and the mixer works pretty well! I've ordered the upgraded 7inch unit to see if it will boil water for 2+L. I'll review the 7 inch once I have an opportunity to fully test it. Previous Review: I have it set to 100C, but it won't go above 84C. Without boiling, I can't use it for what I need it for. I tried covering it, stopping the stirrer, using the stirrer... Nothing worked. I also made sure that the little limiter knob was cranked all the way up. Additionally, when stirring the rod has a tendency to pop out of the middle and get stuck on the side. I wouldn't recommend this unit at the price.

I got this for use with printed circuit board etchant solutions. Desirable features for this application include the fact that there is no exposed metal on top (other than the fitting for the optional vertical temperature probe) - if acid is accidentally splashed on the center heating surface or on the controls, it will not react; adjustable temperature and rotational speed, and the safety temperature cutoff. For my purposes, I wanted to limit it to a top temperature of 45 degrees C and the safety temperature cutout starts at 50 degrees C so hotter than I desired but not a showstopper.

Great high-quality product The device itself was received quickly and looks pretty good with a protected package. Solidly built and has an excellent ceramic coating on the surface. Also, it comes with a temperature probe which feedback the real temperature of sample to the magnetic stirrer, so the temperature control can be more accurate and heat up quicker. Controls for temperature setting and stirring speed are simple and easy. Worth the money I paid.
