I installed this as a replacement to a previous unit that has a vertical duct. Lessons Learned: 1- The stencil should not be separated (wall and ceiling stencil). Your measurements will be short if you separate the two and then stencil onto the wall and cabinet. 2- If you have a rigid vertical duct you need a coupling or the ability to crimp the existing vertical stack to get it to fit into the boot on the hood. 3- This unit comes with a 3 prong plug, so if you don't already have the electrical for that you will need to install an outlet inside the cabinet above the unit to provide power to it. 4-The light provided by this unit is lower than I would really like. 5- Use 2 cabinet jacks or car jacks to lift the unit into place, it weighs 65 pounds and is awkward to stretch to keep the unit lifted during installation. You will need to place plywood on your stove, then as many large flat objects as you need followed, followed by the jack stand(s), ply wood, and then the unit. Then you lift the unit into place and can get it hooked onto the rear wall brackets, and secured the 3 points at the top of the unit. You need to budget 1-2 days for installation if this is the first time. ... show more

I make lots of smoke while cooking. This hood removes the vast majority of smoke in the high power mode, without making too much noise. This fits our need! Another part I really like about this product is two-way venting: either horizontal or vertical. The old microwave oven already leaves a horizontal vent on the wall. While not exactly fits with this hood vent, the present of the horizontal vent coming with the hood definitely saved lots of labor and changes to the wall. Overall, we are happy about this product. First impression of this product is that the product is very powerful with its suction ability. I tested it when I was cooking my steak which tends to generate a lot of smoke. This product did powerfully suck all the smoke away. Second point I want to mention is how quiet it is when operating. My previous one just made so much noise that I can't hear anything when I turned it on. But this Fotile vent doesn't make too loud noise at all like my previous vent. This feature is kind important to me because I really don't like too much noise. The third useful feature that I would like to share and I think it is kinda important to me is that its comparably easier to clean because its made of stainless steel. I use paper tower and some cleaner to clean the vent after I use it, it is very easy and simple to clean. The media could not be loaded. Replaced a GE Profile over-the-range microwave/hood combo with this unit after the GE repeatedly failed and became choked with grease. It never really had great suction. Decided we needed the combo of a better hood and a small countertop microwave in our small kitchen. This new Fotile hood does the job. Build quality is excellent and the installation manual was adequate. The only negative - the printing was rotated on the cardboard template (IE not square- off by a 1/4 inch one end of the template to the other), though the all important mounting holes were in the right place. Took a bit of unnecessary hassle to realize this and install the unit. Once installed, it works like a charm. Very, very quiet and powerful and perhaps better that a much larger Vent-a-Hood we had in a previous kitchen. One issue with my installation - it’s clear you need a large diameter duct to get the best performance. I stepped our’s down to 4 inches from the 7 inch outlet on the hood, and that created a lot of noise. Still, it’s way better than what we had before. 5 stars overall, though they need to fix that template. ... show more

Installed for for my stove. I had to special order a 7 inch roof top vent from another company. Do not downsize your exhaust pipe system. The range hood is very heavy . I reinforced the cabinet above it just to be safe. You will need 2 people for the install. The unit is a high volume , low velocity system. Which is why it has a 7 inch discharge. I want to be reasonable to write the review not because I'm having trouble deal with their warranty. Overall the machine is ok, the suction power is good enough and the stainless steel is easy to maintain. However, heads up if you are planning to use it for at least a couple of years. The I Bought this machine couple months ago, and now is starting to making this wired sounds on one side of the fans. I sent them an email and got feedback fairly quickly. They sent the part and technician to my home. Long story short, they cannot fix it unless they installed it. Otherwise it would be claimed as "improper installation". I hired a licensed technician to install the machine because the special condition of my cabinet. Reconsider it if you are planning to hire your own guy or install it by yourself. Otherwise, prepare $200 installation fee and ready the policy throughly. ... show more
