  • Little 5"
Size: 5 Inch
This is the smallest 5" vise I've ever seen. I like little sometimes - not when my Rib Eye arrives at the table, and not when I'm shopping for a bucket of ice cream. A vise on my drill press cart is Okay. Really is small (see photos) - the black vise is my old import 5" - it broke - can be fixed - just doesn't seem as pressing now. What I don't like about this vise is the restricted swivel; it only swivels from midnight to 4 o'clock. The product page does say it has a 120 degree swivel (12 - 4 = same thing). Missed that part at time of order. For the purpose of this review and any other purposes in perpetuity I really don't give a flying frog at the Calaveras County Fair about their 120 degree swivel blurb on the product page. All my other vises swivel 360 degrees. There's no good reason for it not to swivel all the way around – accept it was cheaper to make that way. They're asking 80 bucks for this vise – I seriously doubt material costs are even 10 % of that. If you're gonna make it – make it right. Just my humble opinion – and I am humblest man on the planet. So put that in yer pipe and smoke it. It is nice little vise though – accept for the 120 degree restriction. So, --- 3 Stars Thanks for Reading – Have an Incredible Life ... show more

  • Good light duty vise!
Size: 5 Inch
I really expected this to be a low-quality vise like found at inexpensive import stores, but I found this to be finished nicely in comparison. Design wise, it is very similar to those models with just a spring-loaded backlash takeup held in by a roll pin. However, the rest of the design is fairly nice. It has a small, near useless anvil on the back, but the fully enclosed nut/bolt with 3 machined surfaces mean that the dynamic jaw that has very little play. The handle is pretty stiff to turn unfortunately (not the 'light finger operation' you expect out of a nicer vise), but does the job, and the jaws line back up consistently. The swivel base seems like it will be the weak spot of this one, the base isn't machined perfectly flat, so it tends to bind in spots as you rotate if the handles aren't loose enough. Additionally, the handles are just carriage bolts with a 1 piece nut on top. I suspect if you were to manhandle this vise a bit, that the carriage bolts would break first. All things considered, this is a solid 'light duty' shop vise. The casting is a rough texture and just spray painted, but operationally, it works exactly as needed. ... show more

  • much bigger than anticipated
Size: 5 Inch
this vice takes up some prime real estate I won't lie almost too much for my taste but the build seems quite solid for what it is. I am not sure if I'm a fan of only having three anchor points I like to over-tighten everything and don't mind an extra mounting point and having three keeps it from a full 360 rotation also not a fan, but like I said the build quality is there and I will keep this one in use until I come across another smaller 5in with four mounting points that is way smaller I know they are out there I have seen such unicorns I know I have. ... show more

  • Every garage needs a vise.
Size: 5 Inch
This is a heavy duty vice and is exactly what I needed for my work bench in my garage. I looked through the specs and couldn't find the carbon content on the ductile iron, my guess is that it would be fairly high based off the feel and black (carbon) marks it left on my hands while unboxing and mounting. This will make it more brittle and not great to weld to. However, if you just want something for your household projects I can recommend this. ... show more

  • I think it’s going to be good
Size: 5 Inch
Cutting to the chase here, I think you’re going to get pretty much what you pay for here … a decent quality light to mid duty vice. So far, nothing is jumping out screaming “hidden gem,” but nor am I having any problems with its performance.

  • good product made solid
Size: 5 Inch
I like this vise it is nice and solid it is made of solid cast iron, of course it's made in China but most vises that are reasonably priced are made in China. I like the fact it opens to a full 5" with in the jaws and can still clamp the object. I have shown the bottom with a swivel base and the mounting holes it will rotate about 90 degrees and it has three holes to mount them to a bench or work desk. The vise comes with mounting screws that looks to be about 2" in length. I will personally use grade 8 bolts all the way thru the work bench for extra strength. The anvil space on the back of the vise is about 2" square and is not painted. I believe the jaws are screwed into the face so they can be replaced if necessary. All in all this is a decent vise for the $ and yes I would purchase it again, it's at least as good as the ones in a big box store or harbor freight plus it comes straight to your house that's a bonus in itself. The only advise I could offer is if you work in a metal shop or a fabrication business forget this, it's not that heavy duty but, for a D.I.Y. shop or home garage yeah this is worth it! I like it a lot and will certainly use it often. ... show more

  • Well made and totally capable
Size: 4 Inch
The surfaces are machined well and edges are all clean and deburred. Vise teeth are a little sharp, but well aligned and rugged. The coating appears solid and well baked with no signs of flaking. Overall, very happy with it, but haven't used it too much yet. Rest assured, I'll update this review if any issues arise. ... show more

  • Strong and heavy
Size: 5 Inch
The vise is wonderful—strong, heavy, and easy to expand and contract. Its ability to pivot the angle after mounting is a great feature that adds to its usefulness. I do have some concerns about rusting on the non-powder-coated surfaces, but only time will tell. Overall, this is a great addition to my workshop. ... show more
