I got this for final curing of high temperature composites for materials engineering grad school so I could just do it in my garage instead of going in to the lab. Ran it up to 450 C and then 500 C with no problems except the finish on the plate oxidizing and chipping off, but that's just cosmetic and probably due to me putting preceramic resins directly on it, so take that with a grain of salt. The heating rate can get really anemic with ventilation if your part is too big and it will have a little trouble maintaining high temperature without something to help insulate it. Solved that with using a few plies of silica welding mat for insulation. Alumina crucibles worked perfect for this too. With insulation, temperature control was rock steady. The temperature probe is accurate (read within 1 to 2 C of all my K type thermocouples). Mixer works great, been using it for dispersing additives in high viscosity resin. Excellent value for the money, well worth it considering how much cheaper it is than the next alternative and that it runs off 120v without too much current draw.

For the price, the stirring is a bit weak and the heat output is a bit disappointing, but its temperature control is nothing to complain about. If you need a lot of heat or very strong stirring look elsewhere but if you just need to hold something a certain temperature and swirl it a bit this should be perfect. Apparently the stirring goes up to 1500 rpm but I wouldn't know anything about that because all my stir bars lose their minds above 700. Update: About a week after posting this review I was personally contacted by the seller, saying they've asked their engineers to look into improving things and to offer me a full refund or replacement. I've gone with the refund and must say, very impressive customer service. This review was originally 3/5 stars but now that I know the company is solid I will definitely be getting the 7" hot plate/stirrer model as I just wasn't quite able to push this one far enough to meet my needs. To sum up, the heat and stirring are a tab underpowered, but the temperature regulation functions great and I've discovered the customer service is top tier.

Style: Magntic Stirrer with Stand
[UPDATE AT BOTTOM] Considering the price of this unit, the heating is a bit lackluster. Verifying the temperature of the ceramic surface with an infrared thermometer consistently shows up to ~20 C above the set temperature when measuring in the center. The temperature also seems to drop off fairly quickly as you move towards the edges. I have also had some issues with this unit throwing stir bars as they start to approach 1000 rpm, which is obviously less than ideal. I use the same bars with other hot plates and never seem to have issues. It’s a shame because the unit is otherwise fairly well built in terms of materials and finish. UPDATE: The seller has reached out and offered to make things right with my order. This kind of excellent customer service will have me give them another chance moving forward.

This is an amazing lab device. It is incredibly well built, heats up very quickly and the magnetic motor function works flawlessly. Using the device is a tad steep with some minor things to be aware of in regards to its heating function and stirring. Some are common sense and for anyone using any lab equipment you should test the devices and record your finding prior to actual use. One particular feature is that the device will start the magnetic stirring faster by flashing the RPM and slowing down to the set RPM to overcome the sample inertia. The thicker the sample the longer this may take and the reverse is true too. However, the seller is wonderful enough to message you after ordering so that you are aware of these things and offer their support. Great on them and more than I could ask for in customer service! The ceramic plate gets hot quickly and holds temperature very well. The added PT1000 temperature probe works well with a stand and the hot plate automatically switches from the internal sensor to the PT1000 to regulate the sample's temperature directly as expected. It has a port for a proprietary stand that you can purchase in a bundle or separately which I did not get. Instead I am using my own stand that I had already. If you do not have a stand, I would recommend theirs since it is positioned well and would take up less lab space. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope the device last long.

I have no complaints about this device, i've used it many times now for a variety of projects and it has performed beautifully.. one thing that is not listed in the listing and I was concerned about was if it came with the screw in bar and clamp for either holding the external temp probe or glassware, it does and that made me very happy. it also seems to have a type-B usb port on the back next to the external temp probe port that has no documentation concerning it, I don't know if this is for getting readings or for firmware updates or what, but I am interested in finding out. the Mag Stirrer isn't super strong, but I didn't expect it to be for this price point and does the job well enough for the jobs I need it for.. just do not expect it to work with a much higher viscosity than perhaps diluted oil maybe (I haven't fully tested it's capabilities on this front..) I am happy with my purchase.
