  • Incorrect Fitment, Requires additional work
The original nut has a slight taper on either side to clear the walls of the slot for the lead screw and nut. This one does not have that and your nut will collide with the wall of the casting. As other comments have mentioned you will also need to order a tap to open the threads up.

  • The thread fit perfectly
The media could not be loaded. Worked very well for me the thread fit without any backlash, I just had to polished the 11/16" diameter with sand paper on the lathe using 1/4 x 28 set screws it is expected when installing repairing now this part made my lathe very happy

  • Threads are too tight SB 9a
South Bend 9A | Catelog #: 83447N If you buy this, you will need a 7/16-10 Left Hand Acme tap to chase the hole larger ($34). You're better off buying a better quality one. Lesson learned but at least now ive got a tap to make my own in the future. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0189Y5A9O?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 ... show more

  • May be a little out of spec
The thread fits the lead screw very tight which will solve the backlash problem but the round post is just barely too big the fit into its mounting hole.

  • Too tight on the threads
Would not thread down cross screw. I believe this is due to the peak depth of the threads. Currently I’m rebuilding the lathe so not able to machine it out. If I could I would have put the nut in a 4 jaw chuck and machined the thread diameter out slightly. I believe this would make it work properly.

  • used on my south bend 9C
You have to tap threads 7/16 LH acme But the rest is made to spec. On mine I had to modify a little because of my casting interference
